I'd love to ride an excursion like that. Unfortunately, no more steam trains down here but the Royal Palm still looks pretty awesome ...

I wanted to ride this one but due to other commitments only my son was able to accompany me for the chase

Thanks Drew! I usually do a better job of keeping out of the camera but I had to check for rain on the lens!

How did 2 Chinese steam engines end up in Iowa
@CoalChrome5 жыл бұрын
It's not (relatively speaking) that hard to find a QJ in good condition to purchase in china is it? I mean they made them from the 80s to the early 2000s and have used them within the last 10 years. sooo.... if a railroad like the CSX buys a steamer (or NS), that's where they should look first, they're also some fast son of a guns.

China was actually building them way before the 1980's. I recall reading an Live Steam article on the steam locomotives being built and used in China, this was back in the mid 1970's. Ken

@@4GSR hmm, okay I was off, but I don know for sure they were using them up until 2010

@@CoalChrome That, I don't know. I never saw any in my travels over in China in 2005-2010. Just the modern "bullet" type of trains that I saw.

Probably relatively easy to get ahold of one. The Knox and Kane ordered their Chinese steam engine brand new from the factory in the 1980's. It now runs on the Essex Steam Train in Connecticut

@@ScottTaipaleRail because of the earthquake that destroyed the bridge which was turned into a bike path that ends where it collapsed. It would be so cool if that route wqas turned back into a railline
