Great thing I learned the downsides of not having the cellular option early on with the OG 2015 iPad Pro - I found the iPad (or any other tablet for that matter) loses its versatility once you step out of that wifi signal. Sure hotspot is an option but it tears through your phone battery very quickly hence you lose access to an always on connection causing you to constantly miss real time notifications. I hated getting bombarded by dozens of notifications every time I connect to the network so starting with the 2018 iPad Pro, every single iPad I owned is the cellular option. Totally worth it! Another cool thing to note is that only the cellular models have GPS on it meaning you can actually use your iPad for maps navigation if you have the 5G model (using Google maps looks hilarious on a 13inch M4 when navigating because it looks so huge 😂)

I find using this ipad as a replacement for a mac as a student to be nearly impossible. Firstly, almost every program available on iPadOS has a big lack of features and functionality when compared to the same apps/programs on a mac. Along with this, even when using the Magic Keyboard, shortcut functionality is severely lacking, its a hit or miss if it works at all and depending on the app you use sometimes it just doesn’t even work with shortcuts, while on a mac it is a consistently smooth experience with every program. One place I found this especially annoying is when trying to type on literally any other writing app besides pages. Word is essentially unusable on ipad, the writing experience is just so broken. Now, this wouldn’t be an issue if using pages for university work was possible. But unfortunately, most professors at my university don’t accept documents typed in pages because either, they are completely unable to open them, the fonts and formatting doesn’t save correctly, or other issues. Apple in its pursuit to be different and exclusive has effectively made their pages program completely obsolete. So, with this, I am completely unable to write papers on my ipad - which is a great amount of the workload im doing. Second, almost every single program in Microsoft 360, although it has an iPadOS app or “equivalent”, are completely unusable in my opinion. Like you mentioned, even in PowerPoint, a program designed for visuals which would be incredible to use on an ipad, lacks functionality and features that mac has. This makes any kind of work with these very important and prominent programs unavailable on an ipad. Even an app like Canva, something that does work well on an ipad, is lacking features and functionality on the ipad version if you compare it to the mac. All of these lacking functionality features make me not even want to use the iPad because it will be buggy and shortcuts wont work well and I wont even be able to access all the features of the programs I paid for! Another thing is that using an ipad basically means you are unable to browse the web with all the desktop features, making large amounts of content and websites completely unavailable and useless on the iPad. Because of this I’ve noticed that with programs like Honorlock, (an online exam proctoring tool) I am unable to start a session at all. This means unless I have a desktop, I am unable to take any of my online exams. You can sometimes get around this by asking the website for permission to use desktop mode, but if a website doesn’t want you to use its desktop version without a computer, you simply wont be able to use it, they will deny the request. There are even more issues ive found but these are the main ones, really wish that instead of making more ipad models they would work on making the ones they have actually functional, especially the pro models because it’s absolutely ridiculous that I cant do any pro level tasks with my pro level capabilities I paid extra for just because the iPads software is terrible.
