As a State fan, I get to take my sigh of relief but mad props to UNI on this game. They came into Ames with a game plan and executed the hell out of it and came up just short. If they play hard like that every game I have no doubt they can win the FCS this year

lmao UNI has nowhere near hte talent of half the Big 12 Defenses. Baylor, Texas, and Iowa State are levels above UNI on defense. Hell, i cant think of 1 team other than kansas that has a worse defense

Cyclones always start rusty. They get hot after a few weeks. But I'm glad they get a bye week to figure out who the alpha running back and deep threat receiver are. Without those two short passes are about the only way they'll move the ball. And as good as Jones is he can't do it alone. Opponents will figure him out. The defense is as advertised. 33 rushing yards and no offensive TD's until overtime. UNI has a better defense than I thought. Their QB also is pretty darn good. Kicker too. A win is a win. But I'm glad there's a week off

People are worried about the conservative play calling but Iowa state treated this like a preseason game not much was revealed and that showed through who played d line for parts of the game and the fact that purdy only ran the ball once when the game was on the line, clearly Iowa state was trying to not show too much to Iowa the team will be very different game 2
