In this video (about 30 minutes), I’ll share some iPad apps I use for orchestra sounds.
These sounds include:
Strings
Brass
Woodwinds
Percussion
Choir
While there is still a long way to go to get some of the high quality desktop libraries and articulations on iOS, there are some iOS apps that have good orchestral sounds.
Timestamps of the apps below:
0:00 Intro
0:56 Beathawk by UVI
4:34 DecentSampler by Decent Samples
7:00 iSymphonic by Crudebyte
10:24 PureSynth Platinum by GospelMusicians
16:15 Roli Noise by….Roli
19:32 Sampletank by IK Multimedia
21:22 Beatmaker 3 by Intua
22:53 SECRET STRING SOUND!!!!! 😳 (See pinned comment for more insight into this)
25:40 Honorable mentions
26:00 StaffPad ($$$$$) - PROBABLY THE HIGHEST QUALITY STRINGS YOU WILL GET ON THE iPAD (NOT AUV3 🥺)
Some others (not mentioned in the video):
- GarageBand has some great built-in string sounds and riffs.
- Oriental Strings by Crudebyte
- Heavy Brass by Crudebyte
- Jubal Flute by Embertone
Enjoy!

I've been getting into Hans Zimmer esque score writing, this has been really useful for a variety of instruments that I needed. For now, I'm using Garageband, but what do you recommend for DAWs on the IPad?
@dafingaz
@dafingaz 3 жыл бұрын
Thanks for watching! I've been using Beatmaker 3 mostly. It's great, especially for sampling and hip hop music. I also use Cubasis 2/3 (for me Cubasis 2 is more stable than Cubasis 3). I use Cubasis when I want to create quick melody ideas in a more linear approach. Also...I should do an update video on this. The latest strings I've been using are the Audio Modelling SWAM products. They are a little pricey, but definitely worth it. They are also currently only solo instruments (no ensembles). Hope this helps!

@@dafingaz Thanks man! Appreciate such a quick reply! I'll try out Cubasis, one more thing though. I've been looking for an app that allows you to use portamento on strings and such. Would Cubasis by chance have this?
@dafingaz
@dafingaz 3 жыл бұрын
@@alman2295 You're welcome! Portamento so far has been the downside of most of the strings in iOS from what I could find. If anyone would have anything close to portamento, I would say the SWAM stuff. Cubasis *might have something like that. I haven't used the strings in there recently. I think they might be more on the synth string side though. There's also the really (really) expensive StaffPad that I would think should have portamento. I don't have that app though. LOL....

Does Cubasis3 work with the iSymphonic, or the other app, plug-ins? And can you input notes manually, instead of having to use a midi keyboard? I like a work flow where I don’t have to use a keyboard, but instead can click and drag the notes as I see fit into a horizontal timeline . Also, does iSymphonic have good orchestral percussion options?
@dafingaz
@dafingaz 3 жыл бұрын
Cubasis should work. I believe you can do midi input. Definitely check into that though. There are a few orchestral percussion sounds. I don’t think I’ve purchased that Sound pack, but it is the Boato pack. Check it out and other packs here: crudebyte.com/isymphonic-orchestra/sounds/

When you purchase these sounds, are they only available temporarily or do you get to keep them permanently? Another question, can you use a whole group of these sounds together to create a score for a film?
@dafingaz
@dafingaz 2 ай бұрын
You get to keep them as long as the app exists and there's not random Apple update that messes up anything with the app. :) You can use the sounds together in a DAW (like Cubasis, Logic, etc) on the iPad to create a score. I would suggest having a decent amount of space on your iPad for some of these sounds/libraries. Hope this helps!
