In August of 2021, the Iowa Interstate Railroad (IAIS) ran excursions in conjunction with the Oxford and Wilton fire departments in Iowa, and I was there to cover as much of the action as possible.
The IAIS QJ 6988 was kept in South Amana, IA, overnight throughout the weekend when it wasn't pulling excursions, and therefore the crew deadheaded the train to each starting point for excursions each morning. In this video, you will see the steamer at three different locations on each deadhead move, and plenty of spots during the excursions. It was a full weekend of Chinese steam in Iowa, and I filmed eight of the nine total excursions- primarily the outbound runs, but some of the return trips, as well.
