iRacing Buyer's Guide 2023 | How to keep costs down!

The thing I’ve noticed with iRacing, is it gets much better value for money once you’re in it for the long-term. Yes, content is expensive. But I’ve found that I spend less and less these days. Over the past 2 years, I’ve bought 6 cars and probably 10-12 tracks. As a combined sum, that’s quite expensive. But it’s been stretched out over 24 months… and now, I’m in the position where I don’t NEED to buy any new content. Each season that gets announced, the content I own means I’ve always got 2-3 race options each week (not including the base content, which creates even more choice) 👍

Yeah exactly. After 2 years i bought Barcelona and if the calender stays like it is in the forums i can run the whole ess series. 1 track for 1 Season is a good deal... but then i wanted to get the bulk discount and added 2 more cars... still worth it :D

Of course, in a long run it's not that expensive, even monthly. Thing is, the first year is usually the most expensive, but it's still expensive nonetheless

This is true. Once you've spent $1000 on content there is far less content you need to buy.

Tbh I started playing 4 days ago on a g29, it's a lot of fun. I've only just got out of rookie but I keep playing it as I really enjoy the mazda! Will stick with that until I can get faster

biggest tip you'll ever get if you're happy to race a couple of endurance races every other weekend - Nurburgring24 and NEC which starts next season. you only need 3 pieces of content - the nurburgring gp track + nordschleife track + one of the cars that you can use there, and the subscription. big or nurburgring fans

Member of the 40 piece club so apart from occasional new tracks, it costs £7.08 a month (Black Friday one year sub). But I’d get tracks over cars anytime. Tracks will last you many years, cars come, cars go.

You do realize if you go clubbing one night, buy drinks, entry, uber - it cost as easily as a one yr subscription or more. One night clubbing....or one trip to the brothel a year.. .. I was against the pay wall for ever but I caved in and don't regret it one bit

@@thefourfourfour9512 1. clubbing would never cost me 100 euros, i blieved i che k yesterday and that was the price of 1 year subscription 2. I dont drink, and I very ocassionally go out at night. If I ever spend money, its on the subway or an entrance for some place and its rare for me to have to spend money. 3. Im student still, undergraduate. What you said totally makes sense to me. I hate people that complain they dont have money but continuously waste it on drinks, smoking and other shit of the sort

Thanks a lot for this video! I followed your advice of not taking unnecessary risks and I got out of rookie in just 2 races haha. Oh man, I had high expectations for the game, and it surpassed them. The format suits me so well, when I have the time, I can just register for a race or two which is great. And what a luxury is to not get T-boned in the first corner haha. I've done 5 races so far and finished on the podium in all of them, in every race I have started second and almost always overtook the pole sitter in the first corner but since my third race (we crashed on the straight xd, still managed to come back tho) I don't fight them anymore, if they try to pass me, I don't defend. So yeh, I just wanted to share my experience so far with the mazda mx-5, it has been way better than I expected it to be. I can't wait to try the new car, it seems decent for a free car, maybe I should spend my 55 $ only on tracks or get a gt4 car or f4 but it's more expensive, I don't know which one to get first, what are your thoughts?

Keep trying to go back to iracing but it’s so far from other sims these days, in both look and feel. Some cars like the F4 are stand out but overall it’s not worth the money compared to others, i will still keep it but it’s essentially an expensive digital paperweight right now

And to really save money, only buy 1 content a week or per fortnight, do 1 car one week or fortnight, then buy a track for the next week or fortnight and continue doing that until you are satisfied with the content you have

I share your disappointment regarding lack of participation in the Stock Car Brazil series. I like the way the cars handle. I have seen it on TV IRL, and the racing is intense (several former F1 drivers in that series). Too bad.

great video! i'd reccmmend being cautious with bulk discounts. it's fine if you plan out a season and know exactly what you need. I however fell in the trap a couple of times and bought cars/tracks I never used just to get the discount. on the other hand i spent so much on my first that I very rarely buy anything recently. i recommend looking for a nice D or C class series and focus fully on that.

Quite difficult to justify a game where the monthly subscription is worth 8 entree meals, and I still have to pay much more for cars and tracks. I guess I'll need a remote job that's paid in USD first.

It would ultimately help their bottom line if iRacing would charge more for the cars and make the tracks -- not free because we are already paying a subscription but -- part of the subscription. I don't want to buy every track they have -- and repurchase tracks I already own when they are updated -- and then learn to race Mustangs on international tracks that there's no chance I'll ever visit. It's offensive and I am surely going to let my subscription lapse again once I'm tired of getting punted back to Miatas when I and everyone else bails on a series that went to a paid track no one running the series cares about. Even if I was willing to buy the tracks, and you can be damn sure the series is going to visit every plausible track on a long enough timeline, it wouldn't matter because no one else will, and you'll be in a "field" of 2 or 3 cars. This is bad decision making. It's a provably bad call to make your subscription service dramatically less fun in hopes of squeezing some extra dollars from a minority willing to pay extra. That minority won't stick around long enough to buy many tracks when they pay and there's no one to race.

They say "You wote with your money", and based on this I really think that absolutely no one should spend a penny on a sim that charges you for the content and you need to pay prescription to use it. Sorry for being that negative but I really think that this is the kind of bulls...t that we as a community should not swallow because it makes them and also others comfortable doing it. And influencers/content creators are even more guilty in this then us regular blokes. So, if a new sim comes out in the future with some similar scam payment trap, You will realize that the best advise you should have been giving us was to not give money to robbers! I do fear that iRacing will be or already is the Tesla and Apple of simracing, giving examples for other developers how to milk more money out of us and we will wake up paying monthly subscription for using the climate control.

It's actually great because it ensures people behave well in races. Getting banned from an account that you invested hundreds of dollars into is a scary deterrent. It filters out raging kids pretty well, but it's not that expensive for adults who spends a few thousand on sim rigs anyway.
