Literal Translation: The old land of my fathers is dear to me, Land of bards and singers, famous men of renown; Her brave warriors, very splendid patriots, For freedom shed their blood. Country, Country, I am faithful to my Country. While the sea [is] a wall to the pure, most loved land, O may the old language [sc. Welsh] endure. Old mountainous Wales, paradise of the bard, Every valley, every cliff, to my look is beautiful. Through patriotic feeling, so charming is the murmur Of her brooks, rivers, to me. If the enemy oppresses my land under his foot, The old language of the Welsh is as alive as ever. The muse is not hindered by the hideous hand of treason, Nor [is] the melodious harp of my country.

The visuals here are just marvellous. So too the mellow hypnotising guitar (first 30sec) which blends perfectly with the images presented. Then follows the stirring full-on sound of the Band of the Welsh Guards. The stage is set... Let's sing our hearts out for Wales! And sing they do, with unrestrained passion. For those who may think the song moves along a little too briskly, consider.... Is there a conductor anywhere who can hold to tempo a massed 'choir' of 5 000 men and women all bursting with unbridled emotion? And anyway, an occasion such as this might be one time when the strictest of conductors would be OK with sentiment prevailing over perfection. If you're here on KZbin looking for unfettered Welsh pride and love of homeland look no further.

Impressive number of choirs, and HUGE! Listening to and viewing this I find that either through the recording of this or something more fundamental, when such large choirs gather it sounds all 'smushed' together. The listener (me) cannot distinguish between tenor, baritone or bass sections as one would when listening to smaller choirs. Instead, the 'being-bowled-over' effect is through the sheer volume of so many voices singing in one place. What I am saying is that for me numbers are not as important as the quality of singing that I can hear much more clearly whilst listening to a smaller choir I will never forget the experience of hearing a Welsh Men's Choir in a small church in Ottawa. The singers walked out on stage and most of them had no hair or white hair. Seeing them, I figuratively rolled my eyes and wondered why I had paid for a ticket. The instant that they started singing I got tears in my eyes from the sheer beauty. Wow! I had hugely underestimated them. It was a memorable performance -- wish I could remember the name of the choir. They blew me away!

The Welsh choirs are indeed beautiful. However if you love mass singing as I do, have a listen on KZbin to the Indian Classic mass choirs old traditional hymns, sometimes without musical accompaniment. Very inspiring.

Go to any Welsh International rugby match in Wales and the rendition you here will be better than this. Sung by Welsh people with tones and nuances and not just a loud noise and you will feel that it is coming from every Welsh heart.

That has to be one of the best anthems ever. I have to give Flower of Scotland first place and that is next. Goosebumps 🏴🏴
