Ionia State Rec Area, Michigan - Campground Review

In this video, we will review Ionia State Recreation Area in southern lower Michigan about halfway between Grand Rapids and Lansing along the I-96 corridor. With approximately 4,500 acres, the rec area has opportunities for various water sports, equestrian trail riding, hiking, and biking. There are also rustic, modern, and equestrian campgrounds available, as well as cabins and cross-country skiing trails in winter. They even have Dole Whip at their beach concession store which is one of the few places I’ve seen it outside of Disney properties or in Hawaii.

Just be aware of the bugs issues if you visit in July. It can get pretty nasty.

Glad to hear it! Remember Michigan state parks booking window is six months, so now is the time to begin planning. I like Ludington State Park best for hiking and water sports. Petoskey is also a favorite. All the best!
