One of the best deciding guides I’ve heard is: If you want a tablet that can sometimes function as ‘laptop’ get 11”. If you want a ‘laptop‘ that can sometimes be used as a tablet get12.9”

Well said, I own both sizes currently. I’m selling my 11 inch which is a great portable size and keeping the 12.9, but it’s an adjustment because of the extra weight and size but I like the extra real estate and I’m one of those “ipad only” guys 95% of the time.

Dude! Hallelujah…. In 7 minutes you have answered the question that I have been searching the answer for for this past few months, thank you thank you thank you! 12.9 inch or 11 inch, I couldn’t find anyone who would give a definitive answer, all the other reviewers just say stuff like “it’s up to you if you want the bigger and better screen”, or “the bigger screen is better for multi tasking”. We already know that stuff, but you my friend have said it like it is, it’s too heavy and awkward to use comfortably and for the price a MacBook is a better option. That’s all I needed to know, now I can go purchase my 11 inch iPad Pro and be content once again. Cheers man.

I too went with the 11” Pro, back in 2018. Portability was the key. Anyone that uses their iPhone regularly, or for productivity, should immediately recognize the benefits of having a larger screen size. But not too large, like the 12.9”. The 11” Pro is basically the size of content that would comfortably fit on a standard sheet of paper, while also being able to fit inside most compact style bags or packs, without being awkwardly heavy… The Apple OS be it iOS/PadOS/MacOS are the main reason for me, to go with their ecosystem, everything just works so well, and the unparalleled processing power and efficiency of their chips enhances the experience. Since purchase, I use it more than the MacBookPro which was three times the cost… …

I’ve had both and I completely disagree. Yes the 12.9 is more heavy but it’s screen is better than the 11 inch it has darker blacks and is brighter at full brightness the 12.9 also has a larger battery and no it’s not uncomfortable to use. Also the 12.9 is much better than a MacBook MacBooks with the m1 chip like to overheat the 12.9 doesn’t

Having owned the 11" and a Mini, I can fully attest to the fact that even an 11" is heavy and awkward to use comfortably. The best size for portability is the ipad Mini. My favorite mini was the 5th gen. It was the last one with a headphone jack and a home button too. But it was just so much more practical to use if you need to pop it in and out of bags and carry it around. I have the ipad pro 2021 11" fully decked out with accessories and I miss my iPad Mini 5.

@@ezraredgwell I'm not a fan of the 4:3 aspect ratio. It reminds me of the old square sized television. Nowdays almost every tv or theater uses the 16:9 ratio. The 11" is better suited for that. I'm not impressed with mini LEDs as I find OLED to be much better without blooming issues in dim lighting. My Redmagic 5G has a killer screen for gaming and content consumption and it's just a phone with no camera notches and headphone jack still there. I use that for when I'm consuming video/audio content.

I completely agree. I have both the 12.9 and 11. I like the 12.9’s screen over the 11 (who wouldn’t?) but holding the 12.9 for more than a few minutes starts to hurt the wrist. I can hold the 11’ longer. The 12.9 also flips backwards easier when it sits on your lap. I pull out the 12.9 every once in a while, but always go back to the 11’!

So, why even have both? I could see having a 12.9 inch iPad for things that need a big screen and a 8.4 inch iPad to have one that’s more portable (provided cost isn’t a factor), but why have both 12.9 and 11? Personally I have the 11-inch Air M1 alone, good enough at the iPad Mini’s uses, good enough at the 12.9 inch’s uses, *perfect* as a highly mobile laptop, a middle ground that cost $900 fully specced out (256gb, Logitech combo touch case, Apple Pencil) as opposed to a minimum of $1450 if you get an entry model iPad Mini, entry model Pro 12.9, both of them on the best sales Amazon’s had for them, no keyboard, no pencil.

Yeah, even after seeing many youtubers preferring 12.9 inch iPad pro, i was not satisfied with buying it. Common, 11 inch is more practical in daily life. I kept asking myself, suppose you had both ipads available at your home, which one would you take to outside often, and the answer is 11 inch. Also iPad pro is primarily a productivity tool & not media consumption device, so portability is important. So I ordered 11 inch iPad yesterday, i will get it within 3 days, can't stop thinking about Unboxing & using it. This video gave me more conviction in my purchasing decision, nice job there..

The iPad Pro 12.9 inch with the Magic Keyboard fits fine in my backpack and fits perfectly in my lap for typing and drawing anyplace. The weight difference is tiny to me and not a factor even in heavy daily use, including traveling about. In terms of screen size, as I get older I find the larger 12.9 in screen displays the same amount of content but is much easier to read. I did test them both at the Apple Store and, for me, the 12.9 was the hands-down right choice.

Instead of people buying the product that makes sense for them, we have endless “reviewers” hyping up relatively minor things such as “omg you guys the bigger screen is a MUST for multitasking, and it looks amazing with HDR content.” Well who is multitasking on an iPad in the first place? People seem to forget the whole point of the 12.9”; it’s a drawing tablet. It was never supposed to be a 2-in-1 or laptop replacement. It can do it to some degree for some people, but that’s not the selling point. Anyone looking for a laptop experience should buy a laptop, not an iPad. I also blame youtubers for giving this false impression that the 12.9” is a viable device for average users, because they also woefully misunderstood the point and sold people on the lie that they should get the 12.9” if they could afford it based on a user experience that will never happen.

Iv been studying this ipad scene now hardly and here is my take: If you have PC, get Ipad. -You will do hard stuff on PC anyways, and Ipad can handle all the light stuff like Office 365 and some photoediting. But the bonus is, you will use Ipad way more than laptop on freetime. Its much easier to watch stuff, google stuff, or just handle it on a sofa. 11 vs 12.9 -11 is absolute blast, feels like mini laptop with magic keyboard. BUT. If you have big hands, they will get cramped on the keyboard. I think this should be the only legit argument for 12.9. Yes the screen is nice, but when have you bought an Apple product bcs of the screen? 300$ android phones got better screen than iphone 15. 11 is enough to handle all the necessary multitasking. -11 is also way more portable as a tablet, 12.9 is bit too big to use without the keyboard. If you use normal backbag, it doesnt matter is it 12.9 or 11. Both fits. If you dont have any sort of computer, get macbook/windows laptop / PC. -You need a device that can do hard stuff, like some softwares that ipad cant be used.

Personally, I think there should be significant size differences between different kinds of mobile devices. Like I don't think it's a good idea to go for a smartphone that has the same size as a very small tablet. Likewise, I don't think it's a good idea to go for a tablet that approaches the size of smaller laptops. Besides size, weight also matters, and holding a tablet shouldn't double as an isometric exercise. Tablets have always been better media consumption devices than ones meant for productivity, not that they can't, but laptops have and will probably always reign supreme in most productive applications.

i got the pro 12.9 m2 chip with 16gb 1tb purely for procreate. and im shocked that procreate cant handle a 300dpi A0 image (more than 2 layers). yet for some reason ps 2022 on an i7 with 16gb ssd and intel hd5500 can handle better. hmmmmmmmm

I got an 12.9" M2 Ipad. It is my first ever apple device, and turned it in to a 2200 Euro laptop, and yes it is a laptop, cost much then a laptop, has all the laptop components, it is marketed as a laptop replacement, so I will review it as a laptop. 1st. I went for the 12.9" because I use it for school, some times to read and write at the same time so I need a big screen and there is no 12.9" Air. 2nd. Before this I had a 3rd gen 12.9" ipad for about 3 months just to see how I use it, so I got some experience Impression out of the gate: m2 is bare minimum of bare minimum upgrade over 3rd gen. writes 3-5% faster then 3rd gen and even now after a month of use, I am not quite sure I like the extra speed. that is it in use: the ipad laptop is again the smallest amount possible above being useless. A professional oriented device with 51q2 GB storage and 8GB of ram, that sells for 2200 Euro, does not work with samba sharing, does not have a full office support, on screen keyboard can't be switch from small to large in 90% of situations, plus a really atrocious interface that does its best to be in your way, like every time you touch the top with your mouse the notification screen covers your entire screen, or if you want to write something in whatsapp, the iOS COVERS YOUR TEXT, and much more. As I saidt it is the first and most likely last Apple device. If this is what Apple is capable to do in 2023, their products are worthless. the silver line for this atrocious experience, is I got to see what reviewers can be trusted or not. When I see channels like macadress sucking that apple pencil about ipads, when they are nearly useless, it is clearly they are just a pr channel for apple. Want an ipad, and don't have a very specific need, go for the cheapest one on the market. Even 3 generation old ipads are literally the same as new ones.

I bought the m1 iPad Pro 12.9 inch (5th gen) 512 GB as my first iPad and I don’t plan to upgrade until the device becomes very outdated or no longer has support. I’m definitely getting all of my money’s worth! 😂

Thanks for the video Julian. I have actually just gone to an iPad mini 6, and given my 11” iPad Pro to my wife. I find the mini 6 even more portable and useful as a supplementary device for my Macbook. Thanks once again.

I use my mini all the time but oddly i still use the 5 more when i travel than the newer 6. The software updates are better on the 6, faster multi threading etc but the 5 is just a bit thinner, lighter, and my old notchbook case which I looooove, from the 4, fits the 5. Chil Notchbook was awesome then it got sold and newer ones weren't as thick n cushy a material but now those are gone too. Company went MIA

If i would not care about money or performance (on the Mac) i would have bought a M2 MacBook Air and a M1 iPad Pro 12,9", both with 1TB SSD at least (on the Mac probably even 2TB SSD and 32 or 64GB Ram) But since i cared about a somewhat acceptable price/performance ratio AND performance, i bought longer ago a 16" M1 Pro base model and recently a M1 iPad Air (in 256GB Wifi, 64Gb were just unacceptable for 2023...) Apples actual prices and models the offer, especially base models just suck, any going towards anything better will result in a better model for a even higher price with a high chance. Apple really know how to rip off their customers (not that other companies dont do as well, they are partially even worse)

Think that the big pro is intentionally designed as a niche (i.e. more "pro") model aiming at creators who are appreciating a bigger canvas / display to use with the pencil and who also appreciate the bigger diagonal to arrange and layout stuff. Your point is very valid to emphasize the iPad as a complimentary device, it never was nor is a replacement for a proper computer.

Had a iPad 12 inch for 9 months and it bent , I believe it is a structural fault cause it bent at the charging point but apple blamed me although I treated it as a baby and took care of it. Would not recommend this ipad end up buying the 11 inch iPad

Blooming on the 12.9, cannot use the MAC OS eco system, so theres no point imo-- get a macbook air. The 11" with a keyboard is a great travel companion.

to hold the 12.9" for long periods of time, just make sure your elbow is supported. I've held a 12.9" for hours at a time. I'd hold two but I need a hand for the pencil. Only when I'm working out do I hold both of my 12.9" iPads. Back to holding one iPad: If you are standing, use a baby carrier thing that goes over one shoulder and under the other. That supports your elbow and you can hold onto the beast all day long. Problem solved. No need for an 11" iPad and, to be Frank, instead of Oidbio, I can't wait to get the 14" iPad that is supposed to be out in 2023...that bad boy will be able to house an M1 Ultra and will make multitasking so fluid, you are guaranteed to get Attention Deficit Disorder! I can't wa.... a squirl!

Yes, great idea! Can use any sling type being if material spread over the shoulder and under the other, the 12.9 will be well supported then. In fact there are many type supports, even bags nowadays, in that fashion.

12.9 is too cumbersome and heavy to be a practical tablet. If you want to use it as a laptop, get a MacBook instead which is miles better and costs about the same.

Just got mine in the mail today. kzbin.infoUgkxhcEDB3r-OJ3_X5hQzr7k1ZofTQy1ao_U The corners of the box was a little smashed but I think that’s more of the shipping’s fault. iPad was in perfect condition though. I ordered the yellow one thinking it was going to be a bright vibrant color. Instead I looks like more of a Gold color. I personally prefer the gold look. Definitely not disappointed but just a heads up to the ones expecting a brighter cream of yellow.

Do NOT buy the Tab s5e, either buy the S4 or S6 Regular models. The S5E is not compatible with S Pen. And the processor is lacking very hard. I have all 3 of these tablets. S4 has better battery life, s6 has better software.
