people who add a dislike for the video I can't understand. Everyone can pick holes in someone else's hard work and don't like to be criticised themselves. You just spent a lot of time on a board some people would have said too much damage, looking for the easy buck. Taking away special tools it's near on impossible and with the tools it takes a long time to get to where you are. Just watch and learn and appreciate the frustration you go through on a board like that one.

At first I was really worried about people criticizing me but as time went on I'm not. I've realized the ones who criticize just to be jerks typically don't do this type of work... that was pretty easy to narrow down :) No shortage of haters though, it looks like I'm winding up with a fixed amount of them so far... LOL My first few dislikes were like a kick in the stomach but that got quickly outweighed by positive attention.. a really good feeling. I have learned a ton from good criticism though. Thank you for this comment - very true stuff here!
@spartan4567 жыл бұрын
It's honestly very, very shocking to think about just how many people out there believe this type of work is not worth pursuing. Screen flipping is a dead end industry and has been going downhill for the last year and half, if not longer. The iPhone 8 is the nail in the coffin. Evolve or die. The real future of electronics repair is in this stuff, and what comes with it is so much more knowledge and experience that can be applied to almost anything that uses a battery or plugs into the wall. The shops that get by on component level repairs like batteries and screens are only going to go so far before they realize shit just isn't fixable. It may not be possible to replace the screen in an iPhone 8 unless you're an AASP, but there's definitely going to be no shortage of board faults that come with it. And we all know Apple isn't going to do anything for their customers to fix those except hand them another device that's going to have the same faults, in exchange for money. Because what's a warranty!? Why people would call this work not worth it is something I'll never understand.

Thanks! I'm really liking the new setup too :) I couldn't have afforded the big screen if they weren't ridiculously cheap. When I first decided to buy one, this 43" 4k was $298 (black Friday special) but the 55" 4k was $278. I actually spent more for the smaller monitor because 55" would have just been silly. The 43/4k I originally bought died the day it was wall mounted tho, so I wound up exchanging it for this one that is 1920x1080.

Good to know you are among the living. Is it possible you could apply or dip the edge of the connectors in solder paste then hot air the connectors? Curious why you do not use Kapton Tape to protect surrounding items and components from heat? I notice you use tape (Kapton?) to hold the board down on your shop work bench. I really enjoy your videos. They are down to earth and straight forward. Thanks...
@ststele8 жыл бұрын
Hey, thanks for watching and commenting :) I feel like I have a lot less control over my heat with shielding... I find it much harder to predict melting points because of how the heat moves through these boards. I've had some bad experiences with kapton tape pulling components from the board too because it really doesn't prevent the solder on the surrounding components from melting. I wind up using a lot more heat to do the same job with even the smallest amount of shielding to the point where I feel safer not shielding... unless there is underfill near by (or a battery connector!! I should have shielded that one). When I first started using hot air, I was trying to use solder paste to put these connectors on. I never had much success with it but I'm thinking about giving it another shot! :) Surely there's some way to evenly spread it without it being drawn more to one pin or another. Back then it would always ball up here or there and never settle evenly. Your idea of dipping the pins may just work.

Great setup. Nice camera angles on everything. Your part techinician, part director, part producer... lol. I've got the same tri-scope head you have, been trying to figure out what cam to put on it. Which one are you using?
@ststele8 жыл бұрын
Hey thanks for watching and commenting :) Nice to get some feedback on the new setup too - many people wont even notice other than the new monitor. I bought a cheap 14mp eBay camera but was careful on the specs to choose the one that had the Panasonic sensor listed rather than the "Chinese" sensor some of them list. I'm not sure if that makes a difference but the Panasonic sensor was actually a little bigger. I have a hard time getting this one to focus though and the images are always a bit fuzzy.. I'll be replacing it as soon as the budget can help justify replacing it. =) The model that shows up in device manager is Y2310.

Ring Tone It's probably a 3% Branson EC solution/ 97% distilled water mixture heated to 50 degrees celcius. That's what most shops use in their ultrasonic cleaners
@ststele8 жыл бұрын
Thanks :) Vincent Louie has it correct. That's a 3% solution of Branson EC (around $12 per quart from Allspec, expensive to ship) heated to 50C. On really nasty boards I'll occasionally heat it to 80C.
@spartan4567 жыл бұрын
Have you seen those smart heating platforms? They're basically miniature hot plates that you can put the board on and it hooks in USB so you can control heating profiles. Just search for smart heating platform on ebay. They look pretty damn cool and seem like a really clean alternative to the usual bulky convection systems, but they have a pretty hefty price tag. Might be something you would want if you find yourself constantly having to supplement the micropencil with hot air to give it more ass. I personally don't have one because I can't justify that kind of a purchase, I don't even have a micropencil yet, lol, but figured you might want to know about those.

@ststele7 жыл бұрын
Touch issues on the 6s are almost always either long screw damage or a component that's loose around the connector. On the 6s, the touch ICs are part of the screen so you actually replace the ICs when the screen is replaced.

Give ear, O Shepherd of Israel, thou who leadest Joseph like a flock! Thou who art enthroned upon the cherubim, shine forth 2 before E′phraim and Benjamin and Manas′seh! Stir up thy might, and come to save us! 3 Restore us, O God; let thy face shine, that we may be saved! 4 O Lord God of hosts, how long wilt thou be angry with thy people’s prayers? 5 Thou hast fed them with the bread of tears, and given them tears to drink in full measure. 6 Thou dost make us the scorn[a] of our neighbors; and our enemies laugh among themselves. 7 Restore us, O God of hosts; let thy face shine, that we may be saved! 8 Thou didst bring a vine out of Egypt; thou didst drive out the nations and plant it. 9 Thou didst clear the ground for it; it took deep root and filled the land. 10 The mountains were covered with its shade, the mighty cedars with its branches; 11 it sent out its branches to the sea, and its shoots to the River. 12 Why then hast thou broken down its walls, so that all who pass along the way pluck its fruit? 13 The boar from the forest ravages it, and all that move in the field feed on it. 14 Turn again, O God of hosts! Look down from heaven, and see; have regard for this vine, 15 the stock which thy right hand planted.[b] 16 They have burned it with fire, they have cut it down; may they perish at the rebuke of thy countenance! 17 But let thy hand be upon the man of thy right hand, the son of man whom thou hast made strong for thyself! 18 Then we will never turn back from thee; give us life, and we will call on thy name! 19 Restore us, O Lord God of hosts! let thy face shine, that we may be saved!
