That must be heartbreaking in a way. You create an entire new brand from scratch, successfully made it a household name by focusing on what consumers wanted at a good value….only to have them ruin it by trying to chase margin. Seems to me he knows that to be competitive you cannot compete with Samsung/Apple on margin. You need to undercut them while being smart on focusing on software. It’s kinda basic, but not a lot of companies in the space have the discipline to follow through and be competitive.

He's capping about the BOM. Nothing phone 1 sold for 337$ during the sale in india, and that too that's the retail price after taxes. Price before taxes(12%) would be approx $300. So how can he sell a phone which costs $360 to build, for $300, and that's without development costs, marketing cost, shipping, retailer costs etc. He's capping for sure
@tama53802 жыл бұрын

@nischalk13362 жыл бұрын
@@tama5380 if the phone's BOM cost is indeed 360$, then you have to add the Factory cost, labour cost, assembly cost, workers cost, software dev cost( nothing apparently hired 500 engineers) distribution, retailer margin, marketing etc etc. So the costs would come upto $500 per unit. It's impossible for them to sell a 500$ phone for 300$. And that too nothing is a low volume company. BOM will be at the most around $200.

@james0604912 жыл бұрын
true. but you also have to take into account that the BoM for Apple is most likely less that what is calculated. Unless Apple released how much each iPhone cost to make (and they never will), we can only make assumptions. Apple likely gets huge discounts from it's suppliers, as they have huge volumes. I wouldn't be surprised if the real BoM was closer to the $400 mark. Also, I would imagine the "Pro" phones don't actually cost US$200-300 extra to build than the regular iPhone (my guess would be around $50-100 cheaper BoM)

@nischalk13362 жыл бұрын
@@Arian-Mondal.1988 @Arian Mondal Buddy your ignorance is hilarious. @@shreyanshmishra1712 Firstly we neither have any proof of BOM nor that of margins, so debating over that is illogical, he may be lying or he may be speaking the truth.. lot of startups incur heavy losses until they reach their breakeven.. so even if he is saying the truth that is nothing unreasonable.. secondly it may not be a competitor presently but surely down the line sometime they'll launch a flagship device so Apple is a potential competitor for them.. and to me the video as a whole is a very bold and honest approach towards promoting a brand, no one does so.. i am not saying that Carl himself is honest... @@markmywords3817 in this case it kind of does trick you into going for something lesser. people will admit that the iPhone is a better phone, or a Samsung is a better value, than the Nothing phone, the ploy here is to make you way to buy it regardless of all that, just because this guy seemed kind of cool in a 10 minute video. its weird phenomena but it seems to be working on some.
@markmywords3817 Жыл бұрын
@@JC-bh6gu I think the people who feel like it's a trick aren't tricked at all. It's simply a brand marketing move (i.e. we're constantly reminding you we are here as an option). I'm part of the market segment that tries to find the most utility over the cost of a phone, has no brand loyalty, likes to root phones, and knows new entrants work on razor thin or even negative margins. I know that if Nothing gets more long-term brand recognition, they will 2x-3x the cost of their flagship in the long run. Same strategy as the previous entrants (Huawei, Xiaomi, OnePlus). If marketing was just about tricks, then you'd have to contend with the fact that Apple has made the market get used to more than $1k price tag of phones, when the whole market used to pay for way way less.

For that alone it's worth more money than competitors yet it's priced about the same as in equivalent tier Lenovo / Dell / etc. The value is absolutely top notch on M1 macbook (pro). Not to mention the great monitor, speakers, etc. I'd argue M1 iMac is also a great value with great speakers and monitor with the spec, but it's generally a niche product. Also tbh I think apple today has better value in general outside of a few exceptions like some crazy stupid monitor stand. But when u used to hear OnePlus u kinda knew that this was a grt choice, not anymore. I have high hopes from nothing. I may or may not purchase it, coz I love 3.5mm jacks more than others and I wouldn't let them ruin my experience just bcoz all companies joined hands in removing that option for me. While some sony still providing the jack, and asus packing the jack in its smaller phone, they literally have no other reason to remove it, than to only sell their wireless buds.
