Flossy, I’ve ordered a 14 Pro Max, because I’m upgrading from an XS Max. Huge upgrade from my perspective. I don’t think anybody should be upgrading just for the dynamic island. In fact, nobody who has a 12 series or later should be upgrading, in my opinion. I’m from the UK, and prices have significantly increased, which is even more reason to not upgrade if you don’t absolutely need to.

@@AK-nj7wj It depends what you need the phone for and how you interact with other devices. I’m an Apple user, and I’ll be upgrading to an M2 MacBook Air next week. 14 Pro Max at the end of the month. Apple devices work well together, the experience is excellent. If you don’t have a Mac computer and/or you don’t plan on getting one, go for android phones. Pixel and Galaxy series are the only android phones worth something these days. Competitors like Sony and HTC have fallen off. But I’m team iPhone.

Also upgrading from a XS Max. I waited all this time to get to a point where I feel like I need a new phone and I think that’s probably the best way to go about unless you are a tech reviewer or you use material things to flex. But we are at a point where buying a phone is like buying a new household appliances or getting a new car. You literally don’t need the latest one every year unless your current device/car or appliance is broken or stolen.

I've been using iPhone since the 3GS came out, switched to a few androids in between but made me instantly regret my decision as androids weren't so refined back then except sony xperia series, used all models till the iphone 12 pro. Switched to s21 ultra for a change and I've been enjoying this beast since then. This is going to be my main phone and I feel iphone is a great option as a side phone.

@Galaxy Life as I said earlier androids were kinda trash, s7 had lagging and battery issues. But now it has been completely changed, I feel this S21 ultra is way smoother and fast than 12pro maybe due to it's higher refresh rate. Try going with the S22 Ultra or a used Note 20 U/ S21 U if you're getting a good deal.

I always had Nexus/Pixel then switched up a iPhone 11 Pro ... Didn't like it until Google allowed pip on KZbin. Also have an S21, and IMO anyone that lives in one ecosystem or the other is really missing out. If I'm watching KZbin or multitasking, like when I wanna watch a video and catch up on some work, Android is superior. If I'm taking video or just normal calling/texting, I prefer iOS. I'd like up check out the Fold next!

Before buying the s22u I thought the s-pen was a cool feature which I would maybe use sometimes to draw with or take a couple of notes every now and then. However, for the past 7 months it has really been growing on me and it's a really important feature for me now and my life without it would definitely be harder.

Hard-core Samsung knight here, I've used the iPhone as my side piece for a few years now. I just got the iPhone 14 Pro Max and I have to be 100% honest here... For the first time, I'm making the iPhone my main phone and the S22 Ultra is slipping to side status. I think with ios16, iPhone now has enough customization to keep me happy and I love dynamic island. With the addition of always on display and better widget support, it has tipped me over. Nothing will ever beat the S pen, but I find myself using it less and less. Samsung made a big mistake in taking it away for a year, I learned to live without it. iPhone needs to ditch the lightening cable and get better with customization, but they are definitely getting there. Never thought I'd be rocking an iPhone as my main, but here are..

I upgraded my iPhone 12 to the iPhone 14 pro. Would of gotten the 14 pro max, but it’s too big for me. Also I do love the dynamic island and the 120 hz display, always on, and the cameras, the one is too glitchy at this moment and the battery drains a lot faster. I’ve been getting the phone to heat up a lot, but not like every time. It’s a great phone, but Apple needs to fix these problems with an iOS update to better control the optimization for the battery and for the news features. So happy you finally posted the video, and can’t wait to see what your experience was

You really made me miss android with this one lol. I switched to Apple a year ago and I still hate not having the fingerprint lock option, the Picture in Picture doesn’t work with enough apps and it killed me for a long time not to have enough customization options, mainly with the Home Screen cause I like a completely app free Home Screen just keep it slick. They are great but battery on my iphone and s22 ultra is better. I'd still recommend though especially flex mode for watching videos is a game changer no longer need a kickstand

Picked up the 14 pro max for myself and used the promo code with T Mobile to get my mom the 14 Plus (she just needs a big screen and not all the features). We are doing exactly like you mentioned , trying something new after being Samsung galaxy users pretty much since the beginning. Going from an 11 Pro Max to a 14 Pro Max was worth it to me for 5g at a minimum. My wife is going from an iPhone 8 Plus to a 14 Pro Max, which is a 100% definite upgrade! I agree with the fact there should be a finger print sensor somewhere on the phone.

Apple needs step everything up! For $1600 Apple should throw a charger in the box and some AirPod Pro 2s. I’m 100% with you on that. Them saying they’re trying to save the environment is complete BS! They just saving money on packaging and over charging for a 20 watt block charger. I can buy a VERY small 20 watt block charger from Spigen or Anker for less than $20. I’m an Apple guy but they just make it hard to want to keep buying their products. I might try a Samsung one day but I’m just not a big fan of the Android phones. I use to have one and it was a piece of crap. Now granted it was no Samsung but still.

Verizon gave me $800 for my 12 and I still regret the 14 Pro Max. I’ve had a ton of issues getting the camera to take good pictures. Dynamic Island a cool novelty but isn’t utilized by enough apps to really change how i interact with the phone.

I fully agree with switching things up. I've been alternating between Android phones and iPhones since forever. I got the iPhone 14 pro max coming from OnePlus 7 pro. I have to say that I'm really enjoying it especially since my last iPhone was the 6s. I do miss some of the extra customization that android phones offer, but I'm really enjoying the 14 pro max and have nothing to complain about. I really love the flat display and the look + feel of the entire phone.

That is my issue with Samsung. The curve glass. Yeah the S8 started the trend and it was cool, at first. Now, I have moved from a S21 ultra to a IP 14 Pro max and I won’t look back. The flat screen and simplicity is great. The seamless look and feel to iPhone beats Samsung for me now. This phone has upgraded my day to day phone use. Your points are valid and great !

On the eSIM, you’re spot on again, Floss. Along with what you said, when you go overseas, all overseas carriers don’t do eSIM. If they do, they want you to be on their regular plans and not a prepaid plan. If I get an iPhone 14, will get it from the UK.

Excellent review flossy. I also wait for flossy’s unbiased review unlike most mainstream tech reviewers. I currently rock the iPhone 14 pro max and the S22 Ultra and I do prefer my S22U most of the time. I love it’s wider display compared the iPhone 14 pro max especially for media consumption. It’s great advice to tell people to try other phones other than iPhones which do seem to get more boring every year.

Yeah but when you’re heavily invested into a particular eco system ( and have been for years) it’s not that easy to just swap out one for the other… plus it’s not just about the phone, although i think the S22 is decent, Its about the platform… and i personally I just prefer iOS over android.

I love the fact that you think people should have two phones! I work in phone industry and repair phones but I personally think Samsungs are meant more for business and IPhones are meant more for camera and social media. I switch back and forth but I personally hate the cameras on Samsungs. I always end up missing my iPhone camera when I go to Samsung but I do love how much I am able to customize on a Samsung.

I do like both Apple and Android phones, and used to flip back and forth, but since I think the 10 I’ve been with Apple phones and the main reason is the updates. It used to drive me crazy waiting and wondering when I was going to get the latest version on Android. But Apple is all over it, and they give it to everyone at the same time, plus they keep updating their phones until the old hardware just can’t take it anymore. I got me a Sky Blue S22 Ultra back in March and received the Deep Purple 14 Pro Max a few days ago. I wouldn't let go of neither, since both have their superiorities. I got my niece a Sierra Blue 13 Pro Max last year for her 16th b-day. I feel no need to upgrade it to the new one. She's a casual user and wouldn't take advantage nor care about the upgraded specs. I mean, I'm a hobbyist photographer and videographer and honestly wouldn't feel FOMO if I had the 13 Pro Max. The performance and camera differences are so minimal. I'd wait for the 2024 model.

I 100% agree on the fingerprint sensor gripe. Android has had under-display fingerprint sensors for years. No excuse. I HATE Face ID.

The color thing is more nontrivial than people realize. Apple is trying to color their metal on the pro devices which is a hell of a lot harder than coloring some plastic since you can’t just dye metal. My college roommate worked on the Apple materials team this last year and he spent 6 months doing analysis on how to color metals and long story short it’s hard No excuses though I wish they could get it together and offer variety like android does

I’m absolutely loving my 14 Purple Pro Max and I’m having so much fun with it. The screen makes it so much better to use the camera because you can see everything so clear in the sunlight and get great lighting on your picture. Loving the new notification system and finally an Immersive experience. Loving the New Color as well with my ink leather case. I upgraded from the Alpine Green 13 Pro Max, and I never thought I would with how much I loved that phone. I don’t regret anything. Battery could most definitely be better like the 13 pro max but that’s the only flaw and IOS 16.0.3 is working great on mine. Very happy this go around. You have to remember, every time you do a trade in and upgrade, your trade in value stays the same for next year, rather than going down by 100-200 dollars. That’s one of the main reason I always do Apple trade in and upgrade, so I can get the newest iPhone as cheap as possible every time it comes out.
