Just to clear this up but you did get something wrong here: regarding Brian Ferentz contract the 25pts per game is an incentive, he will not lose his job if the number is not met.

As an Iowa fan, I can just say the reason I have been so vocal personally is because of our offense had just been a tinge better in any season the last 3-5 years, we'd be near undefeated and champs of the conference at least one of those years. It is so sad to see grade A defensive players not get a chance to try for championships because of how abysmal the offense has been. It's not fair to the defense and special teams (the players or the coaching staff), it's not fair to the offensive players who have potential but can't realize it, and it's not fair to the fans and students who have been aching from being good but not good enough. I truly believe that this team has a chance to be as good as our 2017 team that demolished Ohio State but fumbled the bag when we really shouldn't have. If our defense is 75% of what it was last year, we're guaranteed to go back to the Big Ten Championship due to our offensive improvements. 2 experienced and physical tight ends A new quarterback who has good leadership and adequate passing A backup QB who is itching to prove he should be on the field Agile and quick wide outs An improved offensive line Improved running back room With all that, we have a lot going for us. Now we just need to not call bubble screens on a 3rd and 10 and we might have a chance :)

Craig, you nailed it, the Iowa offense just needs to be adequate & efficient. The problem has been a combination of poor offensive line play & poor QB play by Spencer Petras. Every game the last 2 yrs Iowa would get in a position where they needed the QB to make a play & like clock work, Spencer would over throw his receiver & kill scoring drivers repeatedly. With improved offensive line play & a good running game & improved QB play they will be able to sustain drives with 1st downs & be able finish scoring drives. I think that improvement on offense will also help the defense to maintain & increase the level of play on the defensive side of the ball.The health at the QB position will be a key piece of the puzzle for the Hawks as both Cade McNamara & Joe Labas are upgrades over last year's starter Spencer Petras. Looking forward to the season & anxious to see the improvements particularly on the offensive side of the ball. 👍👍GO HAWKS Danny W

think what Iowa's Ds numbers would be if the O was able to stay on the field longer than 3 plays, especially with how many times they were able to take the ball away with turnovers or cause 3 and outs themselves.

You will lose faith with Bielema when he can’t win the bigger games. They won’t beat Iowa or Wisconsin and could struggle with others in the West. Enjoy last years “success”.

I agree Bielema will win the west this year at Illinois he is a very good coach and learned a lot during his time at Arkansas. Took us to 3 straight bowls against schedules that were rated top 5 in nation in difficulty. Rooting for Bielema and the illini. He learned a lot. He's not running his mouth as much and well, coaches move forward with their maturity level.

Iowa is always scary. Always a threat to beat anyone. But as a PSU fan, I can only hope we can get revenge for 2021. All those season ending "fake injuries" cost us the game. Hopefully we can absolutely dominate. And with any luck, Iowa will have some "fake" injuries this year.

My understanding is that the Iowa team has the 25 points threshold. The offense doesn't have to average 25 points.

Iowa is not scoing 25 points per game. That's unrealistic especially when last year the offense normally scored around 10 points and let the defense do the rest.

Well most seasons, even with BF at the helm, they've had over that. The offense should be improved this year, they've got more weapons, two potential NFL tight ends, a running back that broke the Iowa freshman rushing record last season coming back for his sophomore year, some decent options at WR, and an improved O-line even though RT is still a concern atm. The offense being as bad as it was last year was an anomaly, a painful one to watch but not common. Granted Iowa's offense is rarely a powerhouse because of the way they play the game, they've not led the Big Ten in offense since the 2002 season with Brad Banks and company. Also, it's the team that has to score 25 points per game, not the offense in terms of Brians's contract.

Problem for Iowa is this; they've had an incredibly path to the Big Ten title, and thus the playoff, for a decade and haven't taken advantage of it. What makes anyone believe they're more likely to have success going forward with no divisions and better teams coming to the Big Ten, then they've had in the past decade? It's only getting more difficult; much more difficult. If they couldn't do it under Ferentz in the weakest Power 5 division, why should anyone believe Ferentz can get it done playing Michigan, Ohio State, Penn State, USC and Oregon much more frequently? Under Ferentz in the new Big Ten they're a perpetual 7-5 team.

11:52 That is the exact problem : Michigan always loses its college football playoff game. The selection committee has now placed UM in the same category as Notre Dame and Oklahoma whom they have not invited back. Ohio State is the only team who has won a playoff game. Don't be surprised when the committee picks Ohio State over Michigan for that very same reason.
@gabeswitala2292
@gabeswitala2292 Жыл бұрын
Dude UMs played two playoff games. The first one they looked like they didn't belong, the second they were competitive and actually beat themselves. No way the committee is even close to black balling UM in favor of ANY team with a lesser record.

I root for Ohio State but I understand Iowa's frustration. 8 - 5 is somewhat okay but Kirk Ferentz became Iowa's head coach in 1999. Since 1999, Ohio State has gone 2- 5 in national championship games (winning in 2002 and 2014) with 3 different coaches. It is not unfair that Iowa fans are asking the same out of Ferentz.
@hairtrigger8317
@hairtrigger8317 Жыл бұрын
As an Iowa fan of course we want more but comparing Ohio State, a blueblood program, and Iowa, is silly. Kirk has only had 4 seasons under .500 in 24 seasons of being the head coach, there are not many programs that can say the same.
