I’ve installed 10 of these so far for a school district in our area and a lot of the false-positives mentioned are true from my experience. That being said, I’m not a fan of the doom and gloom fear-mongering way IPVM videos are presented. Detection is not perfect yet, not even close but the technology is pretty neat and unfortunately necessary these days. Just having these at all is enough to make kids think twice about bringing weapons on campus. In our area we have shown the system to many other districts who have also purchased them after seeing the demo. This company is growing and the partnership with Motorola/Avigilon makes them even better. I’ve spent a ton of time with their support and they do have a lot to be criticized for but I like seeing more of these installed knowing our area is safer, even if it’s only marginally. Also, Wriggly Field in Chicago uses them. That counts for something.

Marginally safer is not what Evolv is touting

Haha. “The system sucks but it’s better than NOTHING”. That should be their motto.

”Wrongly Field uses them. That counts for something”, really? Even if the system clearly is not working as it’s supposed to?

These things have an insane false alarm rate - if you want to see for yourself, go visit the Lenox Square mall in Atlanta where they have a few of these systems deployed - nearly every person with a handbag or backpack gets dinged, plus most people carrying large amounts of shopping bags. They have two or three mall cops stationed at each system to search your bags when it dings. My interpretation of this is it's just "security theater" designed to give shoppers the false impression that people won't be carrying guns in the mall (there have been six or seven shootings on the property in the last few years).

So are they able to detect items inside of bags or is it just outside of them? And how does that work for the most part? They use ELF Radio Waves which I think differs from standered metal detectors.

Inside bags too cuz outside not enough to violate 4th amendment

If evolve mistakes certain laptops and strollers for guns. No problem. Just stop people with those items and check them individually. Thats much better than checking everyone individually...which you have to now...without evolve.

We tested these systems in our department as well as another competitor's and the Evolv system was definitely better at detecting smallest caliber revolvers. In order for us to get the same type of detection with the other systems we tested, we had to move them closer together, which defeats the purpose of being frictionless and all and caused a bunch of our officers to bump into the towers accidentally, which also affected the sensitivity. I think that when it comes to this technology, it should be buyer be ware, but the Evolv Technology systems are still miles ahead from our findings.

All of this is true not to mention due to so many false detection the line to get into school looks like a amusement park it will detect the most silly stuff like metal rings in binders and note books or metal deodorant and perfume bottles

I work in law enforcement for a major D1 hockey university. First off, judging by a lot of the comments in this thread, I can only assume that these are primarily employees of this company's competition. With that being said, going through IPVM's history, it appears like there's quite the amount of hatred out of you, especially on Twitter. Here's my take. We picked up several of these for my university after a patron at one of our events approached my officers stating that they weren't "wanded" correctly by the security guards. This patron happened to have a concealed carry permit, but was in possession of a firearm on a college campus, which is a felony. The security agency's contract was terminated the very next day and we picked up another temp agency that was utilizing these Evolv scanners. On our very first event using the agency, they brought these Evolv scanners and identified an illegally obtained Glock 19 WITHIN THE FIRST TEN MINUTES of install. I'm thankful that I work for a board of directors who have handed me a blank check, after several conversations with their sales people and my fellow command staff, they were more than straight forward with us about certain "weaknesses"... As a Law Enforcement professional, I don't understand how picking up alerts on certain things like umbrellas, and sunglas cases is considered a bad thing. Only crappy sales people who know nothing about what their product actually does would actually consider this a bad thing, always better to be safe than sorry. Anyone with a minimal amount of law enforcement experience, especially coming from a former EOD tech, will tell you that the metal plates in hard cases are going to trigger based on signature alone. Do you know how many unnatended bags we've x-rayed that had Ray Ban sunglasses that we thought were pipe bombs? Almost 50%!Needless to say, we'll be certainly picking these up for ourselves.

Hatred for IPVM? You are a police officer judging an entity based on hatred from people on Twitter? I would encourage you to judge us on our facts and analysis, not Twitter hatred, as we do so with the police. As for the issues with umbrellas, sun glass cases, etc., Evolv has consistently hid this from the public. We are asking Evolv to be truthful to the public and not create a false sense of security.

It is not a matter of bashing evlv for being a bad solution, it is a matter of being honest about the product you sell. Evlv is probably better than a normal metal detector. but don't lie about your product and says all sorts of crap as a salesman. in this field is not a good place to lie about your products capabilities , it can be fatal and cost lifes.
