The s10e was not a cheaper model: it was a Mini model (in Apple parlance). It was flagship specs in small form factor. The FEs are clearly a different line that are meant to be cheaper, unlike the s10e.

I’ve been saying for a while now that current sizes are getting too big, at this point I don’t think it should go further. Instead, I want companies to try and hit phone sizes for everyone. Specifically in Apples case I’ve suggested formatting the iPhone lineup to be similar to the iPad and MacBook lines. My ideal lineup if we have to keep the current sizes would be: iPhone & iPhone Plus: 5.9 & 6.5 iPhone Air & Air Plus: 6.1 & 6.7 iPhone Pro & Pro Max: 6.3 & 6.9 iPhone Mini: 5.4 (follows iPad Mini Release cycle)

The only problem I see with the '16e' naming is that the SE line/type of phone typically lasts multiple years before being updated by Apple, so it's gonna be a bit weird in a couple of years name-wise when the iPhone 18/19 whatever is out.

The SE name was used because they’re an enhancement of legacy designs. They’re older editions of the iPhone design with newer, special features. The (seemingly formerly) SE 4 from leaks sounds like it has enough changes and diversions from the iPhone 14 it’s based on to the point where maybe a new name was warranted.

Better chip. For one, you'll be able to play all the AAA game ports locally on your phone. Also, double the RAM. Also, no ginormous, obnoxious camera stove on the back. Instead, you get a smaller, neater-looking single lens.

I'll go on a tangent with the SoC situation here: If it's going to be named with the precious generation's number, it might be indicating that it's going to have the same SoC as iPhone 16. That would mean that Apple is going with Samsung's FE strategy, which is a step in the opposite direction with what they did with iPhone 16's last year (same generation SoC as Pros) and the same thing they did in the year before (iPhone 15's having SoCs one generation behind the 15 Pros). All of it is confusing but I do understand that Apple found the balance in keeping regular iPhones with the current year's technology and making iPhone E a spiritual successor of iPhone Mini by giving it the old processors to it, like what they do with iPad Mini. So, why not call it iPhone Mini again? They don't want to associate it with a series they killed a few years ago? Idk. At this rate, Apple is going to have problems with their device families like Samsung did years ago. Their tablet family is extensive, too. There are rumors where a baseline MacBook with no "Air" or "Pro" moniker is going to arrive in the next year. The whole device lineup is starting to seem like a McDonald's Menu. 1:35 why Samsung is using Fan Edition for devices that's cheaper than the normal models? It doesn't have much to do with S10 E, it started with Note 7 FE, a device fans wanted but it's served alongside the newer models, thus it's the older flagship launching again with cheaper prices. Then Samsung started to use it with revised models of its previous flagships. That's my point, if Apple is not making an iPhone 17 SE and naming it iPhone 16 E instead, they must be trying to tap into the second-hand market like Samsung is doing. I think Samsung and Apple are trying to steal back some attention from the second-hand deals. Wanna buy the old flagship from someone or want to buy it straight from Samsung and Apple? So as flagships are kept for longer periods of time, the sales shouldn't diminish as much. Another side effect is second-hand market getting inflated because older flagships should still worth more than these new entry-level flagship devices in the sellers' eyes. That's what I think about the future of smartphone market. Apple and Samsung are receding to higher tears, surrendering the entry level-smartphone market to Chinese OEMs while Chinese OEMs are aware of that and delivering formidable alternatives to the subpar entry-level flagship offerings coming from Apple and Samsung in the same price range. The ecosystem argument is their last stance. Idk what else those two behemots can do

the iPhone Air is probably just what the SE is going to be. Like how the MacBook Air from 2010 onwards was basically a MacBook SE to the MacBook Pro and the MacBook 12". So they'll make the iPhone Air market it with their new 5G modem to sound cooler and stuff while putting in an A18 to match with the current gen iPhone while sacrificing on battery life, cameras, that type of thing. Maybe the normal iPhone will be pushed out of the market with just the iPhone Air and the iPhone Pro like how they did it with the MacBook. It makes sense

I think its probably going to be still iphone se 4 but it will "replace" the base iphone model (ie the iphone 17). Quotations over replace because I dont think there will be an SE or SEs ( SE and SE plus) every year. Then later in the year they will release the iphone 17 pros and the iphone 17 "air". So between the SEs and the air, those people that would have brought the base iphone 17s would be covered. The iphone air will probably will every year but it would only be one screen size. How certain are we of the A18 chip? I would assume apple will put the M5 chips into the iphone given that they are able and already doing so with the m4 chips in ipads which are very much identical to ios unless physically the m chips are too large for iphones.

Samsung FE is very popular in india. In Apple SE or 16e we will get 3200 mah, outdated hardware, slow charging, single camera, no charger, etc. Most of 2020 SE or 2022SE users are saying battery is not good or some people already replaced so I think apple should have to consider many points before fixing its price.

Here in Europe the SE has always been EXPENSIVE because we get taxed 20%. So this coming in more expensive will make it the price of the current 14, a phone with 2 cameras. I suppose Apple are hoping usb c, Dynamic Island and A18 will be enough to compensate for the loss of an extra camera. It won’t do ultra wide but probably will do zoom and macro.

Most folks have adapted to larger phones, since going with a Pro Max many years ago I could never see going back. The Pro size is perfect as well, with everything our phones can do now you want the maximum comfortable screen you can get and the Pro screen size is just that.
