Of course that a real camera is always better, even if we are talking about the Note 20 Ultra. The idea is to not have to carry a 500g bulky DSLR camera with you ALL the time. Each setup (smartphone vs cheap smarphone+cam) has it pros and cons.

The idea of this phones is not to BE an actual DSLR, but to have a good camera ALL the time in YOUR POCKET, and be useful for the majority of population, if you are a photographer pro/amateur/hobby then of course doesnt matter we are talking about any phone brand, you will get a DSLR, there's no replacement. And about the 11Pro/Note image quality opinion, well...it's your opinion.

Thank you. I actually shot 3x the photos and 10x the video but didn’t want it to be too long so threw away a bunch if the results were the same as others. Yea the XS does sound better than the newer ones.. It seemed like it does less audio de noising which makes it sound better unless there’s lots of background noise.

I swapped my xs max for the 12 pro...I’m really enjoying how portable and good it feels in the hand compared to the xs Max and the screen is smaller but due to smaller bezels it’s still plenty big for video and photo consumption (i have smaller hands so the trade off is well worth it.) My Face ID was busted, speakers blown, and back glass cracked on the xs max if it wasn’t for those things I agree the xs max still felt very advanced even after 2 years

I thought to myself, "how many pictures do I really take in a day with my iPhone?" The daylight pictures are sufficient for me. The overall experience with my XS max has been amazing especially since iOS 14. We will see next year though.

That's not what I'm seeing. The 11 and 12 render way more fine detail than the XS in daytime shots. You can see that in all of the face shots and the cityscape shots with the details in the buildings.

See, I'm already seeing this on my iPhone 11 Pro Max. The camera quality is SOOOOOO inconsistent as of iOS 14. It was not this bad in iOS 13 on my iPhone. There are literal times when the sharpening is turned up to all hell and it makes it feel like I'm using an Android camera. It literally feels like the quality of the photo drops by doing that.

Something that i noticed, on minute 3:48, the iPhone Xs is not using the telephoto lens, its using the wide angle lens and its digitally zooming in on the photo, that is why its looks bad and its so shaky, my guess is that the phone is not using the telephoto lens because the f stop is 2.4 which lets less light into the sensor so the ISP thought that the image would look better if it used the main camera. But on minute 3:56 the iPhone Xs does use the telephoto lens, that is why it looks way better than the video on minute 3:48

@@cricitta well no, not at all. Tele and wide (1x) have bigger aperture so more light can come in, that's why there's so much improvement on low light photos. On daylight i agree there's no diff, but on more complicated scenes the improvement on hardware IS there. Night mode i agree is only soft, but as you can see even the better sensor of the 12 pro improves a bit on this condition over the 11 pro.

I doubt it, just take a look at 5:14 and tell me who's better? I'd take the 11 pro anyday. iPhone 12 is litteral garbage compare to the 11 by picture quality and aesthetics.

The 12 Pro isn't the best camera system on a phone that Apple offers but still is an excellent camera system and it will improve over the updates for a year.

I am not into upgrading phones every year or even two. I have 8 Plus, it served me very well and still. I don’t have and never had any problem with it. But now 99.99% of the reason I am upgrading to 12 Pro Max for the camera specially for low light capability. Then next time I upgrade will be after three years. I believe the camera on the 12 pro max will still be good after three years. Thanks for the good review.

Unless you take dark scene images in wide angle often, it’s certainly not worth the upgrade from the 11 Pro for the camera alone. Upgrade from XS is a no brainer.

First let me say thank you for the great work! Do you have any info to share on the iPhone 12 pro / 12 vs the XS? (Processor, battery, download speeds etc. Like you did on the 12 vs 12 Pro video). I have the XS and trying to decide if I want to upgrade or not. I know you have the 11 vs 12 content, but I wonder if many of your viewers are still on the XS or even an older model. Thanks!

The Xs is actually much better as value than the 11 pro. And the 12 pro is nice but still feel that I wouldn’t change the Xs for the 12 pro. Maybe next year let’s see.

Agreed! Still a great phone no question I love it, Just that damn battery! Mine is at 90% health but feels worse. I will be getting the battery replaced by apple at some point, Be interesting to see what I will get out of it. I've had this thing since launch on IOS 12 and I used to get though a whole day easily up until towards the end of 13, And since 14 it's been rubbish lol

a few days ago i was on a beach at midnight with full cloud and an impending heavy storm. my 11pro hand held shot pictures with a lot of noise but somehow with no light captured the white curl of the waves, sand colour and cloud. i am very curious to see the 12pro in close to zero light, or my favourite when showing others - shooting a shot under the couch.

for near pitch black, the 12 pros wider aperture will be a lot better over 11 pros. but if you're looking for much better low light photography, the max's much larger sensor will improve it a lot more.

This video is super helpful!! The only feedback is that it would be better is uploaded in 4K because at 1080p I feel like you are seeing more details than we are able to see. But, again, this video is extremely helpful nonetheless!

if you're buying an iphone *only* for its camera buy the pro max, but thats only if you want the best of the best. you'll be happy with the normal 12 too! Hope you enjoy it if you decide to buy it!

The Lidar sensor really helps in focusing when its dark.. Also it helps so much at portrait shots.. I guess ill be going 12 pro then..
