Just wanted to pop in and say thank you for this video! I shattered my screen, went into the apple repair store, and they told me they couldn't fix it and that I should get a new model (for only $390!). Found this video, dropped $25 on a repair kit with a screen, fixed the damn thing, and saved $365. Wasn't too hard, just time consuming as it was my first time doing this kind of work. So thank you for helping me not go broke over a phone.

Richard: Great step-by-step guide to changing my iPhone 7 screen. I don't have any criticisms whatsoever -- it provided the detail I needed. Some tips to help the novice out like me: (1) I followed your suggestion to place the parts and screws together; however, I accidentally bumped the my table, so the screws moved around. You may want to indicate when a screw is a different size than the others for a particular part to help out when mistakes are made; (2) I don't know if you do this our not, but placing the work "Realistic" in your video title really helps me out when searching for your other videos; (3) you may want to have a video showing how to remove the screen from the LCD (which I bet you've already done; if so, ignore this comment); and (4) you may want to provide some tips on inspecting a screen received from a seller to determine if it is defective or not, since the first screen I received was defective (i.e., a piece was broken), and I didn't find out until I tried to use the home button after installing the screen. I can't tell you how much I enjoyed your video, and the helpful hints you provided from your experiences. Five stars.

I very much appreciate this video. I followed the tutorial all the way through, and even watched it all the way through 3 times prior to cracking open my phone. My luck though, is that nothing literally ever works for me, as intended. In the test phase of the install; it took half an hour to boot up. This is directly related to screen swapping, because it booted fine all day, and had to turn off/on multiple times yesterday, as I kept having to text call someone. I even placed the old cracked screen back, in order to test and it booted quickly/perfectly. I should've stopped at the point where it took over an hour to get the glue loose enough for the screen to break free. Even with my heat gun. But, being the glutton for punishment that I am; I kept going. I know everything was placed correctly, because I have one of those magnet mats to place everything, like the screws and heat shields. I kept testing through the whole process, and it ALWAYS took 30 minutes to boot. Once I got it back together, completely and closed; it gets really hot before boot even completes, and the home button will not work at all. I get the message that "touch id is not available". It does still charge and recognizes iTunes. Did I get a bad screen? How badly did I screw it up? I've triple checked all of the ribbons and there's no damage to any of them that I can tell. :(

I've used the same supplier for the last 5 yrs. The thing with a website like Amazon or Ebay, the popular selling stuff is sold at the cheapest price. And there are different quality aftermarket screens. You cant tell or rely on what you are gonna get. I'm going to put out a course with a private FB group with all the info everyone has been asking me about which will have my direct supplier contact info, business name and number. I'll keep everyone posted about it.

I'm thinking about maybe jumping into this cell phone end. I am already an electronics tech/engineer and can actually rework surface mount components. It appears however, that most of the repair centers on broken screens and I would guess bad solder joints on switches, jacks, and usb charging sockets. I specialize mainly in vintage audio as of late, but have had my own car stereo shops and have fixed and modified pretty much anything that come along. I can print and etch my own pcb's. So, with that being said, I'm going to watch your video. I have watched other peoples video's and am seeing very simplex repairs ie removing circuit boards, cable disconnects, etc. Thanks.
@RichardMeza
@RichardMeza 5 жыл бұрын
The entire business is 90% cracked screens, 5% charging ports, 5% battery replacements. On occasion a camera replacement. With Androids it's the exact same thing but add in cracked back glass covers which are simple to do. Ofcourse they are simple once you get the hang of everything and do them several times and get confident once you get several under your belt. I had zero electronic repair experience before I got into this and started right into building it into a business. If other people are doing it, why cant you do it and make money too.

Thank you Richard, I appreciate your reply. I believe I have all the tools that I need, but I am going to order the package you have linked to anyway. I'm going to need a few screens and the heating appliance as well. Probably start into it with just the I6 and I7 phones for now, just to get me started. There is only one shop here in town that would be competition. That isn't a worry for me and maybe even healthy competition. I'm am completely confident in my skill set. I've been doing this type of work for decades now. The cell phone are a lot the same as many other items that I have worked on. Looking forward to giving it a try. I appreciate the videos that you have posted and realize you really don't need to be posting them. I appreciate your time and will update you of my progress later on. I also have funds on hand for any collateral damage that my take place to these phone. Like anything else it will take me a little getting used to. I am used to soldering smt parts that are really nothing more than a speck. I have several forms of high power magnification in my shop. My favorite being the optical loops. I may order a camera or two and the a couple charging ports as well. I'm can't help but wonder if I can solder some of that stuff. Maybe I'm being to old fashioned, but that is how I have repaired thousands and thousands of item. Once again I appreciate your time. I wish you much luck and continued ramped up repairs and income. Thanks, Tom

@@triceps1961 with iPhones everything is a simple pop in connection. That's for all iPhones all the way up to the current iPhone XS. There is no soldering involved. With the Samsung galaxy models everything starting at the old galaxy S4 is a pop connection. No soldering. Only the new galaxy S10, the charging port is part of the motherboard. That requires soldering to fix that port on the S10. The Samsung Note phones it's all pop in connection with charging ports.

Another good video Richard. Followed the instruction. Had to do it twice as I was sent a dud screen the first time. Anyhow I got a problem with the home button. Finger print works but button doesn’t work so good. Used to vibrate a lot and when I did the fingerprint scanning, I was getting messages that I was pushing too hard but I actually wasn’t. I did a software update and the then the button stopped working and no more vibrate like it did before. Touch still works and I can register a new fingerprint and now I don’t get a message about pressing too hard, but button doesn’t work properly for going home. I can do a double click but not a single click to go home. Any advice would be helpful. Thanks in advance.

Do you know from your experience which part is broken now?
@RichardMeza

It could be the backlight fuse. A micro chip could have burned out. It causes the display not to show. You maybe able to see it if its in the light at an angle. Its fixable but requires micro soldering on the motherboard.

You mean the ones on the sides that hold the back plate metal shield? I use a pair of pliers and move it back and forth on that spot until that piece breaks off whenever that situation comes up. @@ppj228 #1 cause is your pentalobe screwdriver tip is probably worn out. Buy another one. They shouldn't be hard to get out. #2 sometimes you'll get a screw that just keeps spinning. So at the 4:46 mark you see how I put that iSeasomo blade tool in like that, pull up a little on the screen with that tool stuck in like that. That should give it traction so the screw will come out.

The screen actually says touch not available? Put the old screen back on and see if it goes back to normal. If it does, the screen you have is bad.

Put the home button back onto the original screen. See if it starts working again. If it does then your new screen is faulty

I know someone who started doing this 4 months ago. Within 4 months he's started to net 400 phones a month. He's pulling in 30K in pure profit a month off of these phones. Literally wild. I'm looking at doing the same. Hoping I can do at least one phone a day, which means around $2,000 extra a month to start.

As a repairer like you, this is such a lovey detailed video. Although, I believe if you want to get more views, your video has to be short and precise as people prefer watching a shorter video with all the necessary details. In conclusion, this video has been helpful for me and I'm wishing you success in your youtube channel.

The hardest part of this are the screws not coming out. Make sure you have a good set of screwdrivers like he does in the video, or you're likely going to constantly get stuck like I did.
