The part about Apple Intelligence is at least partially wrong. Most functionalities of Apple AI is either powered by on-device intelligence (a direction they have been keen on for years) and private cloud compute, the latter is Apple customised servers designed to preserve privacy and that virtually if not absolutely no one can access the content uploaded and processed there. The partnership with OpenAI is for complicated request (like identifying the type of flower or creating a recipe) beyond Apple's in-house model's ability. When OpenAI (ChatGPT) is required, users will have to manually approve the request to be sent every single time. The statement that 'OpenAI' is doing most of the work behind Apple AI is simply untrue. I approve of some of other points in this video, that Apple marketing (which isn't the first day this is happening) is often misleading or not telling the 'best truth'.

Thanks for the well reasoned post. Do hope the privacy is really maintained. Apple should give more details which specific services are utilizing Open AI for better transparency so we can see if it is really true that most services are handled in device. They didn't make it clear during the presentation. For example in their upcoming generative remove object in photos, is that in-device or through a server?

@@takebetterphotos8132they go over this in detail in their WWDC announcement of Apple intelligence. The article you showed that headlined about open AI and Apple partnership was posted around WWDC

@@takebetterphotos8132 I believe the remove objects one is on-device, a counter-argument would be OpenAI hardly offers the same functionality. Apple AI was announced at WWDC 2024, in which they did a really detailed presentation, and they have lengthy and highly technical blog posts explaining everything. I would recommend you to give the Apple AI section of WWDC 24 a watch. It will make a lot more sense. At the end of the day, ChatGPT is only one external AI model Apple is integrating, for very specific requests, that users will have to approve data to be sent every single time. I actually believe above all Apple AI is most privacy-preserving and ethical. Again they should make everything clearer in their marketing for ordinary consumers.

Thanks for the feedback lets see how Apple Intelligence progresses. I understand all the features won't be coming out so soon.

Fair enough, if it is only ChatGPT than I guess it will be more reasonable. Lets see how it goes when the full version of Apple Intelligence is made available for users.

I just feel that Apple is falling behind on everything. It’s not intuitive anymore.

Not innovating as they used to do. Have gotten lazy from success

More misleading is the fact that the sensor is not a 48MP sensor, it is a 12MP Quad Bayer sensor, which is not the same as a true 48MP sensor.

Yes totally. It seems this is the trend for device makers to claim innovation without upgrading to bigger sensors

Apple lacks innovation....same old same old other than a few lack lustre gimmicks.

12:32 I heard it's because on-device AI requires at least 8gb of RAM and should they tell us about it, in doing so, they would also admit they hadn't been putting enough RAM in their devices, which they won't do. You know, Apple can't be wrong

Yes, they used to be able to get away with fancy/optimized software algorithms but with on device AI they have met their match. In any case a lot of their demos (i.e. taking photos of dogs, restaurants, generative photos) seemed to use server based AI so don't think those need fancy cpus.
