I started on an iPad Air and it was great, but I soon got tired of having to transfer my work to the computer using the cloud. And then I'd notice that I missed something, or that I could make it better, so back to the iPad, makes changes, transfer again. Plus, the app I use - Affinity Designer - has some real issues on the iPad. I finally broke down and tried to learn how to use a pen display and now that I've gotten used to it, I won't go back to using the iPad. It's just nice, having access to the working file, less shuffling about, using an app with all the features working. And I LOVE the felt nips. One suggestion, though, concerning desk space. I use a Kamvas 16 and I've attached it to a swingable VESA arm using a metal clipboard, a piece of thin plywood, a few bolts, and a whole lot of Command Strip velcro, so I can pull it off. It puts the display up with my main display and I use it always as a second monitor. And when I need to draw, I just swing the pen display out on the arm where it hovers over my mouse & keyboard, nearly vertical and at eye level, so I don't suffer any neck or back strain at all. I also have enough room on the rig to attach a Huion KD100 shortcut keyboard right next to the display, because I love that wheel for rotating the canvas. Anyway, great video. Now that I've found you, I'm going to watch some more.
@Hijab_Diffusion2 жыл бұрын
I used both interchangeably, iPad air for brainstorming and cintiq 16 for complex 100+ layers final works. But the most efficient way is still traditional table without screen because its doesn't generate neck and back pain like iPad or cintiq did, for the long-term i definitely suggest traditional tablet for health priority. But you can get longterm comfy using pen display by installing vesa/ergotron, although they're quite expensive and only suitable for really big display like 22inch, you can mod a 16 inch on it, but it's not the best option for arm-rest.
@Anastasiaberry2 жыл бұрын
Ah, didn't think about neck here, it totally might became an issue >w< I have no back/neck pain still, after year and a half of using both, and hope it's gonna stay that way... Maybe it's because I try to go to the gym couple times a week, it saved my back from pain when I was at the University ^^ I enjoy the screens too much right now, so I'll guess I'll just continue using them untill my neck will try to kill me, it's too much fun ^w^

Pen displays can also be used as just "pen tablets" when you want to. Meanwhile you'll never be able to turn a "traditional tablet" into a display, unless you do crazy diy mods 😀

I've been messing with display tablets for years trying to get them to work, and I have occasionally got results, but I recently got an iPad and I find that it helps me not be distracting by my computer because it's a separate thing. Even if I'm sitting at my computer, I am not interacting with it so there is less of a temptation to be distracted by something on it.

Ты такая милая! Прекрасные видео и прекрасная художница. Молодец! For anyone who's still trying to decide, this is what I did, after obsessing over getting an iPad for more than a month (was thinking about it before as well but I was waiting for Black Friday). The iPad is awesome, especially if you pair it with Porcreate. But as Ana mentioned, there is a limitation on the resolution and the layers. Only an iPad Pro can handle a resolution suitable for printing while permitting enough layers. An iPad Pro though costs a small fortune, especially outside the US. She recommended something really cool, which is also what I'm planning to do. Instead of getting the best iPad, go for the Kamvas plus the iPad 9 with the 1st gen pencil. It will cost as much as getting an iPad Air 64 GB. With the iPad it takes a lot more effort to move things around and be careful about the storage and still not get high enough resolution or layers. Just ordered my Kamvas 13, hope I'll put it to good use!

Clicked on this video since I was thinking swapping my screenless tablet to something where I can draw on a screen. And immediately sold on the one where the amount of layers are not limited. Hi! Thank you for that video! I personally use a Samsung Galaxy Tab S6 lite for drawing, that cost me, in promotion, 400€ or a bit less...S-Pen and the cover include. I've had it for over a year now, at first I loved it. I'm using the app IbisPaint, but there are other really good apps around apparently, it's just a question of preference. I had been using IbisPaint X for years on my phone, doing edits on it so it was just way easier for me to keep going with the same app. Now.. eh. I'm glad I have it, I think it is a wonderful tablet, especially for the price you pay it. But I feel stuck with it now, Android doesn't have the same level of fluidity as iOS, it is a bit too small for me (10.4"), and.. the app, omfg. It gives me anger bursts, I could move to another one but no, I tried many, didn't like them.. so I'll stick with it, knowing that sometimes it lags like crazy. Honestly it might be my tablet's fault, in any case it's really frustrating. The battery also is an issue for me, it doesn't last long.. and it's very annoying! I think that tablet is perfect if you have a restricted budget, if you move a lot or don't have a computer, want to carry the tablet easily.. and wanna try digital art. Or if it's for a kid for example! In these cases, it'll be amazing and you won't find easily a tablet that can compete both its price and quality. It's also regularly in promotion, and available in 3 colors... 2 if you're in France like me, pink is unailable I don't know why ;-; If you're already into digital art and you like it tho, if you know it's this way you wanna improve your art.. I wouldn't recommand it. You will get frustrated quickly I think. I would tell you to either save up to buy a graphic tablet+computer if you don't have one already, or save up to buy at least an iPad Air (4th gen minimum).. from what I saw it is great for artists and still cheaper than the iPad Pro. Personally the only thing that would convince me to buy a pro instead of an air is the size.. the ipad pro 12.9" must be so comfortable to draw on. But the price... dear lord 😭 Here, I'm done writing my novel :D PS: that makeup is GORGEOUS. I'm in love with it 🤩

User of many things tablets and displays here, ill give my honest assessments of ipad/Cintiq displays and tablets. The ipad is an all in one mobile tablet that can also be drawn on with the apple pencil/i-pencil and is literally a computer in a sense you can take with you everywhere. The Wacom/Huion/XP PEN/Bosto drawing displays are tablets with a built on screen than can be drawn on as well as they act as their own display with varying specifucations of tech depending on the year and manufacturing date and generation type. These need a usually a source to display as well as a plug to power them on as well as drivers to make them work (for the pen to communicate with the display. You cannot take these with you as they must remain with the computer to power them on. There are also the regular tablets that can be used to draw on while looking at a main moitor. Depending on what type of display or tablet you purchase remember that buying the most expensive device or aparatus will not magically give you tye best art skill or make you a master. You as an artist have to draw on the device. You can find used or cheap displays on ebay from ipads to cintiqs to other drawing displays or tablets if you cannot afford brand new. You van also find them on Amazon if you want or even from the manufacturers website. If youre going mobile and moving about constantly or sit down in bed/sofa/hallways,cafe, get an ipad or ipad pro, if youre mostly drawing from a desk with computer then get a Cintiq or XP Pen Pro or Huion or Bosto display (Wacom used to be a monopoly but that is now differwnt since XP Prn and others are offering cheaper priced alternatives that work just as well as a cintiq without killing your bank account). The ipad has the mobile IOS not the desktop OS of Macintosh and youre limited to mobile apps. Though there are apps that mimic desktop variants like Affinity Photo, Paintstorm Studio and even Clip Studio Paint. With the displays you use apps and software that are full fledged from the computer (Mac OS/Windows/Linux).

3:12 I use a Samsung tab s7 to draw, kind of saving up for a screen display pen tablet, there is no procreate but there is infinite painter, and it's similar to procreate (can't animate on it though), I've been using clip studio paint for 2 years now on my computer (which is a one-time payment) while 6-months free trial on a Samsung tablet but I couldn't afford paying the subscription, so yeah saving up for a display tablet is better so I can animate on clip studio paint on my computer (one-time payment vs subscription). It's still good to draw on ofc, like with other apps like flipaclip, medibang, ibis paint, etc. I personally am picky with the programs because I've been so used to the number of features in clip studio paint.

Desktop windows system xd Also S8 not very great with external keyboard touchpad activation lag(?), but it works, as their windows emulation if u wanna work with mouse for some reason. Also note that you need to buy pen, costly (3004) keyboard and other stuff for Apple, so it might cost 50% more at the end.

Please use the Samsung tab s8+ or ultra! It comes with a pen and you can use clip studio art or Concepts on it. I want your honest opinion on it

I have a Wacom Intuos S that's been on my desk for 6 months. I'm looking to buy a good Windows laptopt that works with it so I can try Clip Studio Paint.

Hi Anastasia, have you tested to use the iPad as a pen display?

@@Anastasiaberry there seems to be many apps for iPad to windows, like AstroPad and Duet (kzbin.info/www/bejne/mqmacpp3otOVgpYsi=L5Pge4bYmG72r9RI), but I think Mac to iPad works automatically even. I haven't bought my first iPad yet. Would love to see a review from you on using the iPad as a pen display.

Cool, I'm an Apple guy may they have more than 16,000 levels of pressure, double that of the Huion (do you need 8000 levels of pressure?). God bless you.

Very nice video! I am about to buy an I pad pro and I was having second thoughts because of the cost but portability and the ability to use gestures to zoom etc is a big plus for me. Before buying my desktop I had a touch screen laptop so I'm used to reaching to the screen a lot. Also, I've watched a lot of tutorial videos and procreate felt very fun and friendly so maybe I think I should follow my heart and create where it feels easier because I'm a beginner. I can always send my files over to my desktop and try to do the final touches there with a plain sketching surface like wacom one right?

my dilemma at the moment is that I want something that's easy to transport (I do art for my projects at school). I have a display tablet at home but I cant transport it anywhere because of all the wires 😭. So I was looking at an iPad but then I found out about the limited layers which is kinda a problem for me 😅.

lol, I followed your Instagram long time ago. Based on artwork you post (which are so awesome) I thought you (the artist) were some gloomy goth girl (sorry didn't mean bad). Turns out you are so sweet. Thanks for your review. I think I'm going to buy display tablet then

huge thank you for this Anastasia. subbed! even before your conclusion, i've processed the awesome information you have provided heheh - getting both ipad and display-tablet will allow more flexibility and options for both beginner and experienced artists. while getting an ipad for quick sketches, minimal-Layered drawings are already good enough for beginners (like me). again, thank you!
