That Thompson has seen a very long life as it was one of the very first brought into Ireland by the IRA in 1921/22.

The Thompson was a high quality weapon for the time. Well maintained, it would last for years. The only issue would be sourcing ammo.

There was a gun shop near my neighborhood here in America that got caught shipping guns to the IRA back in the early 80's. I believe it was called "Harford Road Guns" in Baltimore Maryland.
