I brought a 3M Filtere 12X12X1 pre filter at Walmart ($8) Fits like a glove and is made of very high quality materials.
@mylesr5146 жыл бұрын
Just take a 5 dollar merv 11 furnace filter, measure and cut it to size to fit underneath were the intake is. if cut slightly oversized it will fit tight in by itself. This will catch most of the larger particles and save your prefilter. Merv 11 is not that restrictive and will make no difference in your airflow. The hyperhepa is much more restrictive than the furnace filter. This will save the electricy, noise and purchase cost of a second purifier that you can use elsewhere. Plus the cost of the 2nd purifier filters.

You ever thought about emptying and refilling the v5 filter with bulk activated carbon. Just bought 5lbs for 15 bucks. Looks just like the carbon in the v5 filter. Might try it when my v5 filter needs changing.

One thing I forgot to say. The IqAir Cleanroom was giving off a strong chemical plastic odor at first. It went away after a week or so. I have heard others complaints about off gasing smells from new filters. Any HEPA filter can off-gas if the sealant used to make it does. I had one aftermarket filter that was so bad I could not use it. Some old Honeywell filters do not use any sealant compound between the HEPA pleating and the rim. A little air would by-pass, but at least no smell of any sealants of glues. I think any off gassing from an air purifier is totally un-acceptable.

Rick Rude thanks for the info. I ordered an IQ Air unit should be here at the end of the month. Air quality in CA could be better to say the least. Can you program the unit to turn on at different speeds during different days of the week or is the programable feature just an on off type of thing?

You haven't really calculated how much your electricity bill goes up because of that second unit. The PreMax isn't that expensive, is it worth it? And how do you know how long exactly it prolongs it by? You can't go by the remaining hours anymore on the unit and when do you decide when to replace? Seems to defeat the purpose of having scientific data to determine when's best to replace the filters, which is provided by the company

Always turn on/off the IQAir before and after the turning on the secondary air cleaner. Turning the bottom one on first will blow dust off the bottom IQair per filter.

Very informative video. I am getting about 3 parrots and a good quality air purifier is a requirement for their tiny lungs and for seasonal allergy suffering. I love how you have prolonged the life of the iQ filters. One question about the smell of he new machine or new filters in the IQ and the supporting filter. I am concerned what this smell can do to my birds. I can't afford 2 iQs and stagnate the filter change. This pro plus already comes with a heavy price tag. Any suggestion you can offer?

It makes a huge difference in my asthma and allergies. The air in my place is so clean, but it does not help when I ride my bike in heavy traffic or go camping and get allergies from pollens. I can't control outside air, so I don't worry about it, but I can sure control my inside air. Having said that I do get outside as much as possible in our short Canadian summers!

Night and day difference! Air is so easy to breath! Particle Counts in my one apartment are always less then 2000 parts cu/ft @ .5 microns and large. By contrast the hallway is usually 100,000 to 600,000. Outdoor air is typically 50,000 to 200,000 parts cu/ft

I enjoy your videos because there's not many good videos about air purifiers from people who are very sensitive to dust. I have both those are purifiers myself. I have the latest Honeywell and the filter has a spongy feel which creates a much better seal. Do you keep up with the experiments, .
@rickrude63019 жыл бұрын
+James Swale Thanks, Most air purifier videos are made by company's selling them. I have a severe allergy to dust mite particles, pollens, dog and cat dander. I told my allergist about my air cleaning and showed her my particle counter. She never heard of a particle counter or knew about the benefits of HEPA air cleaning. All doctors know how to do is prescribe drugs. I still need puffers for my Asthma but my air cleaners allow my to take them way less often. I never have asthma attacks while at home, thanks to my overkill air cleaning. It costs lots money to have clean air for sure but so worth it if you have allergies or lung problems. The IQair filters will cost more than the whole unit in a few short years, that's why I thought if a way to extend the life.
@Jamesnebula9 жыл бұрын
I do feel for you with those forest fires creating smog, I find smoke one of the worst things. It's nice to have plenty of air purifiers because it allows you to clean the air so quickly. Having a particle counter is very handy, it just lets you know what's going on. I managed to pick up a big box particle counter, is very good but it sounds like the small jet engine. So is not suitable for constant monitoring. I do rather like your Dylos in this regard for its constant monitoring. I think is a great idea to extend your IQ air prefilter. One thing I've noticed which is different from what you said in one of your videos. And that is about dusting and the importance of cleaning your room. I live in quite a cluttered flat and I don't do much dusting but the gets really clean but obviously it's good to dust as well. At the moment I have an IQair 100 a blue air 402, one of those round Honeywell is that you have. A Russell Hobbs Mountain Breeze, and it is a top end model a few years ago which is now out of production. And also very basic square bionaire which is similar to the Russell Hobbs in power but has a flat panel filter. This is the weird paradox the BlueAir 402 removes only 75% of particles which passed through it, this is an appalling figure, my Honeywell removes about 98%. Now the blueair is a little old and it has genetic replacement filters but I did my best to seal all the gaps as well as putting in prefilter. The thing is although it's very leaky the blueair is actually quite good in its own way. It's very quiet for the amount of air that it moves. At 100 CFM it is the quietest by a considerable amount to all the other air purifiers so it's easy to leave on all the time. And even though it is not very efficient providing there's not too much pollution coming in it brings the particle is down significantly. Just thought I would share my thoughts, I'm toying with the idea of doing some videos myself. Best wishes James

I notice it appears that your taped on pre filter sucks in to the unit when its on ( the frame work is much more visable of the IQ prefilter when the unit is turned on ). That would suggest that it is restricting the air flow to the machine.
@rickrude63018 жыл бұрын
+LORFCASTER Yes, adding any pre filters will restrict air flow. I only use an extra pre filter until its dirty only twice. The pre max would then have less larger dust particles to clog it then if I never use an extra filtrate filter. If using another air cleaner under the IQair like I am in the video, it would not be necessary to use an additional pre filter with the IQair. Simply vacuuming out the bottom of the pre max with a sealed HEPA vacuum cleaner or an outside venting central vac would cut down filter resistance and extend filter life.

See my other videos about how to pull air in from outside and filter it to positive pressurise your home with filtered air. For bad air in China, I would also use large carbon cartridge can filters with certified HEPA or ULPA filters. Cleanrooms use positive pressure to keep contaminated air out.

I picked up a free IQ Air unit via fb Marketplace. I couldn't t believe why anyone would palm of a $ 1000 unit for free , especially in this great condition. I turned on the unit and it said "replace filter". I researched the price for a full set of stupid filters for ..... $ 400.00!!!!! Insane!!! now i knew why this unit was given away for free.😮 What did I do ? I took off the filters ,RINSED them (except the V 5 cell) with my GARDEN HOSE, dried them in the sun and sprayed vinegar in them. The v5 cell ,I vacuumed and wiped off the dust with a vinegar soaked cloth Then I put everything together ,resetted it to NEW FILTER , "YES", in the menu and it works perfectly fine. Save yourself 400 bucks !! Shame on this Swiss manufacturer!!
