I lived in the Appalachian Mountains for years. No song captures the yearning for the primitive forests and winding rivers as well as this song does. Much of the Appalachians are protected as National Forests and Parks. It was the wilderness before the huge migrations across the Mississippi River. It reminds me that we still have territories and states in the U. S. that are unsettled and beautiful. This song is like a prayer to keep these wilderness areas pristine.

Nobody knows who wrote this music. The lyrics appear to have varied from decade to decade. It is thought this song may have originated with the _courier de bois_ who ventured out of New France (today's Quebec) and sought out furs and other trade with the tribes throughout the central and northern parts of North America in the late 1700s and early 1800s. A beautiful song to be sure! 💘😉😥

Such a beautiful song, a hymn to a river. A sadness, like death permeates it, yet it remains inspiring and so, so beautiful.

Can someone tell me the name of the Welsh choir singing this version of Shenandoah
@snowdowncollierywelfaremal5201 Жыл бұрын
It's a mix of many choirs from Wales, and also our choir from Kent, formed in 1929 by Welsh and other miners who migrated here to work in the new coalmines.

I love the song and the choir. But there is something sad too about the song, it kind of reminds me that it would be sung at the death of a President. Don't know why I think that, maybe because it it around the anniversary of President Kennedy's assassination.
