Iran is reportedly trying to source uranium from West Africa, signaling a further expansion of its nuclear program. "There have been rumors that Iran is actively seeking mining licenses in Niger,” West African geopolitical analyst Dr. Olayinka Ajala said. Iran is aiming to harvest hundreds of tonnes of uranium a year, according to an outlet named National Security News. This comes after Iran and Niger cemented a secret ‘yellow cake’ uranium deal in late April for the delivery of 300 tons of uranium. In exchange, Iran would provide drones and surface to air missiles to Niger. This has raised alarm among Western nations that Tehran plans to acquire larger stocks of uranium to further its nuclear weapons programme. Watch the video to find out more.
