It is still a work in progress but the IOTA team and IOTA Foundation have the most thorough and creative vision of the future out of any crypto project. If you want to protect yourself from under-employment due to the rise of automation, invest in IOTA.

Terry Shane does not seem to be aware of Lightning, a second layer protocol of Bitcoin. It will do what IOTA is supposed to provide, but with the security of Bitcoin's blochain and Proof of Work. The future will show how secure IOTA really is. I think it's interesting, I am invested, but I would not trust IOTA yet, whereas I trust Bitcoin.

The limitations of the Lightning Network have been thoroughly discussed. Even some of the main devs recognize that there are MASSIVE hindrances to LN scalability, especially with transaction pathing. We just need to accept the fact that blockchain, while safe, is simply not scalable and any solution that arises is nothing more than a bandaid in what is a fundamental design flaw. ETH sharding might help solve of the issues but it's not yet here and even Vitalik himself admitted that implementation will not be straightforward. The use of DAGs is an absolute must for IoT and IOTA is years away from its nearest competitor.
