The 13 inch M1 Pro's speaker experience is astonishing for me--surprisingly superior to any iPad I've experienced previously. This audio comes to the fore when simply watching content while reclining with the big Pro on my chest... the stereo experience is there, but on top there seems to be something quite surprising and almost 'spatial' about the big M1 Pro's audio. Its so true with the pricing. I was interested in buying an ipad earlier this year and the most affordable one that could cater my needs was the 2020 ipad air with A14. But it had only 64 gb storage. So I had to pay an extra amount for the 256 gb one which is the only other option. But with a very slightly more amount I could get an ipad pro with M1 chip and 128 gb storage. I was very convinced for that product but then I realised that in no time I had gone way too over my budget so I decided to wait for the new ipad air launch so that the old one gets cheaper. If the products are cheap like a few dollars then it is true because it does not cost much to feel "average" but when you are talking about a few hundreds and more it is completely wrong. @ronaldbaraga92642 жыл бұрын
Good points with the price ladder! However, I have some disagreements. The thing is, for $50 more (total $799) you get an iPad Pro with 128 gb storage but for $750, you get an iPad Air with the same M1 with twice the storage (256 gb). That’s the actual comparison. If you’re looking to get the air but want more storage, you can get the 256 gb version for less than the 128 gb pro. That’s still a better deal. The pros that have up to a terabyte of storage are a lot more expensive than the air and it’s not a comparison. If you need that much storage, you wouldn’t be considering an air in the first place. And the 13 inch pro is way more expensive as well. Again, if you want a 13 in iPad, then you wouldn’t be considering the air. Still, I think it’s great that you bring this up and highlight this. As stated in another post, few reviewers talk about pricing structures and the company compelling (or tempting) you to upgrade. Thanks for your reviews!

Nice video, not sure if you mentioned pro has 128gb compared to 256gb on the air in that price range you highlighted, which is a factor that can sway people to the air - not having to worry at all about memory, and while it's a useful comparison, if people are coming from a base ipad and have never used a pro, then pro comparisons don't mean much. I've never had pro motion and even knowing about it doesn't want to make me go for a pro over an air. For some people the air is a logical upgrade from a base model. Touch ID better than face for me, speakers are better on the pro obviously, but I also use headphones a lot and bluetooth speakers. What it comes down to for me, is having 256gb of storage, rather than half that on the pro with a better screen and pro motion (which I have never used before anyway). The price ladder concept is amazing. Although putting M1 in iPad Air contradicts the ladder theory. However, iPad Air is now more attractive to the low-budget user who initially planned to buy the iPad. Since the iPad delivery date is usually more than a month while the Air is just a week or so. My point is availability is another critical factor in the purchase decision.
@Flaxify2 жыл бұрын
im debating on getting the air, instead of the Ipad the price difference is there, but USB-C Gen 2 pen M1 ridiculously overkill still overall better display tech. thats kinda it, i would mostly use it for Schoolwork and streaming media so i would not really need the space. so im fine with their default configurations. i was never so tempted to go UP the ladder then before. still doesnt beat the IPad price to performance, but i really dont think that apple is trying to sell you a dowgrade for a pro user. see as Marques said, Pro buyer will still most likely go for a pro. but they sure make the middle option viable now. instead of 1 year ago where you either went price to performance or High end.

Thanks for highlighting the pricing strategy that Apple does with their product line. I personally had this very dilemma when I was buying a new iPad. Eventually, I ended up buying the 2022 iPad Air with M1 chip, 64GB storage with 5G. For most people, I guess 64GB wouldn’t be enough, but for me as a hobbyist musician who records and produce music videos solely on my iPad for over a year now, 64GB is more than enough since I transfer all of my materials to an external HDD after finishing a project (music and video project). Having said that, I don’t really have many games on my iPad, rather, I use the iPad as my personal computer for setting up reminders, reading books, creating documents, presentations, and spreadsheets for my day time job, writing journals, taking notes, emails, watching online videos (KZbin, Netflix, etc), for editing photos, social media, etc. Truly, the iPad has evolved from a consumption device, to an actual productivity tool. And with iPadOS 16 coming very soon, the M1 iPad user experience with multi-tasking and full screen support for external display, will make the iPad Air 5 will be enhanced.

I'm surprised at how objective this review was. I personally feel that Apple should have lowered the prices of both the iPad Mini and the iPad Air by $50, and just add the improved selfie camera to the air. Would’ve gone for the iPad Pro 128 gb if I were to switch over to iPad for drawing but I already use a drawing tablet + Clip Studio Paint on my laptop so I decided otherwise. If it weren’t for the extra storage in the iPad Air 256 gb, I would’ve bought the iPad Pro 128 gb.

I really appreciate how you explained this. I'm an artist using a refurbished 2nd generation iPad Pro 12.9in 256GB with the 1st gen Apple pencil. I got that because I thought I was going to use Procreate as my main drawing tool instead of Photoshop CC. After 2 years of using the iPad Pro, that was not the case. I only used it for sketches that I imported into Photoshop & basically used the iPad for everything I didn't feel like using my phone for. So I'm considering the new iPad Air because of that. I figured since I have an iMac, a 22in pen display & a MobileStudio Pro that I primarily use, why shell out all that money for features on another device I'm not going to use every day? I definitely don't mind the "downgrade."

I know this is an old video, but I want to say something about iPad Pro vs Air. And that is notetaking. Both of them support Apple Pencil, but since the Pro has a 120 Hz display, it is so much better for note taking than the Air can be. I have first hand experience with this, since I used to daily a Microsoft Surface Go. Now, Surface vs iPad is a different conversation, but the Surface Pen vs Apple Pencil, I have to give it to the Surface. It is so much nicer in feeling than the hard feeling that the iPad has. But what is much much better on iPad Pro than the Surface is the fact that the screen itself is so much nicer. The iPad has a higher pixel density, which really helps as tiny details on the pencil’s stroke as much better captured. And also the higher refresh rate is insanely better when it comes to the responsiveness of whatever you are writing showing up in the screen. It may sound like a nitpick, but there is a real tangible difference there. So the iPad Air has a lower screen resolution than the Pro, and a lower refresh rate. If you are looking at these devices for note taking with a stylus, I would always go with the high refresh rate, higher pixel density option. If note taking is not even a consideration for you, then go with whichever you want.
@rockrida3172 жыл бұрын
In my experience the higher refresh rate gets more noticable as the display size increases. Like I have a 120hz Samsung and a 120hz iPad Pro and I also recently tried a 120hx 12.9" iPad Pro. On the phone it's not noticeable when you change to 60, the 11" it is but barely, and on the 12.9" it's very

I've been eyeing the iPad Pro to replace my 2014 MBPr since I really don't need a laptop at this point for my use anymore, just want a daily driver type thing that isn't my desktop but bigger than my phone. The M1 Air would be fine if it had enough storage. 64gb is too small, 256gb is really a bit small as well but could make it work. However, a Pro for $50 more is appealing, but then it is only 128gb. Going to 256gb is $899 or 512GB is $1099. Then I am debating on whether to just get the MBA at that point, esp when figuring in keyboard price for the Pro (or iPad Air). So I ended up just figuring I will stick with my current MBPr for now, ha. A 512GB iPad Air at $899 would have been real appealing for me, which maintains the $200 cheaper than a Pro pricing.

Its M1 chip ensures smooth multitasking and handles demanding tasks effortlessly. The Liquid Retina display is vivid and crisp, making content consumption a joy. However, I must mention that the absence of Face ID for unlocking is a bit disappointing, especially in an era where biometric security is becoming the norm. While Touch ID is reliable, Face ID would have been a welcomed addition. Despite this drawback, I still recommend the iPad Air 5th gen to potential buyers who prioritize performance and a great display over facial recognition. I had this impression that the M1 chip Macs perform better with more internal storage (like everything kind of working together more, getting better memory performance w more storage, etc. But I could be completely wrong) I was wondering if getting an ipad with an M1 chip, but with low storage ie 64GB, would reduce performance. Because in my head I would just get an ipad with lowest possible storage, and then use USB flash drives or other ways of offloading files, deleting and redownloading big apps since I tend to play a game or use an app for a while and then not use it for a chunk of time... and be totally fine with that. But if it were to perform less quickly due to having less storage or have some serious issues that would obviously make me want the higher storage or maybe just consider the ipad air 4 over the 5, if that makes sense.

@@madruga2112 The higher 120 Hz means that you can respond twice as fast to your inputs because the screen is putting out double the frames in one second. That’s twice the visual information, not something to sniff at. It also means the screen and thus Procreate responds twice as fast. It could speed up your artwork and your creative process substantially. However, you CAN adapt and handle 60 Hz just fine, many people who grew up with 60 Hz displays have picked up habits and whatnot that allow them to maximize what they can get out of the fewer frames. So those people CAN stick with 60 Hz just fine. They will still get a boost from 120 Hz, but it’s not a deal-breaker for them. That’s my understanding of the matter, good luck either way! Also, someone mentioned that the 1 TB and 2 TB storage options of the iPad Pro increase the RAM to 16 gigs. That means your paintings can be that much more complex before the device starts to struggle. If the price bump is worth that extra headroom in the memory, that might be worth using. Plus, the iPad Pro port supporting Thunderbolt means more flexibility in connecting the device to other devices, I think you can plug a DSLR camera straight into the iPad for reference photos or photo editing, no need for a PC or MAC middleman to facilitate the transfer (I could be wrong on that, please double-check).

I’m one of the people that would have paid for the Pro but instead opted to go with the Air instead. I bought it purely as an entertainment platform for Netflix and light gaming (OSRS). Not interested in heavy gaming. Saw the refresh rate as a bonus for me as I consider battery life as one of the most important aspects of buying. The efficiency of the M1 along with the 60hz refresh meaning an extended battery life is perfect for what I want. I don’t care for the camera, or missing out on Lidar or the two extra speakers or even a lot of storage space since most of my use will be streamed VOD. Saved myself £200

I’m like you. I own an iPad Pro and I won’t downgrade to an Air due to the extras the Pro provides. More storage, 120 Hz, better display, the LiDAR Scanner, the insanely great 4 speakers and also the 5 built in studio quality microphones. All reasons for me to use my current Pro and also the reasons to buy a new Pro eventually. That will probably be when Apple announces the successor to the M1 Pro.

One small thing I've found is that this is the first possible iPad I know to spell the name on the back. My 2020 iPad Pro only says "iPad" on the back-- love this blue more tbh than my grey Pro

The 120hz argument is a little tough for me to accept. Having used both, sometimes I feel the ltpo display argument should only be reserved for more efficient battery performance. The feel of a 60hz isn’t “slow”. It takes the same amount of time to do all the same tasks on both refresh rates. KZbinrs have run this narrative a bit too much that 60hz feels “slower”

I’ve had this for around a month since the 4th of November, and I can tell you, IT IS GREAT! It is an overkill iPad but it leaves a lot of room for the future, as a 32gb user, upgrading to 256gb makes me feel more free!
@fredlada16342 жыл бұрын
I can’t believe you went for a 256 gb instead of putting just a tad more and have an m2 chip plus everything better than the air. The storage is meaningless with idevices, people make choices anyways, of what to keep and what is useful and what’s to throw away. Unless you are a professional then you probably need lots of storage but even then, a professional will buy the best for the money that’s why if you were you would have bought an iPad Pro m1 chip, which at the time of the release was the same price as the pro m2 is marketed at today anyways. For 100$ or less you can also buy an external storage and plug it in your iPad anyways so you definitely chose wrongly. Inbetween the 9th gen and the air the 9th gen is better value because it’s 300$ less than the air for the same storage and has a powerful A13 chip. The only downside to the 9th gen is the design but if people can go beyond that then it’s a smarter choice. The comparison is inbetween the pro m1 and the air and the pro m1 still wins, unfortunately it’s not available anywhere on the market today and therefore the only option left is inbetween the pro m2 and the air. Again, the air loses. Everything « air » with Apple is to be avoided because it’s priced very high but it’s actually weaker in every way.

@@fredlada1634 Looking at a performance 1:1, you are correct. But there are always intangibles. Especially if this person was a professional. Which also holds true for storage, storage is far from meaningless for idevices, as you called them. Consider the fact that we have creative professionals that need to travel and at times won't have access to connections for days. They still need to work. To the same people, not having to carry an external drive is worth a lot. Simplicity. And there is a price difference even if only $150 and some people, especially in finance will also look at it in a cost perspective. Why pay more when this device fulfill all needs of person X? That would be a bad business decision if there is no increased productivity or income coming out of it. Basically, would the added $150 bring in more money tot he business than the cheaper Air would do? It's not always as easy as "performance is better". "iPad 9th gen has more value than Air" I disagree. "The only downside to 9th gen is trhe design" - false. The screen is smaller. Different connector. Only supports 1st gen pen (big difference for artists). Does not support all keyboard variants. Big difference in screen quality, also important to some people. No video decode encode engine. Some examples for you. So please stop flaming people for their choices when there is so much more to it. It's fucking stupid.

im with you on that, just the 60Hz display alone its a deal breaker for me, i have the 2020 11' iPad Pro and i really love the 120 Hz Promotion display, it makes the iPad a lot smoother and faster, when i play with the iPad air it feels so much slower and i can't go back to a 60 Hz display now, so doesnt matter if the new iPad has the M1 chip inside i rather keep my 2020 IPad Pro , which its powerful enough for me.

Excellent video as always!! Personal experience... In 2021, I was going to get a 256GB iPad Air 4 on sale but then the 128GB 11in M1 iPad Pro got discounted to the original price of the 256GB Air and I decided to go ahead and get it... My main deciding factors were the 8GB of RAM in the Pro and the Blue color of the Air. Since the Blue wasn't deep enough and the Pro had 2x the RAM, I bought it. THIS M1 AIR IS LITERALLY WHAT I WANTED TO BEGIN WITH, I WOULD NOT HAVE GOTTEN THIS M1 PRO

This iPad Air missing the 128gb option is a very smart trap, which will lure aa lot of people into 256gb air or pro. You see the Air getting M1, get hyped up due to its performance / price ratio. Then you very quickly climb up to 256gb air or pro because 64gb is too small. Well done Apple 👍🏻

Great review! The new iPad Air definitely caught my attention. Thanks for calling out the storage issue. I would definitely need more than 64GB, so bumping up to 256GB is the only other option with the Air. To get the same storage on the iPad Pro you're going from $750 up to $900. I wonder if I would see $150 in value with the promotion screen and camera? Not sure. I'll have to try them out. Thanks for sharing the spec differences because I feel like I know what to look for in person now.

In addition to better rear cameras and 120hz promotion.......You also get a slightly bigger screen, face id (a pro or con depending on the person)..... Lidar for more accurate measurement, faster auto focus, and 3d mapping, quad speakers, so stereo audio in either orientation, also thunderbolt. (M1 in ipad air doesn't have thunderbolt just 10GB/s USB).....All for an extra $150 for the same 256GB or an Extra $50 for the 128GB version which most people would be okay with..It's just that 64GB is just too small.........So Yes, In my opinion the pro version is worth the extra $50 to $150.......But I would wait for this fall......If the Air has the M1......The Ipad Pro 11 will be getting the beastly M2 chip....and a Mini-led display. The M1 is 5nm launched alongside and based off the A14 Bionic in 2020.....If the m2 is based on the A15 bionic launched in 2021....then it will be more efficient at 5nm+ and it will have 7 to 8% faster Single core performance......15 to 20% faster multicore.....50 to 55% faster GPU, 50% faster LPDDR5 memory bandwidth.......But odds are, the M2 will be 2 generational jumps....and will be based on the upcoming A16 Bionic at 4nm....and will absolutely destroy anything android has to offer.....The 4nm 2022 Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 flagship still barely competes with the 2018 A12X.......but the price of the 11" Ipad might go up though......decisions...decisions.

Well the pro starts at 128 gb which I think is probably plenty for most people, plus it has all the other bells and whistles the air doesn’t have. If you have to have 256 gb it might be a tough choice but if 128 is enough I think it’s an easy choice between the two. I just upgraded from the air 2 this weekend to the pro 11. I went to a micro center to compare the two in person and it was the speakers and the 120hz screen that sold me on the pro. I tend to hold onto my devices for a while so I wanted the most I could get for the price and only having more storage in the air wasn’t enough to get me to pay the same amount of money for it
