When I was nine or so my dad would always tell me "No toys at the table, pay attention to your family" and I would always get upset because I wanted to play my tablet or Nintendo. I see why he said that and I can't thank him more. I'm glad I can go out to public restaurants with my family and not need a screen in front of me to be entertained. My view is the moment you let a kid have access to an Ipad with unlimited restriction to the internet and let them be exposed to social media, Tick Tock, Twitter, KZbin shorts and all that brainrot, you won't grow up normal. I'm glad I'm seeing my dad's view on this topic.

this might just be australia, but as someone who spends a ton of time around kids of that age - 9 to 13 (occasional school sub), the only time kids really talk about skibidi toilet is ironically. for example, they'd say; that is so skibidi toilet ohio rizz, then laugh. there's the occasional kid with no social skills who hyperfixates, but that's a constant in society.

I think that the fact I was raised by 11 minute to 26 minute cartoon episodes, I was saved. I was forced to watch two hour long movies and play three hour long monopoly games on family nights. I was never exposed to short-form content, and I can actually hold eye contact in a conversation. Back then, I thought it was annoying that my parents had me do all of that, but now I can only thank them for that. W mom and dad.

@@MB-lz5eb Well, holding eye contact is important when showing genuine interest in a conversation. It shows that you're honest, and that you are listening. Creepy eye contact, however, is when you aren't talking. There is silence. You are just standing there... Staring...

My main reference for a Gen Alpha kid is my cousin's youngest. When he's not being (badly) home-schooled by his mom, he's shouting at people in Fortnite and eating bowls of microwaved pepperoni (cuz he won't eat anything else & they won't make him try or to even eat it at the table). He's not a full-blow iPad Kid, but he's definitely close. It still falls back a LOT on their parenting, however.

people always say that parents should monitor the content their kids consume or ban them from ipads altogether, but never consider that the content creators that explicitly aim at children ought to actually make their content not so brain-rotting. there's no justification to have this kind of regressive content be targeted at children, and no amount of "let people enjoy things"-type rhetoric can even attempt to defend that.

HOWEVER if I hv kids who r like 7-10 who watch Skibbidi Toilet, on my phone or IPad whenever I let em borrow it, I’m not gonna rlly hv an issue with it because I remember back whenever my parents, cousins’ grandparents, and etcetera would sometimes get annoyed at me whenever I was 8 or 9 for liking Sanjay and Craig and Uncle Grandpa, and how they were absolute killjoys for it. And honestly I would rather hv kids at that age who like Skibbidi Toilet, than be like the friggin walking corpses who tried to ruin my good time, when I was that age.

I am going to copy and paste a comment I made yesterday, because it's pretty fuckin relevant: I went to the library to study yesterday. You see, this library is connected to a school. Here in Finland school grades usually get divided, either by buildings or entire schools. You have the basic grades which are 1-6 and the scary big kid grades: 7-9. The school that the library is connected to is for only 1st-6th graders. How is this relevant? When I open the door it's all first and second grade kids making a ruckus as the librarian stares on dejectedly. There is a library computer that the kids were playing Roblox on. There were other kids, which were chasing each other and playing tag. The entire kids section of the library was like this. Ok cool! I'll just go to the back and study. These two brats followed me. They were playing some kind of made up game crossed between tag and hide 'n seek which involved dragging and clinging onto shelves. I told them to quiet down. What did they do? They began to bug me and do things such as play socially inept peekaboo. They eventually began to come up to me to yell "Rawr!" alongside other 'quirky' behaviour. Holding a phone in your mouth, doing that weird cat thing with your hands, worming across the floor, et cetera. I would've found it endearing if it weren't for the fact that we were in a LIBRARY. If it weren't for the fact that I HAD JUST TOLD THEM TO QUIET DOWN AND GIVE THE STUDYING GAL SOME PEACE! I told the librarian and they got kicked out and banned. Repeat offenders. I went to the library again today. Why? I like the place. Also the kids usually STFU at around 3pm-4pm. Today the situation was somehow worse. I swear, those kids were trying to get a record for "the noisiest and most ill mannered brats to ever disgrace the earth". The librarian was completely defeated. I told her goodbye when I left, which put a noticeable smile on her face, though :) This all appalled me because when I was about their age and went to this library, you'd probably get detention if you made a mess. I am serious! It was constant "shhhht!" and whispering between peers. I somehow thought that the Gen Alpha KZbin videos were exaggerating. Nope. These kids just are complete and utter brats. Great iPad parenting, people. I really love it. The teachers too, excellent discipline. Who knew hiring a bunch of sensitive freshly graduated women in their early 20s wouldn't yield well behaved children? "Ohh they're so young!" That isn't an excuse. I was taught my place and to have basic manners even before first grade. School just enforced those manners. It shocks me how everything can go so awry in the span of only 10 years! (P.S.: for anyone that wants to scream "sexist! Misogynist!" for that teacher comment, I am a lady. Born one, always have been, always will be. I've observed that my classmates refused to respect this wokie substitute. Early 20s, very vocal about her political party, and super sensitive. I am serious! Everyone's favourite teachers are E and S, and they're assertive men in their 50s-60s! It's not that I'm brainwashed into being a -phobe, it's that no one listens to a sensitive teacher who argues with her students about pronouns! Leadership, people. Leadership!) That poor librarian was so defeated. Her eyes lit up when I asked her book related questions without screaming. Oh, and I forgot to mention, but the "Rawr!" duo had their teacher alerted of their behaviour. Thanks for reading my looooooong comment. I've tried my best to clear it up and keep it legible without ranting too much 😅

Every once in a while, you do see a bunch of iPad kids at restaurant and the cases on those iPads are just like 80 cm thick. It’s ridiculous.

Cant lie, seeing my 5 year old cousin going mental when he isn't using a phone or similar thing I would say that I think just having the kid be raised on a screen is the bigger issue.

It’s so sad that parents shove an iPad in their kids face if their complaining or crying instead of taking their time to teach and actually parent them.

Look my parents severely fucked up by giving me an ipod touch when I was 4 but at least they made it apparent to me that I wasn't gonna be on it at the fucking dinner table. This is the problem with new generation parents. No discipline whatsoever it's insane to see.

i don't think people realize that gen alpha isn't just a bunch of iPad kids who love skibidi toilet. a lot of people in gen alpha are 12-14 years old's and have already matured past the iPad stage, and are normal children with normal attention spans and the younger gen alpha kids will probably mature out of the iPad stage too.

parents needs to raise their kids by having pretty much all entertainment system in the living room, so they can control how long they should sit there. leaving them to their own devices that's a big no-no
