iPhone 7 - Backlight, Home button, 3D touch repair

Your iPhone 7’s backlight isn’t working and you want to repair it yourself? iDoc will show you how to replace your iPhone 7’s backlight one step at a time.
You may have to replace the backlight even if the backlight itself isn’t broken. A torn cable on the display could also make your Home button stop working. Replacing the backlight unit can also fix problems with 3D Touch.
The iPhone 7’s backlight takes about an hour to replace.
We recommend using the following tools for the repair: a pentalobe screwdriver, a Y-type screwdriver, a Phillips screwdriver, a pick, a suction cup, a pair of tweezers and a spudger.
You’ll also need hot air at about 190°C (374°F) to detach the backlight, which is really glued into the iPhone 7. You’ll need a soldering iron with a fine tip to solder the backlight contacts onto the display cable.

Not all back lights have the 3d touch so be careful.

Hey. Thanks for the video, this helped me a lot since I know now that I can repair a i7 screen with backlight flex riped off. Just a question, what kind of "glue" are you using to solder the flex Cables together? Which you put on both flexcables.

I have a problem where my lcd was dimming at the side and later on when I rebooted it, it turned black but the homebutton is still working. However, I changed the lcd screen with an aftermarket and my phone works well. Somehow I checked the flex cable and the back light cable (similar to the video) was bent. Do you think I need a replacement for the backlight? Please help me, I don’t have another dime to spend another screen and this aftermarket screen hurts my eyes. PS. I’m on IPhone 7 plus. ☹️

Hi thats a very good video. I have the same issue. I accidentally ripped the home button extension cable linked to lcd whilst repairing camera. What are the chances of touch id working after this repair?

iDoc Reparatur Service I have the same issue as you have shown in the video. The flex cable is ripped which is attached to the lcd. In your video you have shown the home button working after. Also with mine there is no damage to the home button.

You can’t it’s married to the motherboard, is it the ribbon connector from the backlight that’s damaged, is it the ribbon connector connected directly to the home button, or is you home button straight up dead?

Never mind, I used a hair dryer (2000w) for this and the glue came off .

Great self-help :) With a hair dryer you have to be more patient (as it gets not that hot), but it works as well. Enjoy your repaired phone!

My iphone 7 touch screen is not responding, the display works as in i can see everything normally but when i touch/ try to enter my password nothing happens. I think i might have damaged the flex cable of lcd, is there any way i can use my original lcd display without having to use third party/replacement kid. Please help. thanks!

Hi rohan chitte, unfortunately there is no other option than changing the display. The flex cable, which is responsible for the touch is also responsible for the LCD itself. So if it's broken, the whole display won't work anymore. All the best Sabine from iDoc

Hi rohan chitte, in most cases the spare part is defective if the flex cable is torn. only if you are very lucky, you will not have hit an important track but only the cover. Best Sabine from iDoc

Hello, yes, the replacement of the backlight is very similar on the iPhone 8. The place where the backlight is soldered on is slightly different, but otherwise the procedure is the same.

@@syedowaismir5363 Yes, the home button is connected with the same flex cable. A new backlight including this flex cable should make the home button functional again.
