I used the iPad Pro for a full day’s office work yesterday. I ran into many frustrations that were NOT born from comparing the iPad to MacOS. Most had to do with how clunky and unintuitive stage manager is. Trying to open a second safari window on the iPad while an instance is already open on an external monitor is way more complicated than it should be.

Well said Chris. I transitioned from a 2015 MacBook Pro to an iPad Pro back in 2017 and haven’t looked back once. 11” 2018 to a 12.9” in 2020 and finally a 12.9” M1 in 2022 and have loved and enjoyed the experience the entire time. Critics will be critics and always want more but my iPad Pro is my daily driver and go to and I wouldn’t want it any other way.

The only reason why I can't use the iPad Pro as my main and only computer is because 1) Steam/Palworld is not on it and 2) Programming/Coding on it is non-existent.

Thanks for sharing. Very few reviewers target my use case when it comes to iPad and iPadOS. I.e By far, the majority of my workflow for business and personal use is on the iPad. I'd love if they showed me their iPad/os mindset and tell me what feature and workflow experiences I can expect with the new model. Unfortunately, most of the reviewers seem to be coming from a laptop use case which is something I just don't care about.

I bought an M2 12.9" iPad for work and it's been great, even though I only use it casually now. The one thing I don't get (which also affects the Mac Studio) is people complaining about the design, saying it's "dated". I'm not sure what people are looking for? Sure thinner bezels, but that isn't really a design change. And the Studio is just a tall Mac mini... OK, I don't really see that as a problem. I understand people talking about the mini, since there is a lot of void space, but the Studio uses all of it's space. I'd rather they leave the design alone and try to improve other areas, like battery life.

Can’t wait for the new iPad Pro to come out. I will be upgrading my current 11” for a 13”. I have a laptop that I never use. I’m on my iPad all the time to watch videos and movies or to play games. I shop on it, do my banking, everything I need. I take it with me when I travel.

My 2017 10.5" Pro is still working, even though the battery is getting slow. I got my first iPad in 2011. I wrote several novels on the iPad because it was so much more convenient than my laptop. I have had an iPad Air, which I gave to my husband so I could buy a Pro. People who whine about the iPad obviously never explored everything it can do.

I love your perspective on the iPad! Honestly, I’ve been iPad ‘mostly’ for years and the only thing “Pro” means to me is “more power”. For an everyday user, it does almost everything you could possibly need! My problems have been when I’ve tried to use this for anything beyond Prosumer work! Can I use Word? Yes! But… not if you need to build a citations for an academic paper. Can you use Excel? Yep... just without Pivot Tables. And almost any "Work" app has been that way for me. It does 100% of what you need as a Prosumer, just not everything you need to get Work done. But my 12.9 inch M1 iPad Pro is stil my favorite computer! For my wife, her M1 ipad is her ONLY computer. My kids: iPads for school. iPad does everything we need to as long as we don't cross into "Work". Then I have to remote into something else or fire up another device to be efficient.

I bought iPads for both my parents and taught them how to use them. Non-techies now live and die on their iPads and never use their laptop. What is a PC? It is what works for you. When people say it is not a laptop replacement, of course, it is not for everyone, and to use that as a stick is unfair and likely flexing. For many people, it is enough, so reviewers and comments should understand that not everyone needs a laptop so that an iPad can be a game-changer for millions, and of course, it has.

I love the iPad Pro and use it daily for most things, but criticism isn’t a bad thing. It’s a voice of things that should be in there, especially at a certain price point. Things I believe should be here when the 2024 M3 chip iPad arrives. *Able to work from an external drive, right now you have to move it to your on board storage. * Instead of going thinner, why not a Vapor chamber or slightly larger stacked battery. * A Rosetta like software like MacOS uses for intel, why cant we have this for iPadOS to MacOS. * More pro applications not just for a KZbinr / Creative. We need Xcode and Unity at minimum, then it’s a true Pro device. I love the advancements overtime, but there is more than just creatives interested in there devices as a professional. Overall i agree though, and love the iPad. But there is definitely real criticism amongst the complaints.

...which is honestly really pointless cuz all they want is a touchscreen Mac. Please never ever think of putting macOS on any iPad. People always say the iPad should be more capable because of its high price and all of them use the 12.9-inch iPad Pro as the metric. Those are for people who have the cash to burn or who really make good use of the device. Most people can just get an iPad Air 5, if not an iPad 10, and be perfectly fine with that. I love my iPad Pro 11 inch and I love iPadOS, do not kill that for me, Apple.
@randizzle99

@@VincentLeong-bb4vn here’s the thing about using the 12.9 as the metric: these reviewers are talking about it not being capable enough or just not being enough in general and they couldn’t be more wrong. I am a filmmaker, photographer and writer for a living and my iPad Pro 12.9 4’th generation is STILL an essential part of all of that. I literally use other every single day alongside my Mac Mini M1. Before I got the Mac, the iPad was my only computer for years (besides an old gaming pc I used for my home theater setup).

you either hate it or you love it. depends on how you use it. I write a lot and draw, so I have gone through several keyboards, NOT the apple keyboard, its to expensive for what it is. I do use the apple pencil for drawing. love it. it took a while to figure out the touch interface for the different softwares that I use. the touch interface is never intituve, and you have to watch a tutorial to figure out how to do many things. the software available is getting better, again it depends on what you want it to do. I write, so that is my main use. I have several writing apps. they work well mostly. they will never be the desktop experience but they were not meant to be. as far as complaints, every keyboard i have bought has a track pad, WHY?? The Ipad is a touch screen. the trackpad is not needed. when typing, my hand always brushes the touch pad and moves the curser somewhere I dont want it and I have to stop and cmd z to fix it. the keyboard I am using now, has a key to disable the trackpad, YAY !! My second complaint is that there is no REASONABLE way to program on the Ipad. I miss using Thoney to program my raspi boards. other than that, I will most likely be upgrading to the M3 Ipad pro. I have the 2020 Ipad pro now. also purchased the mini 6 for reading last Dec 23.

So I said this and I’ll say it again. The device is great. It’s Apples fault 🤷🏽‍♂️ the iPad is MARKETED as a laptop replacement/ 2 in 1. Here’s the problem, for coders, game developers, and other folks that don’t necessarily need power but need the availability of specific apps/programs, it’s non existent. Then you start to look at the $1100 price tag, coupled with the 2-in-1 accessories like the Magic Keyboard and you’re quickly at $1500 after taxes. Which $1500 could get you a much better equipped PC. Yes it’s a different OS/ecosystem. But for that kind of money plus the marketing behind the device, what do you expect in terms of reviews? The other problem with Apple is they wait until people complain about something THEY AS ENGINEERS AND DESIGNERS KNOW SHOULD BE INCLUDED from the jump, I.e a fast charger, a better port for external accessories. I’m not even saying the iPad Pro NEEDS MacOS but for the money they need to give us at least parallels-ish program to run certain Mac apps. For example. As a game dev I have to develop 2D art on my iPad and then use my PC for Unity. Wild thing is, my PC has about half the raw power and 2x the ram of my iPad for almost a third of price of my setup. (iPad pro 12.9 M2 Base)

My iPad Pro currently has 2 more GPU cores than my MacBook and it runs iPadOS, else they are practically the same spec-wise. I appreciate the convenience of doing video editing or coding even on public transport but when I sit down, macOS feels so much better for serious work. This is why even though I like the iPad, I don't get the Magic Keyboard. It adds a lot of weight and bulk and takes away its flexibility but it doesn't solve the issues with its OS (dumbed-down apps and bugs, lack of shortcuts). Apple is doing a great job of making the Mac and iPad great but separate. I just find myself valuing my MacBook way more. Not that the iPad is bad, it is just not the device (main and only device) for me. This might be a controversial take but the Magic Keyboard is the worst accessory to the iPad. It does what it's supposed to but a physical keyboard on an iPad is, in my opinion, pointless. If you cannot afford both devices then the Magic Keyboard could provide some value but it is still so expensive. When I go out, I ask myself which device would I take with me. It is usually neither, both, or iPad only. The only 2 reasons for me to take the iPad are that I want it to be a second screen, or I know that I won't be stationary but still want to get some work done throughout the day. Adding any keyboard case defeats the purpose of getting an iPad. Because at that price point, a Windows Surface Pro would be much better. With the keyboard, I can not hold the iPad without ripping it off, I cannot lay it flat, I couldn't take it out and use it instantly. I see lots of people saying that I would use the iPad Pro as my main device if it has this or supports that but honestly, the iPad is not what you need. Simple thing, command + space is bad on iPadOS, don't know why. The files app is horrible and glitches so much on stage manager, again not sure why. The battery life sucks compared to a MacBook. So why do I make so many compromises to make the iPad work for me as my main device? MacBook and iPad are the best combo, one is a productivity beast, and the other is an extension of that experience that is portable and is the best accessory to the Mac (if you have one). I am not saying that everyone needs a Mac but if you are asking for more on iPadOS, you can simply get a Mac. We can ask for the quality of life differences, but asking for macOS on iPad or getting full-featured pro apps like fcp for Mac or Xcode is just pointless. And I don't see why. Maybe all you want is a touch-screen Mac? And if your reason is just that you like iPadOS and hate macOS, then Apple is probably not gonna care. They will continue making you pay for 2 devices, and they continue to stick by what they mean by "Uniquely iPad".
