Most of my notes are not notes … I take notes for work. For how-to reminders, recipes, snippets, en clippings, etc. And for introspective brain musings (usually in journal form). But the heaviest use I have for applications like these is for creative writing. Now, I prefer Joplin over Obsidian. (I used both side by side for a long time until finally I ditched Obsidian.) I write poetry, short stories, and I'm working on a novel. These notebook management applications are perfect for that. I do all of my scene-by-scene revisions in Joplin into eventually I'm forced by the publishing industry to move up Microsoft Word for the final reviewable draft. I can use Joplin to trivially share work publication as a webpage so people can critique my work. When I'm done, i just flip the switch to turn it off. Anyway. Lots of writers out there is Joplin, Logseq, and Obsidian.

A shortcut I created just the other day, without much help mind you lol is, I was wanting a shortcut/focus mode that would automatically run while I’m at church that would one, go into a “do not disturb” mode but also go into a grayscale mode and also remove certain apps from my Home Screen. My reasoning for this was to remove distractions/notifications. The do not disturb part I had done a while back but had never got around to the rest of it cause it just never crossed my mind. Then I ran across Daily Tekk’s video where he basically made his iPad Pro resemble a ReMarkable tablet and it gave me the idea. So, for me, the shortcut puts my iPad in Do Not Disturb mode, changes my Home Screen and does the Grayscale thing all at once. I know for some of y’all that would be a pretty simple shortcut to set up but onsidering this was basically my first one, I was pretty impressed with myself lol.

I have Things on my phone. The Mac OS app is an additional $50. Does it do anything that my phone won't do? Additionally, Siri support has been enable for Things, however, when asking siri to do something in Things, she doesn't have a clue

From an old fashioned comp sci perspective, what's the database technology behind these new markdown/db apps like Obsidian, LogSeq, Notion? I'm showing my rust, but I'm genuinely curious on learning more about this. Think it's changing the way I organize my "scattered-as-shit" notes! I may have joined the Church of Whatever This Is.

For anyone thinking of using an ipad pro for photo editing (lightroom) Do not buy the 8gb ram models. (256, 512 storage models) You NEED at least 16 gb of ram to do anything productive. You're paying for a 1,500 ~ 2,000 dollar editing setup My editing experience on lightroom was absolutely disgusting. I'm working with fuji raw files and my entire screen would just freeze 5 mins into working. Masking, using the brush, doing any sort of deleting/cloning will kill this device. The device uses 80% of the ram in it idle state and will max out if you open any productivity app. I would recommend checking out the macbook pro m4 pro model with 24 gb ram and a 512 ssd Its cheaper than this setup (1tb 11inch)

Unless you have an iPhone 15 or newer don’t buy this because you will have to spend a bunch of extra money to get it to work. Tell the truth! It does not work with PC either.

I'm a photographer and will use my iPad Mini for at least two situations. On the one hand, if I'm doing photojournalistic stuff and an assignment is very dynamic (e.g. a protest), then on the one hand I want to be as light as possible on the move and on the other hand I want to edit and send my pictures directly on site and on the fly. Another use case are shootings, where I like to give important people like the make-up artist a live review of my pictures so that something can be changed if necessary.

As an amateur street, portrait and landscape photographer (sometimes videos) the iPad is just the computer I end up using the most. My custom built gaming pc is pretty much only for Gaming, file storage, and Printing from Lightroom Classic. Absolutely everything else is done on my iPhone 16 Pro and ipad pro M2. It’s just so natural to use as a photographer. And it’s extremely mobile and able to share my photography immediately to people.

Honestly, for photography and light video work, I don’t think there’s anything better than an iPad Pro. It’s just great to edit photos on location, show the client, and then even airdrop them samples pretty much immediately. Very convenient. Unfortunately I cannot run the printing module from my iPad (or I haven’t even tried) but I use my Windows machine at my desktop for that. Same thing for archiving projects and photos. But I just prefer using my iPad and iOS. It’s just more comfortable and more focusing than a regular desktop computer.

The max. length for Thunderbolt 4 cables, is 2 meters. The one that comes with the Studio Display, is 1,8 meters, so 20 cm or 8" shorter.

Yottamaster TB cables are great, for what it’s worth, though of course not in the lengths that you’re after. Great video, I’ve checked out a few things you’ve mentioned - dangerous!

I had an original iPad and it finally literally wore out and would not do anything. Of course it had a couple of cracks and such … then it would not power up. So I am having fun with you guys and your personal takes on how how to find a work flow that works for you. One thing that is different for me is writing sheet music- original, arrangements of my own and teaching even some individual instruments. Having a larger writing space will be better in many ways.
