Hey Chaps! This was SUCH a tough call - S22 better for photos, iPhone for video maybe?? UPDATE 1: the text is reversed at 00:15 for the cinematic video, iPhone is 4k, s22 is 1080p UPDATE 2: It’s okay to disagree with me - these videos are more about helping you make a decision. I’m just giving my 2 cents 😊

Great video as usual! 😊 But I dont agree that iphone handles skin tones better. I literally compared ur skin tone in ur own video and the pictures from iphone 14 and s22. S22 pictures are more close to ur skin tone referred from ur video. Skin tone from iPhone is orangy and yellowish...

Forget all this Samsung vs Apple crap. in my opinion, all the flagship phones are pretty fantastic. All you need to decide is if you want to be on Android or iOS (Mac OS etc). The advantages on both sides are robust and the shortcomings are also equally there. For eg.: Apple Ecosystem is pretty expensive to maintain, but everything works seamlessly with updates to almost everything for at least 6-7 years (give or take), even for OS. On the Android side, you have so many options that your prices can vary from peanuts to things that are more expensive than even the apple ecosystem. Things might not work as seamlessly as on Apple, but you have way too many options to make it work the way you want to. Apple locks you in, Android lets you choose what you like to do. Once you decide which side you want to be on, its easy to set your home and your life according to it.

Sorry, but as someone who is also living in the UK... I can't understand how you prefer the iPhone shots? There is a yellow hazing over the entirety of the day shots that is jus not true to life, or looks good! It does win video, as it always has, sure. But its not that far ahead of Samsung... But that video at the start! The blur around you on the iPhone video was so bad, the Samsung portrait video was so much more natural. I know it's subjective, but your reasoning for the iPhone jus doesn't make sense, if you prefer true to life.

Thank you for the comparison, it was very informative. One note from a hobby-photographer point of view--when reviewing the still shots, particularly outdoors, a little bit of clipping, and some detail lost to shadows is not always a bad thing. This can be preferable to a scene with more detail, because the extra detail has been artificially extracted through exposure adjustments that come at the cost of contrast. When comparing specs, we often get caught up in pixels, zoom, focus, and other measurable detail, but contrast is really important to a good photo. Several of the iPhone photos you deemed superior come out looking a bit flat next to the Samsung (ironically, a classic Samsung issue only a few generations back). If you only pay attention to contrast while rewatching the video, I think you will see what I mean. I prefer the Samsung outside, for zoom, and in most of the bokeh shots. The iPhone is better in video, and indoors the lighting is better, so I'm not really sure which I prefer at the end.

in real life most normal consumers will still add a little contrast for images to pop. i have the s22 ultra coming from pixel phone. as much as i'm already happy with the color of sooc i just realized that when looking at different phone, it makes me always want to edit the contrast a little cause although the colors on the s22u almost looked perfect but it's the samsung's vivid display that makes the colors alive. If in this test i see the iphone's colors a little less contrasty to the samsung then i still prefer samsung over apple for most shots even if it's 7months older. not to mention the blueish tint similar to pixel phones that s22u makes is more appealing at least for me.

I want Apple to do more work on their potrait mode and telephoto camera .This is the camera and mode that people use the most and loves to use .So improving that will be amazing and I really don’t understand why Apple isn’t using the lidar sensor for portrait mode .It’s been three years since they introduced the lidar sensor but still they are not using it to improve the edge direction and depth mapping while taking portrait mode photos or cinematic video

@@hridoyabdullah5133 I feel you because I use it a lot too, the thing is people who use the telephoto are most likely photographers/beginners. Like the other comment said, most people don't even know what "telephoto" is or what it does, they just see "2x/3x" in the camera app
@lincolntse4330

Obviously they are already using the lidar sensor for it, but if you understand how the sensor works, you will know it's not that simple for edge detection. The lidar infrared sensor is just projecting a dot matrix which has a lot of gap in between, so it's just giving the camera a rough idea of the distance of certain points in the picture. For edge detection they need machine learning algorithms to do image segmentation on all the edges and lidar is only a hint for it because it's just a very low resolution info.

Great video! I found that I was prefering different phones in different lighting conditions. I still find the iPhone a bit too flat and matt for my tastes, but the Galaxy is a bit too far the other way and is a bit crunchy at times. Can you do the same test but with the iPhone against the king of Android cameras, the Pixel? Maybe the 7Pro when it comes out in a few weeks?

I'm struggling really hard. I think for me, the S22 ultra is the better deal, since I can get it for ~500€ less than the 14 pro max. However, photo and video quality of the IPhone is way more appealing for my personal taste compared to the S22 and that's a very important factor for me. Then on the other hand, I absolutely dislike the dynamic island notch from the apple...Soooo none of the competitors fits my expectations completely 😕

I think warmer color scheme of the iPhone and its slightly softer contrast is better than the Samsung. I do like that the Samsung has a telescope lens for its sharper images. Using the iPhone editing tools can adjust a photo to suit your style. I have learned it is best to edit on the iPhone before editing on the computer, more detail and fewer artifacts are the result. I appreciate your effort in making this comparison video.

As far as I can tell, S22 is more truth to life (although to much contrast) but no one in social media wants it, they want to look better and that is what Apple do with it's processing. Sure, you can edit, but who wants to edit?

Nice comparison, I'd go s22 ultra all the way, there's much more features in s22 ultra that hasn't been mentioned, which can enhance the quality of the pictures significantly, such as details enhancer also for shooting videos there's a huge difference when you shoot with 8k. There's no way for any phone to get as good as the s22 ultra cameras, also the iPhone 14 pro max latest feature that mainly made a lot of people wanna upgrade from iPhone 13 to 14 Is the action mode, which is already there in the s22 ultra (super steady mode). And with the recent software updates for the Samsung it's just impossible for the iPhone to compete now...

I'm disappointed by the 14 Pro main camera quality. The ultimate problem is the post-process Apple uses. The result is uncomfortably sharp for my taste. To the point that it looks ridiculous in most situations (after you took a picture the image processing takes a while so you're able to see an unprocessed photo for a split second - and it genuenly looks better!). My old XS shoots pictures with less detail but the overall atmosphere and feel are more natural. 48Mpx RAWs are great though. I hope Apple will release an update for regular HEIF pictures..

Great video. It's interesting, in most cases I find Galaxy's way overprocessed and unnatural, but most photos you took.. yeah, I can kind of see why the Galaxy would be more pleasing. It's basically just doing the legwork for you, that little extra pop that you'd probably add after anyway. And if you don't like it, you can use the RAW app and edit them afterwards instead.

Since i like cooler pictures and not warm pictures, i'll go with the S22U purely because of the cooler tones which yeah i know i can just edit them to make them warmer/cooler depending on which phone i had but still, a cooler tone is best for me. Plus i like a bit of depth and saturation/vibrancy/contrast in my pics which that means it's the S22U because with the iPhone it just looked plain and didn't have any life into it. With the iphone, idk why but the yellowish tint on the pics puts me off, it's like you edited the photo and made it yellow yourself lol which i know you didn't do but you get me

The funny thing is all tech reviewers rave about the iPhone and yet it never wins the mkbhd blind camera test.
