However, let’s not forget that he was an excellent stickler at his prime winning the golden boot twice in the Russian premier league and the MVP for one of those years! Yes he is struggling right now, but the dude is not exactly garbage as you described him either! You just don’t attract clubs like Bayern Leverkusen, and FC Roma if you’re not talented, especially with a coach like Jose Mourinho !

You can sugar coat things as much as you like, but the fact remains that even in his prime, he would not have been able to hack it against quality teams. Putting five past Hong Kong or Syria is not the same as putting one past France. If that is your benchmark, then he is a super striker. Secondly, I watched him in 2018 and 2022 WCs and I really really could not understand why he was given a starting place in the team. For an international striker, he is nowhere as good as Son (S. Korea) or Asano (Japan). As much as I think Taremi is not as good an international player as people make him out to be, he is better than Azmoun. Btw, it’s AS Roma not FC Roma. Roma will probably use him in Coppa Italia games, where they tend to play their subs or youth team or loanee players.

Both teams lack speed, skills, and fitness in today's modern football. Overall, Iran is obviously a better team with a better history in Asian football by far. Plus the fact that Iran has a few professionals playing in Europe for decent teams. Especially Taremi at Porto.
