Iohan Gueorguiev was one of the most amazing humans I have ever met. Sadly he left the earth much sooner than any of us would have guessed based off his ability to spread joy to everyone he met and his constant thirst for adventure. I wanted to make a video remembering him and some of my favorite moments both from our time we spent together and from his films.
If you have not seen his videos yet, you should check out his channel at / iohangueorguiev
If you would like to share your video with him please leave it in the comments below and I will add yours to the list. Any friend of Iohan is a friend of mine.
Tributes from other friends of Iohan:
Oscar Valderrama: • Tributo a Iohan Gueorg...

Still grieving hard can't find the words and comprehending it all. We spoke on WhatsApp. I wish so much now the plan came true and I could have said hi on the road he gave so much advice and I've saved way more than he suggested but then covid making it impossible to leave I just want to eventually start my trip with triple the savings and do everything I can to repay iohan there's so much I still wish I could ask especially for clothing choice etc but I can't but I just want to help make him proud in the skies like he made us and I want him to know we're all proud of him. I've completed many other tours but nothing is more important to me than a round the world enough to have landed my first paid job after 10 years of applying because uk doesn't make it easy to live a life. There's a better world out there next June

Makes it harder that not only iohan passed but my bike shop friend Richard Smith died in the 2015 Shoreham Air crash who recommended me my first touring bike id buy for lands end to john o groats My first tour without any training. He sold me my first set of cleats and clothing before I had everything I needed on my first road bike before the touring bike. But before it was bought he moved to Brighton to find work with the association of cycle traders ACT. We'd never meet again but we spoke. He saw my progress for about a year..the week after I broke my rear wheel trying to ride round England I found out the bad news he was gone. I felt I had to finish what I stated the following year and succeeded.. its a shame Richard like all 11 victims of Shoreham air disaster have no justice but the memorial arch is enough if its all he can get. I can't forgive the pilot for showing off and breaking so many rules before it happened seeing how it hurts his family as much and more than me. Especially his brother. I wish he had the audacity to remember just one person's name in court but he didn't care about who his plane came down on at all. Just walking free. I know they're isn't nearly enough justice in the world but there is a calm and its nature animals and travel and cycling. If we can't have everything in this world give us our bike and the use of our legs. I'm partly losing my ability to stand so long on my feet but I don't ever want to stop cycling. I don't know what my future is without my feet.

Iohan was truly a remarkable person and the world that knew of him has lost someone that can't be replaced. I'm still reeling from the news of his passing. Iohan was my inspiration to start bikepacking at age 69 (I turn 75 in a few days). En unos meses, con mis 61 años, comenzaré mi viaje.. En honor a Iohan..de ésas personas irrepetibles!!! Sencillo, humilde, transparente, gigante! A lot of us feel that way. A great mutual friend of ours talked with him just a couple days prior to his passing and he did not let on to the extremes of his sleep issues and depression. It is hard to help those who do not ask for it. Even when I have offered to send him stuff for free he always refused and insisted on paying. He was very humble and giving which is a beautiful trait but unfortunate when it comes to personal health. He was such a great person and will always be missed.

All of my thoughts. Right there. I am in no way ashamed to admit I bawled for half an hour or so. Never met him. Would have given much to have done so. @@ChrisMurrayEWC That is so true. When I found his videos a few years ago, I didn't care to watch any other adventure videos. Iohans were so fulfilling. He did make me feel like I was right there with him. His artistry, the music, his beautiful voice, his beautiful presence. How he put it altogether for us. Well, I didn't find out about his death until a couple weeks ago. I thought, no, no, no, and then later got kind of mad at him. I am no stranger to depression, and suicidal thoughts. I am like so many others - wishing I could have somehow helped, been an angel on his shoulder telling him to hang in there, talk to someone. I know the stubborn feeling, the depths of not wanting to feel you are so heavy, and it will burden someone too much. I didn't break down until the other night while watching the memorial his friends made in BC. Like others - I have never cried before over someone who I never met. Bless his soul.

Rest In Peace Iohan! My hero, my inspiration to keep riding my bike. My motivation to get out there and look for new roads, new trails, be in touch with mother nature and free my mind of the demons that some od us carry inside. His genuine and infectious smile and demeanor made us feel like we knew him personally, made us feel like we had a true friend in him, especially when he replied to our comments and questions and he would record and air his responses. He showed us the world through his amazing video adventures. His passing hits hard, especially knowing how young he was and how much he had already experienced. Unfortunately, because (at least partially, from what has transpired) Covid played a major part in his not being to get out and ride agar to continue his travels as before. Thank you Chris for posting this memorial video. I cried when I heard the news of Iohan's death. He was an inspiration, not only to the bike packing community, but in his approach to life and his kindness to others. One particular video and accompanying music has haunted me ever since. It is in Episode 33 of See the World at about 40.45. Apocalytica's Farewell. Farewell and thank you Iohan and may you rest in peace.

I am late to hear this and so sorry. I greatly admired his strong, spirited approach to such arduous journeys, and all imbued with a warm philosophical viewpoint. He was also unrivaled in documenting many places and people of the world. The perspective of a bicyclist traversing the roughest, most remote terrain, and for long periods, is an experience we were able to vicariously live through his videos. His video content should be preserved, similar to a time capsule, in a national archive, such as in Canada or the U.S. (e.g. the Smithsonian)

What a wonderful compilation, Chris. I still can't believe he's gone. It was only a month prior to his passing that he'd replied to my enquiries about the KVR. So giving of his time. I was always hoping that our paths may cross one day. So upbeat, so positive. But we all have our personal struggles, many which have been made worse by Covid. He has certainly inspired me to make some changes to my own future travels.

Thank you. When he was in Colorado Springs with me last, he did seem a bit more on edge because of Covid but I got the feeling that he was just afraid he would not be able to fly back to Canada before lock downs. It may have been deeper concerns I did not pick up on though. He was truly an amazing human and I am sure he would be happy knowing he inspired you and your travels. He was such a caring person.

My brother and I had the fortune to meet him in a bike competition in Mexico while he was planning to visit the Colima's Volcano ( 11:35 ), we invited him to visit Colima our home to know about our culture, food, places, and show him our kindness and the hospitality of the people of this region while he was passing by, then when he had to continue his journey we offer to join him a few kilometers and record some footage with our videography equipment and drone for his KZbin series "I want to see the world", leaving him camping in the middle of nowhere and honestly we were very worried if he will be okay or need help ahead on the road but grateful to meet such a wonderful person and a great human being; we always carry his memory in our minds and our hearts

Chris, this is so remarkable...a tribute to a truly remarkable and creative person, Iohan Gueorguiev. One day I tuned in to see where Iohan was peddling to next and much to my utter amazement I learned of his passing. I still can’t fully believe that there will be no more adventures in his life. I can’t actually remember when I found him on youtube, it’s just that he became part of my life in his remote travels and I lived vicariously through his videos.

It took me long time to process it back then when I learned about Iohan's death. Partly because I too have huge problems with sleeping and I know that those suicidal thoughts just get into your headspace even when you love to live. I'm sure he didn't see another way how to get rest. If he did, he would have no need to end his life. STW13 Mackenzie River missing hiker tragedy , crossing Bolivain salt-pans, camping by a Candian transmitter in a whiteout, the whole inhospitable Puna thing, and one that always makes me smile - when he runs out of cows / dogs / horses / guanaco etc. to befriend so has to rsort to saying 'Hi!' to the cacti 😄 Sorely missed.

You are still, you will always be missed, even by strangers like me who never had the chance to know you. Every time I watched and still watch his videos, I always had a sense of awe for the all the nature he has seen, a sense of excitement for the adventure, a sense of joy but also melancholy. I often cried as I watched on my couch and on my computer screen at the office during lunch break. I cried for all that beauty, but also for the realization that a few do what he did, while others just sit and watch on the sidelines. I still hope one day I will be able to have a tiny bit of that kind of freedom. You are one of my Heros for sure. Miss you.
