I don't think so... To say that it fails on every count is to say that it doesn't function. It does, in every way since 1947 Also, there is no proof to show bias of the EC, hence you can't say that our democracy fails to 'function' You cannot blame 'Indian democracy' (there is no such thing). India is a constitutional republic. You cannot blame the system for the people that are running it. Also, India is a country with 1.2 billion people, and u must understand it is difficult to control all of them
@vahsirartapaham45786 жыл бұрын
Aniruddha it is difficult to control only in a dumb democratic system . We need one party system . Just watch and learn from china . IMO there should be a test before each election concerning the recent events which has happened in the country and in last few years. Only those who pass the test should be allowed to vote . Illiterate people should not be allowed as their vote can be bought for as low as the cost of one time meal .Socrates was also critical of the kind of democracy we follow in india . Only knowledgeable and people having a certain level of understanding of the facts should be allowed to vote

@John Buffalo I am 97 Anglos never ruled India.. There is no such thing as British rule. Before the US bombed the Japanese, the INA was already flexing its muscles and the independence was grabbed in 1943 with military action, not by peaceful means. 21 October 1943 was a declaration of India's independence and it took British a few more years to surrender their control and leave. We believe wrongly that the British gave us freedom. The British archive proves that they were very scared of uprising of Indian army people who were returning from WW2 and were armed, tough, and battle-hardened and Netaji was mobilizing them and was successful in mobilizing them. So the British decided to leave quickly with honour as soon as they could. And Subhash Chandra Bose never referred to Britishers as "rulers". He simply called them foreign occupiers. Subhash Chandra Bose was the man behind India's freedom from the British occupation, not Gandhi. India took back its freedom by violent means, not peaceful means as taught in history books.
@desiputtar894 жыл бұрын
@Mr. Anonymous There's no such thing as British rule. You've misunderstood the history which was not written properly. Subhash Chandra Bose was the actual person responsible for India's freedom from British occupation, not rule because there was none to begin with. Look into the archives. Nowhere it is mentioned that the British ruled. They were simply foreign strangers like Subhash Chandra ji said and that these foreign strangers must be expelled from Indian soil. Subhash ji was determined in his enndeavour and it paid off.

Not surprising because this land was once a Hindu kingdom and the natives here although now largely Muslims, still retain to a degree some of the influence left behind by ancient Indian traders. You can see this influence in the weddings of the Malays for example. So, it's not surprising when they are also ardent fans of bollywood. And in the political arena, our ministers liked to be praised and be seated on opulent large chairs while the citizens grassroots sat on plastic chairs. Democracy is good...only when 'qualified citizens' have right to vote. The greatest person with integrity, wisdom, and courage will be killed by ignorant mob like what happened to Socrates. Citizens must have basic ability of critical thinking, basic understanding of public issues, and most importantly, high moral integrity. Citizens shall not bribe, or take bribe in any form. Under these conditions, democracy might work for the people. Unfortunately cunning Englishmen who invented and exporting their flawed ideology don't want second world countries to know that. Look at Singapore, look at China, they both practice a certain degree of authoritarianism, but their people thanked the government.

2. Bose was sidelined long ago by these manipulators. I think it's time Indians broke a few popular myths such as "Gandhi led India to freedom". He did not. The British left India not because they became followers of Gandhi's Non-violent philosophy overnight. Bose had effectively undermined their loyalty during the WW2 and converted them from mercenaries into firebrand patriots.

Democracy,in it's truest sense, means civic participation. As described the real inventors,the Athenians, civilians attended the parliamentary sessions besides periodic voting. Although this is practically not feasible at this stage,we, the citizens of India,have entirely discarded from our civic responsibility to follow,support,criticize or oppose the government. Instead we have begun to choose and favor government which aligns more with our identity in terms of language,religion etc etc. We have knowledge that covers a vast ground on many subjects. But unfortunately, that knowledge is merely acquired by casual browsing which makes it extremely shallow. Politics and economics are two spheres which control a nation's progress and these must be followed in detail to fill up that void we created in our responsibility as citizens. Personally, I believe any form of govt can be good or bad. Monarchy has tyranny at it's evil end. Democracy can end up in mobocracy. It is in the hands of the citizens to direct the govt and restrain it from abusing it's power.
@ajeetalbert916 жыл бұрын
+Darkhorse "Decision concerning people will be taken directly by people and politics has nothing to do with it". As beautiful as it sounds, it is impractical to such an extent that it may happen only in some Utopian land. But, I totally agree that it is the democracy defined in it's truest form. The simple fact is that it's not present in India right now. I really wish to witness your dream of democracy in India but I believe it won't come to India in the next decades. The only logical problem which I see is the massive population. Even if we manage to neutralize difference of financial status,language,religion or caste, the mere size of our population will not allow the rule done by people itself.By either versions of us, India isn't really democratic as most Indians claim to be. Secondly, when Athens created a governance and named it to be democracy, then it is democracy in it's original sense. To be precise,we can say that democracy itself is the same cock and bull shit. What we have in India can be a modified version of the real democracy which appears to be more feasible with elected representatives but the original meaning where everyone with civic and legal rights must participate is totally lost. Technically, when the people cannot or do not participate, we shouldn't use the term democracy. Maybe we can formulate a new term and God only knows whether it's good or bad. And finally, the old system of Samitis where we categorized and efficiently worked based on the nature of work we do led to the development of caste system. It's kinda ironic to say that British came in and divided a hundred year old system into different castes. We did it to ourselves. To be correct, samiti system was indeed efficient in a small village or a closed system. We did that mistake by trying to apply it for large empires. At this point, instead of creating a new system, we applied samiti system to the mass group which caste system to manage the mass. Moreoever, these kinda old system cannot be applied to present line of work where we have everything from nanotechnology to robotics to Mars Orbiter Mission. With this extremely diverse field of works, it's pointless to spend money or energy to bring back the old samiti system.

I believe that democracy is not the actual problem of India even dictatorship could have done no good to it the flaw is not in our law but is in enforcement of law every time during enforcement of the law people try to earn money from it and if they can not earn then they are not interested in it. Every politician praises his good deeds but never accepts the nuisance created by them. Being part of the Indian youth I believe it's our responsibility to reform our government in such a manner so that we can actually get out of this black hole of crime and help in making India a developed country than developing.
