iPad Battery Replacement Step-by-Step

This how to describes the process, step-by-step, of opening your Ipad 4 wifi version and removing the digitizer, lcd screen, and motherboard in order to replace an aging battery. If your apple ipad is not holding a charge anymore try replacing the old battery with a new battery. Its much faster and cheaper to do it yourself.

My iPad 4 has a flashing white apple logo, and it won't switch off and it only takes a charge intermittently.

You have to plug everything into the motherboard, but you can power up prior to re-sealing everything yeah. Just be careful not to rip and of the ribbons.

i have a redirection loop on an ipad 4th, i open it and the battery is inflated, however i dont know if replacing the battery will fix my issue, does anyone knows?

inflated battery is extremely dangerous. Likely this is your largest issue, be extremely careful not to puncture this battery it may explode. I would replace it immediately.

I would highly suggest anyone attempting this to be absolutely 100% sure to use a battery terminating shim. It can basically be nothing more than a piece of an old credit card with a little notch cut in it or a thin guitar pick with a notch cut so it will fit around the screw hole on the battery connector and block the pins of the battery from touching the logic board while working. You have to be sure the battery never makes contact with the logic board (or motherboard as he calls it in this vid) while the LCD is unhooked or being reconnected. He does not use one at all during this video and I am really surprised he didn't blow either one or both of the backlight IC, coils or filter. Golden rule is to NEVER remove or attach an LCD screen to a logic board in an iPad if it is still making contact with the battery. Always slide a battery terminator between the logic board and battery connector and leave it there. I use a thin plastic card and then tape it down so it cant be moved, bumped or inadvertently pulled out the entire time the LCD is unhooked. Once everything is reassembled and the LCD flex cable is reattached to the logic board, the final step before screwing the LCD back down is to pull the plastic card out and put back in the battery terminal screw. If you don't use a plastic shim, you have about a 50/50 chance of shorting the backlight coil/filter when reconnecting the LCD. A blown backlight filter or coil will result in the screen not lighting up properly, typically when only 1 blows, only 1/2 of the screen will fully light up. This can usually only be repaired at this point by someone with micro soldering skills and equipment and turns an inexpensive battery replacement or screen repair into a much more expensive project!

Thanks for the great advice! I can say it must be better than 50% chance because I've never done that and have replaced many many iPads and iPhone components. I will certainly start doing that now though! I had never heard of it before.
