i’ve been using the iPad Mini since launch and i love it, but it simply cannot do all the things other iPads can because of the size. I bought it to take notes and be a companion to my macbook, which it does really well. If you have to carry a macbook around like me, get the mini. the weight savings are very nice and your wallet will also thank you. If you are using it to draw, consume content, use word or office, get the air. Neither can replace a laptop, the air is just closer to doing so.

I’ve been using the Mini for sketching, browsing, KZbin etc, even watched a movie on it - the screen size didn’t bother me as it was on my lap in bed, when it’s small it can be that close to your face size doesn’t matter. I would say everyone who needs a truly portable tablet should have the Mini 6, and a big iPad or MacBook for work stuff.

the mini is also a social media beast! if you're coming from editing/watching content on an iphone then the mini is a huge step up. editing tiktoks, instagram photos, youtube videos. creating youtube thumbnails - it can handle it all. this thing is perfect for social media, both for creators and consumers.

iPad Mini is probably more convenient to carry and use to just watch some content and reading the book. Keyboard is a definitely useful accessory, but it costs and weights, also it most comfortable to use when putting the device on the table so if one need a device with keyboard for daily use the full power of MacBook with less cost and less weight might be a better option (unless touch is needed). It is also possible to have a combo of multiple devices.

I’ll go for the iPad Mini for that “pocketable” size and the updated processor. This size is the perfect portable tablet for mobile gaming, watching content and browsing social media; an ultimate portable entertainment machine basically, whereas the 11’ and 12.9’ feel more like the professional work laptop replacements. I’m intending to use an iPad like an actual tablet, a bigger extension of the iPhone basically, and the new Mini with the A15 fits that description perfectly. the Center Stage tech on the Selfie-Camera is awesome. I love that on my Pro. For me, the one thing that would be the difference maker is the lack of a keyboard case for the Mini. I know they can't really make one because the keys would be way too small. I agree with you that the Magic Keyboard is the best accessory for the Air and Pro. Also, I'm willing to bet that USB-C is coming to the iPhone sooner than people may think because the EU is trying to put a law in place that would standardize USB-C for mobile devices .

Spot on with your thoughts man! My mini 6 arrived this morning and yeah it might be a shame I won’t get that awesome window management the M1 the larger iPads are getting this years but as soon as I picked the mini up from its box I knew I made the correct choice here. Missing out on that is a small compromise in favour of a delightful device to hold and use. It’s size feels amazing and it wouldn’t be such a joy to use it if it wasn’t small and one-handable as this one.

@5iveshot170
@5iveshot170 2 жыл бұрын
There’s not much point in comparing these at face value because they are so similar apart from their size. It totally comes down to what you are using it for, there is no ‘wrong choice’ no matter what you decide to go with. Both are great devices! I got the iPad Air because I need the larger screen real estate for note taking, typing documents (hence I need it to be compatible with Smart Keyboards as this review stated) and I prefer the Air’s size for watching videos and general content consumption. If you plan to use it kind of like an extension to your iPhone and you don’t really need the larger screen or like a Kindle, then the mini is great! Just doesn’t fit into my reasons for needing an iPad.

I have a MacBook Pro 15 inch, iPad Pro 12.9 inch with keyboard, and I’m getting the iPad mini 6 soon. The best explanation I can give for having had a mini as well in the past is the laptop is best tool for all around stuff that need major power and multiple uses for processing and such. The iPad 12.9 is the best laptop replacement when you don’t want to take your huge laptop everywhere Bc it can be heavy and cumbersome. The iPad mini is a true tablet experience replacing your phone when you want something with more screen but still portable. I like having options so I have them Bc they have a use for everything. But for someone who can only buy one or two. See what your needs are first

Sometimes a smaller screen can actually be better. Taking an exemple they used in the keynote, but which is really true, is for pilots for exemple. Many pilots (be it Boeing/Airbus professional pilots or small Cessna enjoyers) use tablets to plan their trip, have meteorological data… and you usually strap the tablet to your lap or somewhere in the small space you have in the cockpit, and having a smaller screen is really a huge plus. I’m talking about personal experience, but I’m sure there’s a lot of other domains where this os also true
@jobicek
@jobicek 2 жыл бұрын
It's definitely true for small aircraft and even helicopters, but airliners have huge cockpits and can accommodate an Air on a mount. Sure, if you want a yoke mount or strap one to your thigh, Air is going to be too large. But I don't think I have ever seen an airline pilot with something strapped to his thigh. That's something military pilots do and again, it's a function of a small cockpit with nowhere to put things (and in a helicopter, a factor is that you need both hands to control it). In an Airbus, you can easily use a laptop. There are two other important factors I think. Airliners generally fly only on instruments while small planes and helicopters do a lot of visual flying where you need different maps and you need to watch airspace (which is very complicated in some places). And even if you have fancy digital avionics suite in your aircraft, subscriptions to keep charts up to date are expensive and so some people choose to display them on a tablet where you can get it cheaper.
@vizender
@vizender 2 жыл бұрын
@@jobicek yep I totally agree. However, even if there is more place in a Boeing or Airbus cockpit, you must also remember that there are a lot of instruments everywhere. Okay f using a laptop for exemple, you’d want to have it close most of the time, or for a yoke mount, the screen could easily cover some instrument being it. It’s mostly some analogic instruments being (as a backup is the screens still working) but it does create blind spots.

Disclaimer: I also have a 12.9 inch iPad Pro that I use with a Magic Keyboard when I want the productivity features associated with a larger screen iPad. I would have difficulty choosing between the two (which is why I have both) but if forced to do so, I’d probably pick the Pro despite the fact that in every day use I find myself using my Mini way, way more often.

It depends on the bag. For example, some reporter-style bags are too small for the Air. Others fit it with room to spare. I've got one that is a tad too small even for the mini - a real shame. I think the reason for the lack of a smart connector is that Apple has no intention of making a keyboard for it. And I think they have zero interest in providing it if they have no use for it. I find your insistence that this is a problem while you're not sure such a small keyboard would work baffling. It's definitely possible to make a keyboard that small. And they exist. I have never used one. When I need a keyboard, I carry the MacBook Air.

Pretty specific to me, admittedly, but my iPad mini 5 fits in my Aer City Sling or Alpaka Atom X sling with my other small EDC easily for day trips whereas my iPad Pro 11 would need a backpack with a tonne of wasted space if I were to take that around. I just grabbed the magic keyboard for my iPad Air 4. The only thing I wish my air had was center stage. Other than that I think the smart pin feature set outweighs the smaller benefits. But that’s just me.

I liked the idea of ipad mini being small just fit in a palm of hand. The screen is enough for me to do my illustration and design works. But it best only on single task works, not comfortable for multitask works. That's why i choose ipad air because the screen is larger and at least comfortable for 2 split screen. With the help of grip holder on my ipad air, i can still work on portable just like an ipad mini. Ipad air is just suit with my needs and my satisfaction.

Thanks for the great review. Hope you can help me out with my situation. Here are my choices: Option 1: Get an iPad Mini 6, retain my iPhone 11 or Option 2: Get an iPhone 13 mini, sell my iPhone 11 and get an iPad 9th gen. Do you think the iPhone 13 mini’s cinematic mode is a game changer to upgrade vs. retaining my iPhone 11 for photo /video purposes only? For the other usage cases (browsing, media consumption, email) will be using an iPad. Appreciate your inputs. Thanks

I have the 11 and it is still a very good phone. There aren't that many features enticing me to upgrade to the 13 mini so I would just get the iPad mini 6. You might enjoy the smaller size a lot

The Smart Keyboard is so crazy heavy. That also defeats the point of an iPad. Just bring a MacBook at that point. Team mini all the way!

Exactly, i sold my ipad pro cause its heavier than a macbook when paired with the keyboard. It cannot replace a laptop if it can't do half of what i do on my laptop and is more of a hassel to bring than an actual laptop. At that point stick with a macbook. I wish theres a macbook with touchscreen alread

There’s no student offer for iPad mini but for iPad Air it’s there and makes you eligible for a free Airpod. Here in india iPad mini with student offer is somewhere 44k and air is 50k but with Airpod worth 14k. I think going for air before 27th September is a good choice
