This feels like the tidiest iPhone lineup in a long time. There's finally a clear, functional separation between the regular and Pro models. We're seeing far fewer takes from reviewers saying "the Pro is really just a slightly nicer screen and a telephoto lens". The differences have really piled up this time in ways that "pros" or advanced users can actually appreciate, and more casual users can easily opt out of without feeling like they're missing out. Be it that extra bit of graphical oomph and a bigger/higher refresh rate screen for gaming, or an objectively more capable and enthusiast oriented camera system, or godly amounts of battery life in the Max, or more storage than my laptop has... "Pro" feels like it means something more this time.

What is a PRO user in case of a phone? Im really courious, because, I feel like other than the 120hz screen and the cameras, theres no difference really (Brightness at this point is beyond enough). "Pro" photographers / videohraphers? Still much better quality with a camera than a phone. The 120hz screen is a great touch, but doesn't woth $300. What they are doing with the 13 is they want u to feel like ur behind if u dont buy the Pro version.

The one minor inconvenience of the slightly taller notch is when watching videos with a 2:1 aspect ratio. Those videos fit perfectly on the older iPhones, but they get slightly cut off by the notch in the 13 series.

Perhaps that’s an incentive for the 13 Pro Max as it doesn’t have this issue. Although I really have to look for it on my 13 Pro and may have not noticed if it hadn’t been pointed out. Doesn’t bother me at all.

One thing to note, even on the iPhone 12, is that the screen’s rounded corners bleed into the edges of a 2:1 video as well. Although it is less noticeable on the 12 than the notch on the 13. Hopefully it’s addressed in a future software update.

I am still using an iPhone 7. I just feel like smart phones stopped being exciting and compelling pieces of technology a long time ago. Now they're just mundane and overpriced. The only things that really annoy me about the iPhone 7 are the Touch ID and the lightning port. The Touch ID doesn't recognize my fingerprint half the time and the lightning port is really prone to wearing out over time so that the charger falls out with the slightest bump, which is super annoying. It's good that the newer phones have Face ID and Apple seems to have improved the Touch ID on the laptops, but I'm still waiting for them to put a better port on the phones. Maybe then I would consider upgrading.

I should also add that I totally get why some other people get excited over them. The fact that iPhones are computers that we carry around in our pockets that are more powerful than a lot of desktop computers is technologically impressive. They are pocket-sized laptops with the price tag of a laptop to boot. If what you do on a daily basis can take advantage of that mobile computational power, then that's amazing. But that isn't the case for me. Maybe I just don't know what I'm missing out on. Who knows.

The 120hz screen alone was enough of a sell for me to get the iPhone 13 Pro. I usually sit in front of a 144hz computer monitor so when given the chance to get similar refresh rates on my phone, I jumped at the chance.

I also sit in front of a 165 hz monitor and feel completely opposite. I don’t need 120 to scroll through emails, respond to a txt or like a social media post. All those screens are mostly stagnant. I don’t do anything intensive on a phone to warrant 120 hz. Scrolling at 120 sure is smother but not really worth it for cell phone use . Also the camera on the pro looks like googly eyes. Looks tacky and cheap to me and stick out way too far.

There is absolutely no reason for me to go with Pro features that I never use. I would suspect that most folks are in the same boat, but buy the Pro anyway. I only use my phone for phone stuff. Calls, texts, email and a few apps like banking, fitness, maps, weather, etc. I never watch any videos or play any games. I also only do point and shoot pictures. So the 13 is really more phone than I actually need.

Apparently the oled displays flickers at a rapid speed, you normally don’t see it with the human eye, but apparently it causes some people to have eye strain and headaches. I bought the 13 and had to go back to my iPhone 11 because of those side effects. But lately I’ve been playing around with the 13 again, and it seems like the effects aren’t as bad as they used to be , but not completely sure if it’s going to go away or come back.

I think the 6.1” regular 13 would be more recommended if Apple wasn’t charging an extra $30 for an unlocked version, but doesn’t on the Pro models. That makes the difference between the 6.1” models only $170. At that point, you mind as well just buy the Pro, if you don’t want the mini. The extra charge is ridiculous to begin with, and they are clearly trying to force customers to spend the extra on the Pro. Otherwise, they’d charge the $30 unlocked premium on the Pro models as well.

Lovely little device but I just couldn’t let the power user in me go, and the mini was rarely carrying me until noon. They do offer 120hz? The oled design is set up to adjust the refresh rate depending on what you’re using. And the notch was actually reduced in size

It has been a very long time since I used my smart phone as my primary computer. Now my 10.5” iPad Pro personalized with my name and address etched in rose gold, propped in a beautiful purple leather Zugu case, running on every new iOS-14 software update until I feel 100% certain any iOS-15 software import if I choose to accept it will be glitch-free: the iPad Pro is my primary computer. I will probably upgrade from a badly broken $60.00 LG Android phone, its speakers completely blown, its glass completely dislodged from its bezel, to an iPhone 13 Mini just as soon as every iOS-15 software glitch is resolved, and even if I have to wait 6-9 months to buy the iPhone 13 Mini. All else being equal, I’d always opt for the phone with a telephoto lens. Longer battery life is great. More backpacking trips where a 10mAh power bank is enough but it’s the telephoto which really matters. I’m sure I’ll enjoy the macro too but x3 is calling. X2 has never quite been enough for situations where I can’t zoom by walking. E.g. the stunning sea cliffs we have round here.

Pros are worth getting. They’ll last much longer if your plan is to keep the phone as long as possible before needing to upgrade. Before I had the 12 Pro, I had the 7. That phone was just barley chugging along with how much I pushed it. When I upgraded, my 12 pro was handling tasks like a champ.

I have been using Pro Max for over a day 😂 and I love it. I needed a bigger screen than my old X. Its heavy, it is huge but I love it. Its fast, the display is fantastic (got iPad Pro). The camera is really good. I know a day of usage is not enough to form a proper opinion, but at the moment I think and believe that this huge phone absolutely worths every cent.

13 Pro 77mm 3rd lens is the decision maker to me. The tele was already the decision maker for my current 7 Plus, but I still think it’s too big for a phone.

the telephoto cameras on iphones are not that good. the wide/ultra wide this year are excellent, but telephoto pictures are mediocre at best.
