Chris, this might be a silly question: you mention the iPad files just lives on the iPad. But at the end of the video you stated about the files being saved to the cloud when you close your iPad. What files were you referring to?

Hi Christopher. Thanks very much for this Files App tutorial I learned a lot on here. One thing I noticed , when I tired to change my default downloads location to my one drive, it would not let me choose that location. This happened with Google drive as well. It did allow me to choose iCloud though. Is this an apple thing where it only wants you to choose iCloud ? Anyways, thanks . Rob

I’m currently facing an issue with the safari downloads .it downloads in iCloud I try to change to download on my iPad storage but it automatically switches to iCloud. I talked to customer support of Apple twice but 1st said it’s a bug and 2nd said it’s a new feature. Can you please tell me if you are also facing the same issue after iPadOS 17.4.1 . If not, do you have any solution for it .

When I click a document on ICloud, it will save it locally such that that “cloud” icon will diappear but will it take up my local storage? I have a 128gb iPad Pro only and have a 2GB iCloud storage so I have concern on my local storage. I am using google drive as my life admin to storage all my documents / backup photos but I m considering to switch it to ICloud. On google drive, I can simply open a doc there and edit it or simply view the photos there without downloading it locally so I wonder can ICloud do the same ?Thanks!

Hi! The lack of eject button HAS caused issues for me. iPadOS has corrupted one of my hard drives, which wouldn't mount anywhere and made Macs crash systematically. The solution was to use HFS+ on a windows computer (not a virtual machine because... the Mac would crash 🙃) and I recovered the drive (after a year of thinking all my projects on it were gone!) Clearly, it seems to be exception to the rule and there surely factors that played in that I don't fully understand (was I on a beta? Was it the format of the drive? A specific app?) I just wanted to bring some nuance to the "ABSOLUTELY NOT TRUE" argument in your video. 💛

One of the most bizarre features is the ability to click on the spinning circle next to ‘iCloud drive’ and then it tells you close to zero information. It always says something like ‘downloading 1 item’ with no real progress bar or indication of what process is happening or to which file.

I really hope we see some big improvements with file management on the iPad in the next version of iPadOS. I also really wish tags worked with cloud services such as Dropbox. If we could just get to where we could keep the files we choose on our iPads without any of Apple algorithms, that would be magic!

Thanks for this video. Is there a reason Files renames any folder I try to call Desktop or Documents to untitled or what ever the old folder name was. Only for these 2 names
@TechnoThornYT7 ай бұрын
I’m pretty sure it’s because on a Mac, when you allow the Desktop and Documents folders to be synced to iCloud, those names are taken. I put a space after the “Documents” text and then removed the space, that seemed to do the trick

I love using the Files app but when I'm accessing my OneDrive documents through the Files app, it will add some numbers to the back of my file names (presumably the date the file was modified). This only happens if I move documents in/out/around my OneDrive folders through the app, or if I make some edits to the documents like opening the PDF or Word files. It does not happen to the files I have stored locally or on my iCloud Drive. Anyone knows how to prevent this from happening? The only workaround I have for this is to use the OneDrive native app on iPad but I'd much rather only have to stick to one file management app.

Hi Chris, Does your iPad sometimes freeze? I now experience the frozen iPad again. My M2 iPad pro freezes when I open Lumafusion to edit some videos this morning. What I think I need to do is to restart it or charge it again even though the battery is full. Is there any other way to fix this? I searched for support from Apple in my country, but I think I should ask other users instead. Thank you in advance for any response. And thanks for your many important videos about iPad.

Using Files app on my iPad Pro M1 11" is the worst experience I have ever had... iPadOS 16 is Ok, but since I updated to iPadOSs 17, my pride drops... - Randomly freezing: Sometimes, it just freezes, can't do anything, rotating just make it glitch. Force closing the app become more frequent after 17.2, 17.3, and now 17.4.1. - File not found: Oh dear... After 17.3 update, I start getting this weird problem. All the files just disappear. "On my iPad" is no longer there. It's just like unplug an external hard drive while browsing the files. And all I can do is restart my iPad to get it back to normal (for a short time)
