I think you needed all your strength to turn the steering wheel Richard.

That last quarter of a turn, certainly! It’s actually surprisingly light when on the move as the steering is so low-geared; but you do notice it at anything below about 10mph.

Most turns lock-to-lock of any vehicle I’ve driven, engine at the wrong end…. top conductor though.

Awesome bus Richard, what year would that AEC be? Back in the 1970s we had mostly SB Bedfords (light steering) also we had a few Leyland diesels with Eaton air operated two speed diffs. Some guys loved them and asked for them to be rostered to them, but personally i didn't like the drivers seat, too upright, whereas the Beddys were very comfy and quiet. The Leyland engine was up front. Bob NZ.

We’re holding a 60th birthday event for this vehicle in August; new in 1964. There’s a Bedford OB coach in the museum collection; very comfortable, as you say. In our own group we have a Leyland Leopard 4-speed manual with a twin speed axle (which still works) - underfloor engine of course; we also had a PD3 double decker for a while.
