Remember younger people make up the majority of the population in Iran. So , this means people who are idealistic- who feel injustices DO NOT have to be the norm , people who are more likely to QUESTION authority and these young people were not part of the original revolution. They see Western freedoms(through the use of social media) , liberal ideals and the opportunities that democracy allows as attractive and obtainable. But the current government holds the power- the military , the control of information , the money. If opposition forces can unite and project their numbers(such as using their numbers and power to turn the elites , the hardliners) -or gain the sympathy of the military- they have a chance. If they cant do this , these protests however noble , will either be put down again , or turn into an insurgency.

Yeah, you'd better bet the CIA is right there, having capabilities well beyond what we know. And very active right now. But really, I think we need outside military to aggressively finish off this regime, if the CIA doesn't. If you know your history, we toppled the Iranian regime once before, and installed the Shah. And, may I express gratitude for being American, having free speech. Iranians cannot contribute to these posts, even if they have internet access.

These young Iranian women and men are an unstoppable force. Many revolutions have been won with less courage, tenacity, vision, wit, willpower and youthful spirit than this one, it's not even a fair match, the regime stands no chance. There's no question that Iran is on course to a golden era of happiness and prosperity, and it will be because of the courage of women, it's clear to see and it's a beautiful sight. I'm going to sleep now good night.

As much as I despise the Iranian regime, I don't see it collapsing. Much like Afghanistan, these protests aren't extending to the rural portions of the country. That is where much of the population and power bases are. Cities like Kabul or Tehran won't hurt the regime as much as the rural backbone of the country. As long as that doesn't change, I don't see this regime collapsing. I hate it.
@marmary55552 жыл бұрын
First of all, this is a deep societal uprising that has been boiling since 1979. Iran, unlike war torn Afghanistan, has a highly educated and secular population and there are OTHER major cities in Iran with important universities, in Ispahan, Babol, Kerman, Bandar Abbas, Ahvaz, Tabriz, Mahshad and so on.... There is a rural population in Iran, but that's absolutely no match to that in land locked Afghanistan. Tehran alone has a total population of 15 million in the metropolitan area. Kabul has only 4.6 million. So that's a bad comparison
@antoinemilien68642 жыл бұрын
@@marmary5555 I think you have completely missed my point. For one, Iran had the Green Revolution barely 15 years ago, and didn't lead to a collapse. We shouldn't be counting on a downfall every single time we have major protests. We have this same marathon every time we see major protests in Cuba, Venezuela, etc. And while Iran has multiple cities compared to Afghanistan, much of the population and government support lies in the countryside. Which your point barely addresses at all. So, my comparison still stands. In addition, people make the mistake of thinking urban centers hold the power when the rural and population outside those centers hold power. By your very logic, Putin would be out of power given the protests we've seen over the years in Moscow, St. Petersburg, etc.

From what I'm gathering from many independent sources, the amount of people protesting in Iranian streets is few in comparison to the population and being done by young people. I wouldn't like to live under Iranian laws, but I'm not Iranian nor am I a policeman for the world like the West pretends it is. The best way to influence others is through example and solving basic problems, not by force or cajoling. I also dislike how government and corporate media manufactures consent around the world. I'm not an Anarchist, but who is free to do what ever they want that negatively affects others without facing some kind of retribution?

It's another interesting time to be alive. In the late 70s hostages were taken at the US embassy in Tehran. Anyone who remembers that time can remember the students of that time protesting for a return to conservative Islam society. Before 1979 Iranian women has freedoms that included wearing western clothes and modern hairstyles. Now, forty years later, a new generation of students (and adults,) are protesting for the return of these freedoms. Good luck to everyone in Iran. Maybe I'll be alive in forty years to see what happens then.🙂

19:58 Now that they're seen that a single US President can end a treaty on a whim, Iran has decided that their only sure safety is to go the way of North Korea and Israel and build nuclear weapons. The next treaty should be put into law by the US Congress so that another Trump (or Trump himself) can't destroy carefully crafted US foreign policy and treaties on a whim!
@zlauriault2 жыл бұрын
North Korea and Israel are dramatically different regimes. Israel is a democracy. North Korea is not. That's the first glaring distinction that makes a comparison absurd. Another thing that makes it absurd is that Israel is Iran's neighbor and has a vested interest in Iranian freedom both politically and culturally, but North Korea does not and is actually the opposite, allying itself with Russia and Iran. Another glaring difference is that Israel doesn't threaten a nuclear disaster or any with tyrannical countries. North Korea does both. There are many differences. As for a President ending treaties, let's consider the one this current US President has been promoting which is a nuclear deal with Iran - an absolutely stood thing to do. You can't make deals with liars and terrorists. The world is finally coming to understand what countries free of Russian domination have been warning about for decades, and Western press and governments ignored them, even depicting then as backwards or following other disinformation influences from the Putin regime. Everyone is learning the hard way. Iran and the entire region of Arab lands was designated and ruled by a tribal structure. Western government style was imposed by then dissecting tribal lines and causing infighting all the time, which is why the only area that works well is the UAE, with native tribal structure. There is so much Westerners don't understand about "Middle East" civic life, culture, and capacity.

@@zlauriault The person who has nothing to say often says the most. If you were at all intelligent or educated on the subject (instead of simply being the obvious reactionary political conservative you are), you would have realized that I was talking about nuclear weapons strictly as a means of assuring national defense, which has absolutely NOTHING to do with the value system subject YOU are droning on about. You are also entirely ignorant of how the IAEA monitored the anti-nuclear weapon agreement. They had monitors in Iran and there was zero evidence of any Iranian work on nukes. But then Trump destroyed the agreement and now they're working on getting nukes and the Iranian govt has become even MORE conservative! I hope you're happy now!

The one that allows them to continue to threaten and commit terrorists acts on US soil. oh oh and the one that includes the continuation of building nuclear power.
