Well you are right. The only think I really care about is the price divided the time in use without any problems. If the number is consistent and acceptable I would buy something from Apple again. If the phones are irreparable and last only about 1-2 years then I'd move away from Apple or bought decent used ones for lowered price.

Any other repairs were prohibited from the authorized partners and had to be done at Apple directly. And Apple Store policy doesn't allow the logic board and alot of other parts to be repaired.... They tell your only option is to trade in and buy a new phone or leave as is. They still have the secret program that enables all repairs though they don't allow customers devices to be repaired like that. I was a real Apple fanboy back in the 80s and 90s, from pre OS6 days right up to OSX, but I switched away from their products right after the introduction of OS10.2. I haven't purchased a single Apple product since, and that includes iPhones, iPads, and all the rest. After seeing this, I remain confident that my decision was a good one for me. I like to think that the customer should always come first, and being able to repair your own gear is something I consider a critically important feature, especially when the replacement costs are so high.

@yukonchris
@yukonchris Жыл бұрын
@@crazyidiot5309 I don't think there was any one straw, but several. Apple's claim to compatibility was one, especially when third party software made specifically for the Mac OS would often break after a major OS update. That told me that even compatibility within the ecosystem was questionable. Another was watching what happened to some of the independent software makers who had committed to building applications for the Mac OS. One I remember particularly was Watson or Sherlock or something like that. Finally, is was the "cult" of Mac. After a time, I realized that adherents, myself included, were treating a corporation a bit like a religion--anything they did was awesome, even when it wasn't. Critical thinking had been shelved.. Once I ditched Apple, I just owned a computer and got things done. Also, weirdly, I found that software on the PC actually continued to work, for the most part, over multiple iterations of the OS.

Funny enough about all these repair tech channels they push the narrative that Apple are anti repair. When myself being a phone repair technician. I can say that iPhone are way easier than Androids. 1. The flagship android phones are extremely expensive to get replacement parts. They range from 300-700 for a screen. Compared to Apple parts that are 70-200. 2. Apple is easier to fix, when you need to swap a screen. All you need to do is replace the screen and move the proximity sensor.. With Android you literally have to take apart the entire phone and put it in a new frame. This runs the risk of parts like volume button, speaker, charging port and many more being damage. Yet everyone pushes the narrative that Apple is worse. Which is a lie

@@malfaroangel3896 did you even watch the video? Not arguing that replacement parts on some android phones can be expensive, but even with the cheaper iPhone screen and easier placement, it won't entirely work as the screen and many components are serialized and artificially break functionality, disincentivising 3rd-party and forcing customers to go to apple with their higher repair costs (or cost for their repair equipment) to get their phone fully working again as described in the video. Most Android phones don't even do this.

This trend is not just happening in electronics. Automobiles are trying to lock you into their own eco-systems as well. I remember when you could just by a jug of coolant at any auto parts store. But now the pink coolant for my Toyota can only be purchased from their dealerships. Sure there is something similar at the parts store but it's missing several ingredients. I've also heard of someone replacing their radio with an after-market version only to find the engine no longer runs. Turned out the engine computer was part of the radio in that model.

It would be so interesting to see the reaction from apple, if you just exchange the logic boards of two identical iPhones and go to an apple store to ask what is wrong (with the software issues) and they don't find anything except original apple-parts. Problem with that is the logic board is serialized as well as the simcard tray and display. The system Apple uses has the serials logged together, so they would be able to determine that there was a swap. The reason the parts from Apple are able to function is the Apple core systems update the database with the new serials to match the components that weren't replaced. When the phone connects to the internet, it phones home and updates the parts list. That's the loophole for the Apple Self Repair- when the parts are sent to you, the part serials are updated.

I've been watching Louis R's videos for years and he's right. People don't care as long as they get to sport the logo. It's amazing! I have asked the question of a group of my daughter's friends who all have iphones: How would you feel about Ford or Toyota or Honda not letting you repair your cars unless you buy everything from them? Their answers are always "I would never buy from them again". Then you point out that Apple has been doing that for years and making it worse each year and they go "ohhh" but then continue talking about how "yes" they will get the next iphone . We are sloths incarnate and companies like Apple and Tesla know it. I've stopped letting this ignorance raise my blood pressure. I do the only thing I *can* do: Not buy their products.

When you've putted back in its original phone, it was running 16.0. Then you have restored it and it was working again, suggesting that you have downgraded the firmware of the front camera module by doing so, making its version match the iOS version of the phone.

The battery is the main thing for me, perhaps you don’t want to swap your phone every two years but just want a battery replacement, sending to apple for a replacement and take two weeks and you might not have a spare phone to use. It should be user replaceable, take the front off without the dam glue and then unplug the battery and there it is. I’d be happy if the phone was a little thicker to allow this.

No. Think about stolen phones. In many countries people die or get shot simply because there is a market for stolen components. Here in Argentina it happens all the time. Sadly, android phones dominates the market and stolen parts are everywhere. I wish all the other companies start doing this, i repeat: people had died because they get shot just because some dude wanted to stole their phone to sell it, and other people buy stolen parts so there is a market for that that is covered in blood. If all devices in argentina where iPhones that market will disappear in the blink of an eye.

@@lucianoturano2326 I don't think this makes sense. Perhaps it is different in Argentina but why go through all that trouble to steal and then dismantle a phone. Do these people just sell the stolen phone parts to other Argentinians or do they export them to other countries? If they export them, how do they compete with China? If it's just local to Argentina, is there really a big enough market for parts? Also, some android phones have begun to start using serialized parts. Lastly, I don't think serialization will stop theft of phones. Please think about it, do you think most thiefs will stop mid robbery when they see that the user has an iphone? No, they are trying to steal and not get caught. They will take what they can and leave. Apple products are still being stolen today despite serialization. All this does is make the companies more money and create more waste.
