That would never happen ... Apple wants you to buy a macbook instead of using your phone/tablet as a laptop
@AWSVids3 жыл бұрын
Even though I know that Apple would probably never do this, because it would step on the toes of their laptop lines, I wish Apple would design a “Desktop Mode” into iOS. The devices that run iOS these days are so much more capable than what iOS allows them to do. The chip in my iPhone is more powerful than the one in my 2017 Macbook Pro. Yet I can’t run full desktop apps on my iPhone when connected to an external monitor? Would be really nice if I could just select “Desktop Mode” and iOS essentially turns into MacOS. Maybe some day it will happen once trends force Apple to do it, but I feel like it’s one of those things that hyper-capitalist practices will deprive us of for as long as possible. Apple doesn’t want to give you a laptop in your phone, because then it wouldn’t sell as many laptops. Same reason the iPads, even iPad Pros, are still limited by iPadOS, despite having literally the same chip as the M1 Macbooks now. For all the nice things we’re allowed to have these days… we still can’t have the REALLY nice things. 😩
@BagerGman3 жыл бұрын
You are exactly right. Ive been wanting this for ages for all devices. I was mad when sony cut display out of the psp and livid when they removed hdmi and ds3 support from the vita to not hurt console sales. I was supper excited around when Moto was doing the atrix line. As i have watched over the past 15 years companies have have played with pocketable all in one solutions and quickly backtrack. They know 85-95% of the market is basic web and productivity tasks and if you can use a phone or handheld console to do it all you wont buy more. Imagine sony with the vita, looked almost as good as the ps3 in graphics, had more built in chat and messaging systems, and games were cheaper. That system would have stripped the ps3 of sales and may have killed the ps4 as handheld gaming is huge in asia. A all in one would have been too much. Nintendo did it and became the biggest thing in asia with the switch.... Now look at big players like Apple. My 2008 first gen macbook 13 base model will still edit any word or excel document, surf the web, read email, and even watch 1080p youtube. The only thing it cant do on a base productivity basis is what got blocked out by not being able to update the OS so I lost access to some software. Because of that I got a 2017 mac air a couple years ago. Once they implement desktop on phones as an actual feature, they will almost completely lose the asia market for laptops, especially in China as I know the market here. The US will lag a few years as the old hats wont understand a phone as a computer, but once they do it will be gone there too. When this happens the only way for them to make money will be to OS version lock people to make them upgrade as I had to do with my macbook. But it will be more aggressive, maybe 5 years and then no software really works. Sorry for long reply, just wont ya said brought out the rage.

Dude what kind of iPhone do you have? That phone being more powerful in terms of cpu and gpu is definitely cool, but there’s just one issue. Anyone who wants to just watch netflix, youtube or browse the web a bit can totally do this if you own a iPhone 7 or up, you wouldn‘t need a brand new iPhone 12 just be sure to buy the original adapter from apple 😉. It‘s expensive but other adapters give you delay, won‘t charge your phone or won‘t connect properly as i used this already.
@kericsX3 жыл бұрын
Anyone maybe know a alternative without delay?
@Miguel-fm8xh3 жыл бұрын
@@kericsX I can give you a quick answer, not sure if even the original adapter gives you a delay. But i‘m pretty sure it won‘t as it‘s confirmed that the expensive lightning to hdmi adapter has a computer inside of it which has 512MB of ram. The reason I think this is so because iPhones have a USB 2.0 lightning port and it‘s not easy to translate it to HDMI…

These phones are already way more powerful than the 90's 286, 386 and 486. Those were state of the art for their time. My iPhone 12 Pro has more storage than I thought possible in the 90s. I thought 1 gig was huge. I think in the future you will be able to buy a screen and keyboard with a dock for your phone/pc/Mac. I'd like to see any and all software be available for these phone/computers sometime down the line. Have it work like a legitimate PC/Mac. Hello Sir, my biggest concern is if this setup support wired keyboard/mouse?

With the right dongle.

Can someone tell me why you would want to do this rather than getting an iPad with keyboard & mouse??
@PatrickRambles4 жыл бұрын
Hey man! That's not what I'm advocating :). I have an iPad and magic keyboard which is obviously much much better. This was just a fun little experiment. The external monitor is under 200 dollars and can be used with a ton of devices (laptop, gaming consoles, cameras, etc) and this is just something you could do with it.
@HarrisonSCook4 жыл бұрын
@@PatrickRambles No don’t get me wrong! I love that you made the video and I think you did a great job. Just asking the question .. I have the iPad Pro & Magic Keyboard as well and I love it. But I still love the content. Keep up the good work!

Thanks man, I appreciate that. Love my iPad too, big time! See you around!

What’s the smallest external monitor for iPhone? I’m looking for something for photography, almost like how some cameras have a flip out screen. Thank you! 🙂
@PatrickRambles3 жыл бұрын
Ooh. Good question. Maybe an external camera monitor, they use HDMI as well.

Does this work on iPhone xs max too? Because I’m going to swap my iphone with my friend’s Samsung s10+ exynos.
@PatrickRambles3 жыл бұрын
Should work on any iPhone, as long as it take the adapter. The Samsung has DEX on board which is obviously superior to any of this :)

Can you generally connect an iphone to a monitor, idk 32" 27" 24" via HDMI or DP and use it like a desktop computer? Also keyboard and mouse via wires. Without restrictions. For Samsung Galaxy series there's Dex which isn't all that great, netflix and hbo max doesn't work, as I read also disney+ doesn't. There are also some issues with chrome and tabs. So yeah how about the iPhone?

How will would it work in vertical mode? Also, where did you get the piece that physically holds the iPhone when it’s attached to the desktop clamp?
@PatrickRambles4 жыл бұрын
Hey Ryan, Vertical mode works well when paired with a computer. Withe the phone, landscape works better. Here is a link to the smartphone clamp I used amzn.to/37YEuEV but you can get much cheaper ones on Amazon too.

Will it work with my laptop ?? I have a HDMI TO LIGHTNING ⚡️. Finally ads on your video I will not skip them for you lol

Yes it will work with laptops. Thank you for your support always !

Apple is just incredible greedy. An iPhone could be iPad OS when plugged in to a monitor but they don't want to kneecap the iPad ("your next computer is not a computer") Heck, iPhones are getting so powerful that could run the new Big Sur. Imagine an iPhone with a "Samsung Dex" type of mode.

Exactly.

do you need to have the screen of the iphone turned on all the time? if so this is not a solution

I LOVE this concept, but could I run TurboTax or QuickBooks from a setup like this (I have an iPhone 11). I like to catch up on my business stuff when traveling and would rather pack a small monitor, keyboard & mouse vs a laptop, because I hate using laptop keyboards. Before someone says "just get used to it and use a laptop ya dummy!", I should emphasize that when I'm working on financials, I pretty much have to have a full sized keyboard with a proper numeric keypad; laptop keyboards, even the bigger ones, don't cut it for this type of work.
@PatrickRambles2 жыл бұрын
Hey there! This was a fun experiment more than anything else. A glimpse at what COULD be. Apple unfortunately doesn't seem to have any ambitions in this direction, so view this as an interesting workaround, rather than an actual business solution.

Does the battery of the iphone get charged while you're using it in this setup?

If you hook up a lightning cable to the adapter

I’m sorry, laptops are bulky compared to this laptop-sized device with a set of cables and dongle for using it? That’s not true.

With a lightning to USBC cable, can the iPhone stream video output to a monitor?

Does iOS have support for screen extension, as opposed to screen sharing? For example, say, can I have a video playing on the external display while taking a note on OneNote on the iPad?
@PatrickRambles4 жыл бұрын
iPadOS does, I don't think IOS does. But you can get a lot more functionality out of it by using the shiftscreen app.
