That's because the framerate may be less as people assosciate that subconscious without knowing the technical details. It's because most cinema content is bellow 30 and way less for stop motion and have a certain quality to them that the uninitiated may not be able to identify. I personally like it and there's many reasons to opt for thus, mainly because the less time the shutter is opens mean less light being processed with higher FPS, however, the longer an apature is open it is more susceptible to motion blur and not est suited to fast paced action, but that also kinda adds to the smooth cinematic vibe. 60fps in most aspects of videography is kinda overrated and a layman may think more is undeniably better due to associations with gaming, which works differently. I personally love 24fps in low light situations not only technically but has a buttery smooth vibe, that, and a lower exposure means more detail can be preserved where it's needed.

I agree that the iPhone 7 doesn't look that bad from those examples, but the problem is those examples are very much the best case scenario. Going from an iphone 7plus to a 13mini and being someone with olive-brown skin, I can definitively say that there is simply no competition in the front camera department. My 7 plus used to make me look like i was outright black in ALL conditions except for when it was extremely sunny and bright. My 13 mini not only makes me look like myself but also with the photographic styles, I can tune it so that my undertones of olive shine through. My skin looks exactly like I see it in person and it is SUCH A CONFIDENCE BOOSTER. The back camera's are closer but again, my skin tone is far more accurate on the 13.

I do believe the sharpness is more natural, but it terms of raw data, the 14 pro will edit a lot better. And I do have a 7 and a 14 pro so I can use both if need be. But the biggest feature is the great telephoto and macro capabilities and the depth of field and the in camera stabilization is far beyond the 7. So I can just reduce the sharpness and color grade very simply to get a 7 look, but whether I’m using either, I’d still be color grading for my own preference which neither camera does for me. I would say the 24fps on the 14 pro is also a big advantage as it makes it much more cinematic. I upgraded from the 7 and in terms of the phone, the camera is about the only thing going for it. Since the phone is pretty cheap now, it’s worth picking up I suppose, but I’m still mirrorless camera all the way, the bigger sensors always give a better vibe, especially since the raw data will be very editing friendly and the different lenses one can get will be superior to any iPhone in camera or external lens setup. I was using lenses on my iPhone 4, so I definitely enjoy the simplicity, but I’ve gotten way better footage from the 14 pro and I have the 256gb 7 and the 1tb 14 pro, so storage wise, if you really want to shoot 4k, with all the other parameters I’ve mentioned, the storage aspect is huge. And all that is disregarding the pro film apps such as filmic pro or protake. You can adjust so much more in those apps than with the 7 and you can already reduce a lot of the things you may dislike in the 14 pro, but also have more advantages with the other cameras. To be able to adjust everything is ideal, if anyone takes iPhone filming and photos serious, then a pro video app and a pro camera app will up the already fantastic quality and all that is before editing. I’m glad to have both, but realistically, the chance of me ever using a 7 again is slim.

The iPhone 7 when using ios 10 recorded the images in jpg. From ios 11 onwards, it started to use the current format, HEIC, which compresses the image more and produces images with a smaller size. But, despite being reported by Apple that the HEIC would have the same quality, it does not. I have a 7 with ios 10 and another with ios 15. Photos taken under the same conditions, they are worse in ios 15. You can export the photos in jpg in ios 15, but the photograph is made in HEIC. Then you can choose how to export: HEIC or jpg and the final result is the same. But when I photographed in jpg (before ios 11), I had more detail, better color, etc. So that muddy look is caused by the new file format.

I'm surprised at how many people prefer the 7 - I enjoy the look of the 14 much more, from the subtle contrast/fine detail enhancement that introduces more contrast in darker areas like the foliage without crushing shadows to the way it seems to pull more color out of the environment. Bit depth is the term, I guess, it's like dynamic range, but instead of high/low exposure extremes, you have extremes of different colors in one shot, and it looks very aesthetically pleasing to me. By comparison, the 7 has a bit of a haze. No deal breaker, I've pushed the Dehaze slider in both directions before and either can work, but if I can only have one, the 14 prevails.
@parufy Жыл бұрын
I was thinking the same. I think the 7 looks cheap, and not in a good way. The 14 definitely oversharpens things but that can be adjusted. In the shot from under the pier, the pillars are shillouettes on the 7, but you can actually see them on the 14. The 14 also has macro mode, action mode, night mode and other things like that. One thing I have noticed that is quite annoying as a 14 user is how far the focal distance is on the 1x wide lens. On my 11 I could use the 1x for close-up shots but on the 14 I can't get any closer than ~10cm or it goes out of focus. I guess the ultrawide lens picks up the slack. I also wish he tested 3x zoom on both models to show distant sharpness. The 14 wins by a lot in my book 🤷♂

I think people always prefer feeling nostalgia is why. In 10 years people will say 14 pro has a better "feel" than the iPhone 24. There's no denying how well the 14 captures color.

Obviously 14 does a better job in exposing darker areas, but I don't like the way it sharpens the edges of objects. 7 also takes impressive videos 👍🏼

They both look really good in my opinion. I had the 7 Plus with the dual lenses and thought it was amazing for the time. I also have a 12 Pro and 14 Pro and no longer a 7 Plus. I still got a 6s Plus laying around here somewhere. But I believe the 7 was geared for HD Video content so makes sense it's got a great video quality.

I love videos like this - it's like an antidote to all the marketing around launch time that makes you think you "need" to upgrade. I'm sticking with my 12 mini forever until another smaller unit comes out!

i think the most funny thing is that the camera was never that bad in the first place. If you show to anyone on the streets photos from the 7 and label as iphone 14, people will just believe and say it looks awesome... so i think we end up focusing too much on gear and not the spot we are at... there are also a bunch of techniques and other softwares to improve the photo quality... I read this on a book about photography once.... it's better to spend 1000 USD on a trip and 500 on a gear, than 1500 on just gear.

uhhhh to my shock...i think i enjoy the iPhone 7 video better than the 14 pro. This is coming from a guy with a 13 mini....dang it....I have been duped all these years to believing I'm getting mind blowing upgrades on these things. Video comparisons like this will sober you up!

This is so funny, I was just telling a buddy of mine today, how much I prefer the natural look of the iphone 6s series :) I don't have my 6s plus anymore, but I still have the first SE which has the same camera. I miss that look from my current iphone. :)

The reason these trends for retro happen is because for the most part older stuff lasts longer/is better quality. Side note - yes I know technically newer stuff is more advanced, but to me that does not translate to a huge quantum leap improvement, instead we get over reliance on HDR and over sharpening on phone cameras these days. The real world doesn't look like what these new phone cameras put out. I had a Pixel for a while and yes the photos look great, but they didn't look natural to me. Same with stuff like "night mode", yes it defo helps with dark shots but it does it in a such a reckless way. Mm. I got given an iphone 7 recently and I love it. Sure the battery sucks and I cant make calls, but it is defo a camera keeper. Great video.

I don’t find the 14 pro to be too sharp often but even so, in cases where I do, I can just change the sharpness, exposure and ambiance because of all the crazy software features that are there.

The video comparison would have looked way different under challenging low light conditions, where the better lenses and bigger sensor of the 14 Pro would have made a huge difference.

The fluctuations of the market only affect those that hodl coins, but traders makes money on both sides, when it's bearish they go short when it's bullish they go long... The best strategy to use in trading crypto is to trade with a professional, like Fergus waylen he understand the market quite well, that way maximum profits are guaranteed.

I still use an iPhone 7 and was thinking about finally switching to the iPhone 14 Pro mainly for an "upgrade" in its camera and battery life. After watching this and a couple of other comparison videos, I might as well just stick with my iPhone 7... I guess we'll see how the iPhone 15 ends up? Anyways, thanks for the video comparison.

I'm a little late to the comment section party on this, but I'd like to point out that yes, technically the 14 Pro is an improvement over the 7. But to me, the level of improvement over a 7 year span is absolutely pathetic.

I never owned an iPhone 7, but I have had the 4s, 5s, 6s+, 8+, 12, 12 ProMax, 14 ProMax and what I have noticed in general picture taking is the sharpness, saturation and dynamic range has increased, but the iPhone "look" has stayed much the same. I don't know what camera app you used, I'm assuming it was Apple's Camera app, the iPhone 7 photos could have been improved with some aperture and shutter speed adjustments. I learned photography on film with all manual cameras, no program or auto modes, just all manual, "F8 & be there" shooting. The fact of the matter is, one can get usable, and dare I say, great photos with just about any camera, iPhone or otherwise.

iPhone 7 footage looks cozier and warmer and makes me feel comfy. The 14 is too sharp/clinical/cold/lifeless... I NEVER ever thought I would have said these things... Wow. The 7 has some nostalgic effect because it has a cinematic feel to it while the 14 pro got the sharpness and brightness section. For me, i would choose the 7 cause it has the old days feeling hehe
