Not only that, you can add an ND filter to it, and adjust your shutter speed to match the frame rate ( ½ ) so you get a cinematic motion instead of shitty phone video look. The difference is massive.

What’s an ND filter?
@NikPelekai Жыл бұрын
@@EXPLICITBGNeutral Density filter. Really it’s basically just sunglasses for your camera’s lens. Helps when there’s too much light and your image is overexposed.

so glad there's a way to get rid of the apple processing now. it was always the give away for me when guessing if something was shot on an iphone.

The one big win for me with the BMC app is that it will automatically generate and save the proxy file along with the LOG file to the SSD or SD card. This has streamlined my processing into Davinci Resolve and no need to go through the whole proxy generation step separately. It is already done and on the SSD.,

100% agree with Ryan. For me too, the biggest thing is the fact that Apple LOG gets rid of that horrible phone footage sharpening. It looks sooo much better than anything else from phones just because of this.

The blackmagic camera app is amazing, and you can shoot log in H.265 to save a ton of space on the phone.
@utah6210 ай бұрын
Thanks for sharing. The problem I had with the Blackmagic app yesterday was that when filming during the day with locked shutter speed and ISO 55, the image was overexposed. While you can adjust this somewhat with the exposure compensation button, it changes the locked shutter speed, which shouldn't happen. An ND filter could be a solution, but that adds cost and bulk to the rig.

Admittedly a little envious that I don't have this on the native Samsung camera app on my S23 Ultra. It really should be a setting. You can get a flatter image by lowering the contrast, highlights, shadows, and saturation, but it's limited to Full HD and unavailable in UHD or 8k. Considering I have used my phone to capture footage that I later edited and got paid for, it'd be nice to have Log at my disposal for more editing avenues.

People aren’t loosing attention because the video isn’t fast enough, but because of the way the information is preceded. It feels like you are standing by a stream, and the info is just flowing past you at breakneck speed, and your brain is trying to keep up, but is not able to, so it just switches off. If you look back on educational shows from the 70s and up, you find that the information is broken up into bite size chunks, and often repeated, so the brain can have time to absorb it. But for some reason that information has been lost, and people now just act like they are reading the information from some sort of homepage, abut the stuff that they are talking about, and thinking that if you read it fast enough with as few pauses as possible, people will learn it faster.

If you are shooting video on a smart phone, you should get a phone stabilizer cage like the Neewer A104 smartphone video rig (~$20). The cage gives you comfortable hand grips so you can hold the phone steady along with 1/4-20 and cold shoe mounts. Try it, you will like it.

Love the video. Apple Log is a game changer, I do prefer using a Color Space Transform to do the conversion (as Stu mentioned) rather than LUT's, I think if you try that you will see that the image looks basically perfectly neutral, and ready for any creativity to be put on top, sometimes I really just like the image exactly as shot, with just the CST. I really don't like mixing locked in creative choices with conversions between color spaces. I am not sure if you guys use Davinci for color though...if not, LUT's are the next best thing (as Stu also mentioned).

the iphone just became a real camera, except better because it also has ARkit. Someone now needs to make an app that can capture the camera tracking data and log prores video in one go. Total game-changer for VFX. The idea that Alexa and RED cameras don't have gyros and positional data built-in yet is mind blowing. The iphone has every camera on the market beat in the data category because it has so many sensors on board.
