Very proud to say I was there when this issue displayed itself. I actually was the one to split the board as we narrowed the issue down to being something on the bottom board. It was indeed interesting to watch the correct password get “bonked”. Jessa explained for us some of the theories as to what may have caused this. This video is an example of how real life scenarios can create excellent content that can benefit many. I’m sure this has happened to or will happen to other technicians in the future and this video will help them understand what may be going on.

I wonder why Chris’s board prompts that. Is it possible because Chris’s phone has Apple Pay enabled and the other doesn’t? Might be a security layer apple has Just pure speculation

This is really interesting research you're putting out there for free. Thank you. We did discuss this on the group, now I understand where that comes from. I am aware of the fact that running an update will make the top board accept a different NFC chip. But this is something extremely risky: what if your update fails with some random error 67 at 97%, and the board won't come out of recovery mode? I hate relying on software, because you're just hoping that the software won't stab you in the back (and lose you access to the data). Also, what works one day might not work the next day: Apple just needs to flip a switch, and make updates impossible with a different NFC chip. Moving the original NFC chip (if intact, of course) to the bottom board I'm trying to use is the safest strategy (for me). If I have to rely on a software update, from Apple of all people, or on proper heat control to solder a chip, I prefer the latter.

I had a similar interesting case where I had to do a full swap on a 14 pro - so I swapped everything - cpu, nfc’s, Wi-Fi,Bbcpu, eeproms. Phone worked but didn’t accept passcode saying it is incorrect. I was afraid to update . I then moved over the eSIM chip from original bottom to new one and then it has accepted my passcode

@@JessaJones - The forced 3-minute restart is the dumbest thing Apple has ever done. There are a number of other ways to let the user know about a sensor issue, on the screen, beep or vibrate a certain pattern. It's unfriggin' believable how dumb it is!!
@Kinkajou1015Ай бұрын
The reports of "my passcode is right but it won't accept it" have been a thing for ages, I'm totally going to try and see if force updating will work if it's not at iPhone Unavailable (rarely happens). I bet you're right it's likely some issue from a connection being severed from the shock of a drop or something.

If you press firmly on the board from restart to password unlock, you might bridge the broken connection and allow it to work. If you're really lucky.

My guess was going to be something related to the CPU and secure enclave but that's on the CPU not the bottom board, I really want to know more about why this happens, is this just some strange bug in iOS where instead of checking the state of secure enclave it tests everything required for Apple Pay?

I had the same thing with an ipad. No help from apple either. I had a second ipad and I created a new account and was able to get the first ipad unlocked that way. I bought a surface pro. My phone is android. I never dropped the ipad. But I did have it in airplane mode when the battery ran completely down. It's the only thing that I can thing of that could have caused the problem for me. Apple products, well I am not going to say it. But I made a switch.

How many of us have had Samsung customers that swear there was no passcode on their phone and now suddenly there is? Years back i chalked it up to too many party favors when you set it, but lately, there's far too many for it to be mass hallucinations while seeing a pass code lol

With banks using forever different algorithms to identify their clients this is understanding. Using Apple pay in my grocery store is taking longer and longer as it exchanges more and more data. As a regular customer on the same gas station I get higher limits before the pin is required. Additionally some payment processors accept my Iphone to read and charge other peoples cards with me being a merchant. Extra sucurity is not free.

Wow, it's impressive how you completely missed the point of the video! Did you even watch it, or are you just throwing random 'fixes' out there without understanding the situation? This is a highly technical issue with the motherboard, something only technicians deal with-definitely not a 'simple restart' kind of problem. Maybe take a minute to research what data recovery actually involves before making such... insightful comments. And if restarting your Samsung actually fixes motherboard issues for you, that speaks volumes about their 'quality.' 🙃
@bramvandenbroeck5060Ай бұрын
@@ItsMePhiliph No, i am done with iphones randomly dying for no reason, like my sister's iphone 12 that went to apple to get fixed, only to get it back, and now being unable to activate the phone, i don't know how this happens, but it's crazy that a once 800 euro device, is now a paperweight! I have a samsung s20 and it's the best choice i have ever made! It's not 'just' about this video, it's the whole picture, everything that i encountered with apple devices, this only intensifies the pressure to get away from apple, making believe it is our fault, but in fact, because of some stupid connection issue, it makes you believe your passcode is wrong, never encountered this on the android side, i asked a couple of friends who use android for the longest times. Don't make assumptions on just 1 comment my guy. I know why i am switching over. This is not the first time apple tries to screw over it's customers. I can give you a list of Axxxx numbers of which apple screwed up, and telling us 'you are using it wrong' . . .
@ItsMePhiliphАй бұрын
@@bramvandenbroeck5060 Oh come on, DID YOU EVEN WATCH THE VIDEO?? This issue isn’t about the iPhone 'randomly dying'-it’s happening because they’re doing a data recovery due to things like water damage, accidents, etc. The bottom board was damaged, so they had to swap it out, which caused this unique passcode problem. It’s not some everyday 'my phone suddenly died' situation. All tech has its ups and downs-even Android isn’t immune to issues (ever heard of boot loops or Samsung battery drama?). So before jumping to conclusions, maybe actually watch the video and understand what’s going on. 😉
@bramvandenbroeck5060Ай бұрын
@@ItsMePhiliph Do you think i didn't watch the video? What do you not understand in me being done with apple devices doing random shit like that? We are techies, we know about this stuff, but grandma? She will enter the correct passcode, phones says "uh-uh! Wrong code" while it is the correct code, you get this phone, try the code grandma is so sure off that is correct, you don't know about this code issue because of this board level problem, and you harras grandma to give you the "correct code" which was being correct the entire time, it makes it seems like grandma is a liar, while the problem is IN APPLES DESIGN, just like all the other devices that have an apple designed flaw. THAT is the problem i have, making people BELIEVE it is their fault, like this passcode issue! Give me a model of samsung, or xiaomi, or motorola, or whatever brand of phone, that has this problem, you won't find any, except iphones. THAT is my problem with them. Sister's iphone went in for bat replacement, wifi stopped working when the phone got back, phone never being dropped, she babies it so hard because she is only 15 and has no money for a phone (i paid for bat replacement at apple store), phone comes back, and it is screwed. Apple; only with this company, you see sh1t like this. But please, keep using your iphone, i hope it works out for you, but for me? I have enough of their shenanigans, have seen too much issues with them.
