Will the Rhode adapter cable work with any mic such as Shure Lens Hopper? I know the Rode mic you have in the vid has great reviews but I can't get over how difficult the batter area was to open. Also after turning on the mic and plugging in does this mic override audio in the main video camera?

Sadly no one youtube didnt actually make a real test. I have Video Mic Mini same mic as Me but without TRRS jack. Mic Mini works superb on dSLR, but with SC4 adapter to TRRS connected to any iPhone (tried 4, 4S and 6s) sound is awfully low or because of different impedance which Apple changes depending on iOS version and iPhone itself external mic switches off automatically and internal keeps recording without you knowing. Tried it also on LG G3 Android smartphone amd it kinda works better but eith a lot of hiss noise. Tried on ASUS Zenfone 2 and it doesn't work at all! Hopefully someone can find what the real problem is and how to solve it as RODE said it to me that theres no difference between Video Mic Mini and Mic Me which has TRRS jack builtin so if thats true both mics should work on smartphones at same performance, but if thats not true and RODE did something different on Mic Me about how they made the wiring inside the mic so that the impendance or whatever is correct then they should make this statement public! Tnx! :)

Use a lav mic, like the smartLav or the others mentioned. I think they'll work fine. The main thing you need to watch out for is wind noise, so you may want to use a windscreen or hide the mic under you shirt. Just watch out cuz hiding the mic can muffle the sound a little. Good luck. I created a video on my channel about best practices for shooting outdoors. ~Amani

I originally purchased the Rode VideoMic Me for doing video and found that unless my phone was in airplane mode I had a high likelihood of getting some cellular feedback popping/crackling in the audio. Recently picked up the Clip Mic Digital (from Sennheiser and Apogee) that works via the lightning port and it's WORLDS better. Granted it.s $200 and has a somewhat short cord, but the sound rivals the $600 Sennheiser setup since it uses the same actual mic as their G3 unit. Plus it's worth noting that the 3.5mm headphone jack is likely a goner after the next iPhone ships in just a few weeks.

I have had a Rode Videomic Me for about 9 months (bought July 2016), and in almost every video I shoot it creates problems. Clicking sounds, or sounds like rustling when nothing is touching the mic or wind when there is no wind. And, for some reason I can't explain, the audio sometimes gets out of sync by a few frames (no fun to fix). Before buying this mic, I recommend you do google "problems with Rode videomic me" -- I wish I had done this research. The weird part is that the problems are reported back as far as 2014. Rode, why haven't you fixed this problem??? I love the idea of having a shotgun mic I can carry in my pocket, and to Rode's benefit, when it has worked on short videos, the sound quality is so much better than with the iPhone 6s built in mic. Bottom line-- do your research! This is a fun mic, but not a professional, or even a prosumer grade mic-- until Rodes fixes the problem!

He needs to add Binaural Surround Sound 3D Audio microphones to this list fast to keep it current. In a year's time this video is going to be extremely dated as is all the technology shown. HTC and Nokia are rolling out triple microphone Binaural Recording 360° Surround Sound Technology in their flagship Smartphones and they sound absolutely sensational especially recording live events. Apple has implemented a 3 microphone setup too on iPhone X, though failed to add Binaural Recording to iOS so far. As soon as they do, most microphones will be useless except to specifically record your voice. They look set to do the same thing to Microphones that they did to Cameras and Camera film.

Thank you for this! Just wanted to ask if a Rode VideoMic Go together with a RODE SC7 cable would work on an iphone X using the Apply lightning cable to 3.5mm adaptor ?

My wife just go a new iPhone so I can now use her old one as well as my own Nokia7+. Was thinking .. could I use and clip on mic, with the old phone in my pocket to record audio, use my own phone, say on a tripod to film, then simply combine the two during the editing. Surely it can't be too difficult to get them in sync. Regards !

I see this vid was made in 2016 before the new iPhones came out that only have the one plug in option on them. Does that mean you need an adaptor if you get one of those directional mics, or are there new choices? Also - I FB Live from my Mac - can you just plug the direction mic directly into that? Thx!

Question: Do you know of any issue(s) with these mics and the iPhone lightning adaptors? Great channel btw. Just found it, been watching videos for hours.

Love ❤️ your channel. I'm a truck driver that's a vlogger and my main camera is a Rebel t6i with a rode mic but sometimes I use my iPhone for certain shots on the fly or KZbin live but the sound quality is a noticeable difference. Why doesn't my Bluetooth headset work as a mic while recording video? Is there a fix?

Have the SmartLav+ and although the sound quality is fantastic the cable length is sooo short for anything other than hand held cam voiceovers. Definitely need an extension if you want to do a full frame tripod shot.

Suan, Per this video, I purchased the Boya from your link. It's not that good. I disagree with you. The Boya has a tinty sound to it. I don't like it and I don't recommend it.

I'm starting to use the BOYA myself. I also plan to try to use my Zoom H4n for a potential livestream. Do you think that would work?

I bought the BOYA this week, was very excited after all the good reviews. I used it with my iPhone 4s but listening to the recordings the audio is overpitched so it sounds crappy. Who has suggestions how to adjust the recording level so the sound will be better?? Hope someone can help me out

Any suggestions for Bluetooth microphones for a Garmin VIRB 360 for mountain biking (so outdoor wind noise is an issue)?

Hello I'm Gus from Korea. I just bought VideoMic Me after watching your video. The quality is pretty good but the volume is not that loud. How do fix this problem?

Hey man I'm using a RØDE videomic me as seen in this video but I'm actually having a lot of problems with it; the main reason I got it was because my phone's recording microphone is really messed up somehow and all that can be heard while using is loud static, and with the rode mic it's good when it works, but a lot of the times it'll be hyper sensitive to wind even if the windsock is on, and sometimes no audio can be heard whatsoever with the sock on. Also, sometimes it makes that electronic clicking sound on occasions when nothing is happening to it, and audio can also be absent whether whether windsock is on or not. waste of sixty dollars.

If you are doing a Q&A with your iPhone say on Facebook Live, what is best solution for mic'ing both the person in front of the phone and the guy behind the phone? Would love a lapel mic for both. Any help is appreciated.

Thanks for sharing this video.. I am using iPhone 7+ for video recording mostly, can I use any of these mic’s for voiceovers or do you suggest any other better one from current as this video was shared 4 years back as I see.. I have seen other videos from your channel but little confused on which one I should choose for getting best voiceover on Mac or iPhone through iMovie editing.
