Ion 1950's Futuristic Flying Wing - Pt6: Engine Fuel Consumption Test - By O.F.W. (Peter) Fisher

The Ion Mk 20 is a great looking flying wing from 1957, designed by O.F.W. Fisher and English designer and owner of Performance Kits. He was often known as Peter Fisher. The Ion has a 33" wingspan and was originally a free flight model powered by a Frog 80 diesel engine, however in this build it will be converted to 2 channel RC. The original design had elevons, used to give some reflex to the wing and they could be used to adjust the trim. In this build series these elevons will be servor controlled.

I remember that PAWs, like many other diesels, needed some comp screw tweaking when they were both new and cold. Once run in, though, they would start and run without any adjustment needed. Good engines, those PAWs.

I like that PAW .55, unfortunately the two guys that imported them here to the states are no longer doing it. Eric passed away and Ed is probably retired by now, his web site was a bit messed up last I looked. I guess the AE .5 I have would have to do.

I have done a lot of videos on building, tools, reading and printing plans, have a look bak through my videos, plenty ther to help. Good luck, its a really rewarding thing building from plans

PAWs were great. However for the Ion it would be electric for me. Cleaner and critically you can throttle it. Probably fly for 20 mins on electric with some Lion cells....Plus no engine cutting out...I get the diesel nostalgia, but it's wrong for this model IMO....🤔😏🇬🇧
