Rene, I enjoy your videos and reviews! Thank you for pointing out that the iPhone 12 Pro Max is really not much bigger than the iPhone 11Pro Max. In fact the difference in size is minuscule.. I’m so tired of people saying, “Oh this thing is HUGE”!” It’s not! The other thing I want to point out is that many iPhone users (regardless of phone size or model) are TWO HANDED USERS. I have owned every iPhone model since the iPhone 3G.... I have never used a single hand to operate my iPhone. There are lots, and I mean LOTS of two handed users... it’s something I take note of when watching other people use their phones.

Every year I hear tech reviewer talk about one handed functionality but at a pro max and plus size phone user, this has never concerned me. I’m mostly able to do things with one hand but when/if I can’t do something one handed, using 2 hands is second nature at this point. People who are buying plus sized phones I think already know this. I don’t think there’s anybody out there who wants to know if you can use these phones one handed. They either get the smaller-mid sized phones because they just don’t want a big phone in their pocket or they do. Even when plus sized phones first started coming out for Apple at the 6 plus. I guess back then it would’ve been nice to know but for the most part over the past 4 or 5 years, phones have kept the same form factor.

I still use and like the iphone 6s plus inspite of the upgrades coming all these years. It has a sleek thin design and has a button at the bottom, to get the feel. It has large screen, the camera is good, has long life battery. I do like the iphone12 pro max, due to similar large screen size , the new pacific blue color and the 5G network, but you need to ask yourself a question, DO YOU REALLY NEED THE UPGRADE against your previous upgrade by spending 1000$ if the previous one is pretty good enough ? Upgrades always come in future years be it a smartphone, TV or a car. If you really need the upgrade then ONLY one should consider buying it. I am surprised the iphone 12 or iphone 12 pro does not come with ear pods or a charger. But nevertheless if one really needs an upgrade then should go for it, otherwise previous upgrades are also quite good.

Second, everyone can decide for themselves about the size, the extra $100 gets you as close to a "value" upgrade as you're every gonna see from Apple. I went with the reg Pro because I'm tired of the size, weight, lack of pocketability, and constant 2 handed operation of bigger phones. I'm done - plus, Apple could do a MUCH better job of utilizing screen space. You don't get anywhere near as much additional information considering how huge the phone is.

My main concern was the size. There is simply no way to interpret the scale without holding the items in one's hand. Rene, could you do a video that explains the big problem so many of us are having with using Dolby vision on our iPhone 12s? Here’s the confusion, and there are several points of confusion: 1. If we film in Dolby, edit it properly in FCPX, export it as a master file, and upload the master to KZbin, have not we just lost the Dolby quality since KZbin probably converts it to HDR10? 2. If we want to film in HDR and not Dolby, how do we do that in settings on the iPhone 12 Pro Max since shutting off HDR (the Dolby option?) puts you back in SDR? 3. What if I want to shoot in HDR, 1080p, 30 fps, but not Dolby? If I shut off Dolby, doesn’t that put me in the dreaded SDR? Help please.

That size is too big. It’s like a ridiculous brick. If you have an ipad and other multimedia devices I find perfect a 6,1 inches display (normal 12 pro). It’s big enough and confortable to use. At the end it’s a mobile phone and it must be “mobile”. Battery it’s not an issue if you have at least 25-30% at the end of the day (normal 12 pro). I don’t mind if pro-max has 40% at night because anyway I will charge the phone at night in Order to start with 100% battery in the morning

For me, I’m currently on an iPhone X. I came from an iPhone 4 / Nokia Lumina something something/ Sony erricson phones, I probably had in the span of two years, 3 phones, and there was a period where I had my phones stolen from me. And once again, I had the iPhone 4 passed over to me. To it’s credit* it felt great in the hand, had a pretty alright screen, small petite by today’s standards, and certainly what I ended up on. But the fact I lost my £20, everything ‘pay and go’ I was giving to gif gaff, i mean literally unlimited everything including data. Plan, as they changed the tariff and no longer supported it, I was kinda miffed. Spoke to my sister, she then went... ‘why don’t you try a contract phone?’ ‘Just one’ go with it. In two years, it’s yours. So we were messaging back and forth, and this is before I actually ‘looked into it’ specs, before I looked into basically anything. 2018, feb. I then said I dono to Samsung, I ‘heard they make good phones’ but, I had no issues with the iPhone 4. Minus app incompatibility now, with no hotspot option. Something I actually use/need. I actually said, I’d like the IPhone 4, but a ‘better’ quality version of it. One that literally as minimal upgrades, because I don’t talk to friends ‘often’ I’m not calling/texting them often. I’m studying, I’m watching KZbin, so sound and video are important to me. But, I was in the phase of contemplating retrying KZbin. And I thought, I could do with a pretty good camera... ‘all in one’ ‘nice’ As for my contract ending, the people I had put the contract in with, literally called me a few days ago and said hey, Black Friday deal is on, would you like a new phone, no exit fees and you can have it within a week. Essentially ‘ending’ my contract now and starting a new one. I then said, the only phone I have considered ‘upgrading to’ was the 12. Someone asked me if I considered the 11, and I said yeah. But only for that front facing camera. That’s not a good enough reason for me. Anyway, I worked out a deal I wanted, I believe technically, I’m not going to be on a 2 year contract, it’s a 2 year + 1 month contract by the time I get my new phone, One thing I am adiment on, phones are not meant to be upgrade every year, but contracts almost make it a thing... I originally was going to wait until mine ended, then start looking. And given I’m never away from WiFi, and can have WiFi calling, ‘what’s a regular call again?’ Maybe freestyle WiFi jumping or just get a low-key pay and go sim. Instead, I renewed for another 2 years, good bye to my X (I did a video on it, and now I say goodbye for it’s a present for my mom now) What’s an attractive prospect upon reflecting. My mom has a 6S, she’s getting a larger battery (‘but it’s currently at 85%health) an OLED panel. A faster phone a more capable phone, she doesn’t do games, doesn’t push the boundaries at all. It will feel no different. But the camera is a step up. And definitely with wireless charging capabilities, that has me excited, I might be able to convince my parents to buy some extra wireless chargers so we have at least one on each side for people to use instead of always trying to find ‘that one cable’ For me, I get ‘the same benefits’ she’s getting, except newer. iPhone 12 Pro Max. That excites me a bit. Because if I FaceTime my mom, she will look better, she can use the Animoji’s, she probably won’t, but she can, my only complaint will be, I know the phone isn’t ‘required’ to be upgraded just yet, but I’m happy with it. And right now I’m in that moment of, is the pro max ‘too big’ for me, in videos it doesn’t look too much bigger, weight is a ‘no dice’ situation, it’s weird because before, I didn’t care I just wanted a newer phone with the hotspot. Now, I want one with the best camera that’s reasonable. But it stems from just, iPhone 4. I had two of them. And just making ‘good products’ can sell newer products, I don’t think anyone can deny that.

I forgot to add one thing, I am looking into starting my own game design, and that lidar scanner, whilst I brushed it off on the newer iPad Pro’s, (Cos, I bought 2018’s one like two weeks before they ‘announced it?’ ) - I believe there’s a method way for me to use it within the part of my game development. So, that’s a feature I don’t hugely care about. Yet, I might actually care about it for what it can mean it enables me to do within my creative process.

Rene is in Canada prices vary by country for import taxes, taxes, exchange rate. Usually after converting from your country back to USD it’s offset by a marginal amount. Years ago I compared Australia, Singapore, and USA converted all to USD and it was about $20 and $40 dollars different. Might be because of import taxes and which port they shipped to. Like when your checking flights to the same country but different cities the price is different.

Brilliant! So glad to see the comparison with 8+! Pro Max is coming Friday and I’ve been second guessing it since I ordered it, for me I love the size of the 8+, had it since launch and now it gets a new battery and gets handed down to my eldest for his birthday and his 6s will get a new battery and go down to the youngest for Christmas! I love being able to keep recycling them this way, the kids are excited to get a ‘new’ phone but they also know that they are used and hopefully giving them an appreciation of money/value and not ‘needing’ the newest things like some of their friends that get the latest phone only to smash or lose it! We also do this with iPads and tend to upgrade iPhones/iPads roughly every 3 years so I feel we get real value from them by the time they go through us, the kids and then if they are still good they go to younger nephews or grandparents, grandad is still rocking my old iPad mini 2 that I replaced the screen on for his emails and kitchen tv!

Couple of errors. 1) The memory / cost table showed the 64/128/256 for all 4 iPhone 12 models when it should be 128/256/512 for pro models. 2) Comparing battery life to iPhone 12 pro you say you’re consistently getting less with the iPhone 12 pro max, where I think you mean 12 pro? Hey.....you got a hugely impressive review out in no time at all, which is fantastic. I’ve never had a max before, last phone was iPhone 11.......looking forward to seeing if I can handle a big one this Friday when my 128 blue arrives. Thanks 👌

I enjoy the videos. You really do go into detail, the only thing I would say is you sound a little robotic recently as if you are directly reading your review. I would appreciate it if your reviews were a little more relaxed.

I would have liked to have the better camera on the Pro Max, but it’s just too big for me. I’m really loving my 12 Pro Pacific Blue, perfect size for me.

Man apple just keeps on disappointing. If they put a bigger battery in the max and put 120hz refresh rate and a quad HD display it would be the greatest phone on the planet.

The camera performance in the pics you have provided are almost no different than the 12 Pro. Can you show clear examples where the Max vins? It seems like you want the Max photos to be better because Apple said so when it is clear from the samples that it is not better in any meaningful way and in some shots not better at all.

Based on your experience so far, do you think its worth shooting in 10 bit all of the time and working with the color for daily youtube uploading? Or does the benefit not really outweigh the file size/time needed to work with the color?
