REWA LAB has conducted a deeper teardown on iPhone X OLED screen Recently. After separation, you will find the differences between iPhone X display and the screens of previous iPhone models.
1. iPhone X display comes with different driver IC bonding technique. iPhone X applies COF, while previous iPhone applies COG.
2. iPhone X screen digitizer has its 3D touch module adhered behind OLED backplate.

Seperating the glass and frame/bezel and laminating the glass part is easy. But laminating/sticking the frame/bezel is complex. There are many clips on the frame. Need time to figure out what can be done. Main challenge is frame laminating. @REWA Technology

It is supposed to be folded at the bottom to get that edge to edge look, not the top. I could not tell if it was folded or not, there is too much going on the bottom to tell exactly. If it is folded, it might be just a tab bit just to make it that edge to edge look. They should have investigated this claim. I thought the OLED panel was not cutoff at the top, always thought it was just the camera the notch made it seem like this.

Is there anything on the display panel that is married to the motherboard? I took two working displays apart from two iPhone X, I did a straight swap and when I tried the Face ID it didn’t work on either phone. When I swapped the screens back the Face ID worked again.

Ed Saucin I did the test again recently also with a hard reset but still did not work. What did work was keeping the original ear speaker/ambient light flex cable so that cable is married to the board somehow. Strange apple would do that...

If you keep original proximity sensors and earpiece matching to the motherboard, only then ur face id will work with another display... Proximity sensor flex is unique to each motherboard

Bromar actually no, its not just display, the software programming behind which makes the display to work, for Lcd panel the light is being emitted, while oled panels make the colors from RGB led panels by software programming.

The display sheet ITSELF does not fold, it's the BONDED area of the connectors that do. It would literally be easier to bend that oled screen backwards, than to flex those cables so close to the bonding. But the small radius of the bend on the oled sheet might end up making problems for it. But apple never foled the display sheet itself behind itself. That would literally be throwing money developping a few mm of screens you'd never see and would have to fix with software so that the UI end where the bezzel starts, and not where the dispkay sheet ends. It would literally be throwing money away. I can GUARANTEE that apple calculated how much money those few more mm of screen would cost them tk developp compared the bent connectors solution, and saw that it would save them more money developping a different connector for that screen than making a hidden display part. Also, the corners being rounded would make this even harder. The bottom of the display would end in a V shape to accomodate for the curved corners and the bending. The reason why it was so expensive, was because they saw an opportinity to increase the money they'd make on phones, and create a new premium market. Now we have 1700$ iphones and people don't batt an eye. That's why they priced it at 1000$. But curving a display did not make it more expensive. We had tons of curved displays backthen, and they all were on phones that were 300$ cheaper than that, reguardless if they were curved on the sides, or curved at a 180° angle- it's an oled. It BENDS. That had nothing to do with the pricing, that reason was a scapegoat. They already made so much money from iphones compared to the manufacturing cost. The manufacturing cost might've increased, but I can guarantee that their profit margin on those phones doubled when they move it up to 1000$.

3D touch is just a software thing, right ? Even on Android you can download 3D touch apps which show you how much pressure you apply. The bigger the surface of you finger that touches the screen is the more pressure you're applying. Am I wrong about this ?

Be careful with freezing the iPhone x OLED panel , the separation will start between touch panel and the OLED panel! Use cutting wire only to separate the glass, ,However you can successfully remove the bezel without damaging the cable and panel using freezer -130' Celsius 30 sec.

LCD (Liquid Crystal Display) consists of a layer with liquid crystals that can block or let light pass thru. Behind it is a white LED backlight. OLED (Organic LED) consists of organic LEDs that individually light up and therefore don't need a backlight. As seen in the video, refurbishing them will be very difficult but possible I think.
