The 3d animation makes it looks so easy. Imagine if the part of the actual surgery that involves cutting parts of the skull is as easy as cutting a birthday cake.
@Fireclaws10

It kind of is. The cutting is the easy bit, there are tons of plates and guides there to facilitate it. The setup to that point and wound closure after is the hard bit

@OceanSwimmer

I am a retired OR RN; for an elective procedure, I think 8 hours is going to be the max time under anesthesia. In other words, these procedures are done in steps. One procedure at a time. (I haven't assisted with this particular type of surgery) I HAVE assisted with many, many cosmetic and dental procedures, sinus surgery, eye and neurosurgery. A full face and neck lift, with upper and lower eyelid lifts takes almost 8 hours. Add a forehead lift, it WILL take 8 hours. The amount of stress and physical trauma (surgery is PLANNED trauma) to the body is significant! When someone is injured extensively, with multiple injuries, a plan is decided. Some things can be temporarily stabilized, so critical repairs and support can be done right away. Then they go back to surgery for the next steps. Tolerating all of that is going to depend on the overall health and age of the patient. Everyone is different. People respond differently to stress on the body. I would never, ever, advocate for these procedures. Who "you" are is NOT your body. Unless you're ill or 'broken' your physical body does everything possible to give you the best life: be good to your body. Treat it well --- with a healthy diet and lifestyle. Take care of your teeth and feet. Wear your seatbelt. Have your annual checkups. Listen to what you learn about your health from your provider, and ask questions if you don't understand. Consult with your doc or nutritionist provider to plan what vitamin and mineral supplements will nourish you best. Don't smoke anything. Drink alcohol sparingly. The benefits will really come into play when you're 70. All the care you've given your body will payoff then, in spades. I'm 70 and did that. When I look at others my age, I can really tell who has done preventive maintenance --- it shows. Your body is your willing servant, and should be treated with respect and care. Don't damage it, and for God's sake, don't punish it with this unnecessary abuse! Trust me, this type of surgery is brutal, bloody, VERY painful, and good results are NOT guaranteed!!! Look at all the critical structures adjacent to the work being done: the sinuses, brain, eyes, teeth, tongue, and jaws....use your imagination and think what could happen if just ONE of those places gets infected, bleeds after the surgery, has nerve damage...or later in life you take a fall and smack your jaw or forehead! If any of those places on your head has problems, it could mean another surgery. ----And I don't know if insurance would cover this. My guess is not.

I am a trans woman that had this exact surgery (all of the procedures) at once. Got entire forehead, mandible, chin, cheeks, adam’s apple removal, feminizing nose job and brow lift. I was under anesthesia for 8-10 hours if I am not wrong. The cost was near 6 figures and the recovery was brutal, the amount of swelling and pain was big and the pain killers were my saviors. Could not eat anything strong for 3 weeks and the swelling last good 2 months and final results are until 6 months to 1 year. I can say that this surgery changed my life so much for the best, I don’t feel uncomfortable with how I look and I feel I look like the woman I always aspired to be. I worked super hard for years to achieve this and seeing how brutally hard this surgery and the recovery is, I feel confused on why there would be people that still say that transgender is a choice, because is not. I am super happy with the results and if I was told if I would ever do this surgery again seeing how happy these results made me, I sure would. ❤️

I got all of this plus a breast augmentation, lip lift, rhinoplasty and tracheal shave. Breast augmentation was by far the most pain I felt post op. Most annoying part of recovering from FFs is the swelling. It took nearly a year to go down completely. Mentally it's hard to wait for the finished results when you look worse than before after spending ten thousands of dollars to get ride of your male features. Still worth though

@@selfproclaimedcowboy8587 How is that not a mental illness? like I'm coming from a place of love because I worry about people like you. You should love your body. While you are a boy as gender is in your head (as I'm guessing you are a trans man). I don't believe cutting bits of your body off you dislike as mentally healthy and is just suppressing other deeper issues. I hope you reconsider this permanent change.
@selfproclaimedcowboy8587
@selfproclaimedcowboy8587 Жыл бұрын
@robertk3929 Please don’t take that comment seriously. But anyways, i’ll try to explain for you. Gender dysphoria in itself is not a mental illness, it’s more of an emotion. Of course if left alone it can result in serious mental illness, like depression. But the reason most transgender people want to change their bodies is because of society, not mental illness. We’re treated like something we’re not because of certain body parts, so of course we don’t like those body parts. Not only do those body parts cause us to be treated weirdly, but they also make us feel really different from other people. So I guess that’s the deep meaning behind it, but let’s be honest it’s really not deep. I’m assuming you’re a man as your name is robert, but imagine one day you woke up with female body parts. If we ignore the fact that that’s impossible, you’d probably feel pretty unhappy. When everyone around you is treated like a man for having male body parts and your being treated like a woman for having female body parts despite looking, acting, and dressing like a man, having “self love” isn’t possible. The real question is, why is it that when transgender people have “sex change” operations or hrt for our own well being were considered mentally ill, but when cisgender people have operations simply because they want to make themselves attractive it’s completely fine?

According to everything i heard, it doesn’t necessarily HURT a lot, but it IS extremely uncomfortable for the first week, due to a lot of swelling literally everywhere in your face. After the first week or so, it’s much more bearable, and you make a full recovery in a couple more weeks. Surprising, but the recovery is not THAT bad!
@OceanSwimmer
@OceanSwimmer 2 жыл бұрын
@@blurb8397 --- I don't know where you 'heard' what you wrote, but let me say it's NOT a walk in the park!!! Anyone who says so is lying to you. It's not "minor surgery" no matter what someone tells you: Your head has an extensive blood supply, lots and lots of muscles, miles of nerves, and many critical structures. It means blood loss, aching jaw and forehead, and a major change to your skull strength. Each of those procedures is done one at a time. A nose job is one of the most easily messed up surgeries performed. They didn't show that one because it involves rasps, chisels, and 'peeling back' the skin covering your nose. I've seen patients who were having their SIXTH, SEVENTH, or EIGHTH surgery to correct a bad nose job....from 'some other' doctor. If it isn't broken, don't mess with it. Instead, Google "botched cosmetic surgery" and look at all the people who now have deformed faces and nerve damage. If that doesn't convince you, look up a video of the surgery on a real patient. Therapy is cheaper, and addresses the reasons why you think changing your appearance will solve all your problems.

@@Rising_Pho3nix_23 I get your point. It’s more about massaging the cartilage and stretching the muscles in the face and neck. The word exercise was mainly focused on post op conditions. Recovery was tough...worse was the nose splints he used to keep the nasal passages open until healed, probably 5 days. Was such a relief to get the nose packing out. Would I do it again? In retrospect, yes, but I'm dialling out all the discomfort involved. Memory of the discomfort fades, the results stay. Took about a year for everything to finally settle in. There's a reason why we are fighting so hard for puberty blockers to be available to trans teens. @@SilkRoadMedic Developing a concave chest is also nature's will and in 90% of the cases it won't even have health effects besides sliiighly lower hearth and lung capacity. We still break the ribs of minors to fix this aesthetic inperfection and like all surgeries, this too can result in even life threatening complications. Cancer and near sightedness is nature's will. Crippling migraines and schizophrenia are nature's will, and anti psychotic drugs are hard stuff, yet we even give them to children if it leads to harm reduction. Puberty blockers are completely reversible, can be stopped any time, and you can go on any set of hormonal puberty when you come of age. Going through the wrong puberty can be crippling, trans children become suicidally depressed, or completely detached from all life from the tought of changes that will forever brand them as trans and "other", and to deny them a solution is monstrous. Also these blockers are a compromise, if trans and cis lives were valued equally, we'd let teens go on cross sex hormones immediately, but the thought of a cis kid regretting transition is valued way over the pain and suffering trans people are just expected to go through. Even more, society wants us to either be visibly trans or dead so men wouldn't be so secually confused when they get a boner for us.

@Lunardigitmusic
@Lunardigitmusic 3 жыл бұрын
That’s actually a thing! They don’t use gel though, they use bone paste. It’s called a type 2 forehead reconstruction, and in some cases it’s the better option, but for most cases adding material causes the forehead to look strange and doesn’t help the situation. The procedure in the video is a type 3 reconstruction, and one of the reasons to reduce it is to reduce shadows cast by the brow bone onto the face, which can cause the face to look more masculine. Reducing the forehead also improves rhinoplasty results as it can meet the nose at a more feminine angle. Type 3 is also the best option when it comes to structural integrity as you’re not reducing the thickness of the bone like in Type 1. Type 1 is where they just grind the bone down to make it more flat. 99% of cases it’s not the best option, though, as you can’t take away as much of the bump before getting to the limit of how thin the bone can be. I had a friend who got a type 1 done 5 years ago and her results look great but her upper sinus is now paper thin. Luckily she hasn’t had complications from it, though!

When I was a younger man and I had basic cable TV one of ths few channels I had that still aired shows past 11pm was A&E. It used to show live surgeries. Not sure why. I've seen almost everything cut open and put back together on that channel. LoL

Same, I remember watching either a PBS or A&E special involving a man with a severely malformed face. They showed the operation and everything. All alone in my old house’s living room when I was around 5. Must’ve been 2009. Went to bed traumatized.

You need to talk to trans people in order to understand why they might decide to go through this type of surgeries, it's how they feel, not how other people make them feel, they themselves decide it's the right choice to do the surgery so they feel happy with their bodies, not because of someone else..

I have a feeling many on this comment section don't know what gender dysphoria is. This isn't a merely "cosmetic" procedure guys, the psychological pain trans people go through is no joke and being able to liberate themselves from it can be lifesaving.

Should anorexic people be allowed to get liposuctions, because theyve deluded themselves into thinking theyre fat? Should those with body integrity disorder be allowed to get healthy limbs amputated or paralyzed? You are talking about a mental disorder. You shouldnt try to resolve mental illnesses via cosmetic surgeries like these.

@@bobbsurname3140 body dysmorphia is different from gender dysphoria, because dysmorphias never have a point where they are enough, affirming them leads to the person dying or their health deteoritating. Meanwhile there are butch trans women who want very little to do with femininity and all they need is others to just regard them as female while buying groceries.

Stop trying to liberate yourselves, it's painful to watch. You guys want to liberate yourselves from literally everything, and we can't do that. That's just not how the universe works. You can't just liberate yourself from everything. Why can't you just look INWARD? Have SOME KIND of humility? Have the words humility, shame, honesty just left your vocabulary? Watching so many of my fellow human beings act like this is disgusting and I'm not gonna shut up about it anymore. Someone needs to say something. You're maiming and then killing yourselves at alarming rates. It's awful. The 3rd world slave laborer who built your phone, car, computer, what have you, that you used to post this, would never do this. They would never even think to do this. If you can afford to even think about these kinds of cosmetic surgeries then you are in the top 1% of the world.

Imagine if people were allowed to be themselves regardless of how they were born, these surgeries are usually not only for gender expression, but for safety, stability(jobs are more likely to hire you) and peace of mind, and that's the sad part! Because cis women too are getting these surgeries (specially in asia), makes me wonder, what is a woman or a man supposed to look like? Respect to everyone who gets a surgery like this in order to live in peace and also to those who choose not to

Even more depressing considering that elective plastic surgery was pioneered on racial and enthnic minorities to blend in and avoid hate crimes. Middle eastern Jewish people getting nose reductions to avoid the big nose stereotype, Irish people to hide so called pug nose and be able to get a job in America. Plastic surgery came into existence because society is ugly as hell.

Part of it has to do with self image, a huge part of it has to do with how others perceive you. Like literal safety. Pretty privilege is already a thing, it's proven that good looking people are more likely to have better pay, jobs, positions, better interactions with strangers, for trans people it's even more true.

Honestly amazing how careful and catered this surgery is! I see a lot of ppl commenting on the lack of grotesqueness seen here when the nature of videos like these are to educate a general audience. So adding graphic details is unnessecary and harmful for those it's catered for. That aside it's really neat! I like how they showed the whole setup of what the patient is being put on and the size of the team may be accompanying her surgery
