After hours and hours of a lot of experimenting and NO information anywhere on how to actually do this, I'm on the road to figuring out how to bind a Taranis QX7 with an IRX4+ TX module in the back to a UMX Timber park flyer. I thought I should share because this is going to matter to anyone with this radio wanting to bind to this Spectrum protocol. The default channel setup in the Taranis is standard TAER but in the DSM protocol it is AETR. So, I selected "0" on the yellow knob for serial operation on the IRX4+. In the Taranis Radio Setup I turned off the internal transmitter (of course) and selected the external transmitter, Multi DSM, Subtype X 22ms, CH1-7, RxNum 07. I did NOT change the Taranis INPUTS from standard TAER, but I added channel 5 (gear/hopefully AX3S/SAFE) and 6 (for flaps). In the the MIXER Channel 5 will eventually be SAFE/AS3X. I changed Channel 1 to Ail, channel 2 to Elev, channel 3 to Thr, channel 4 to Rud and added channel 5 and 6. In channel 6 (flaps) the source is Flp, I selected switch SB, and Multiplex is set to "Add". I could have selected any switch, but I want to use my left hand AND I'm reserving SF for another function. Also, in the Taranis outputs I changed channel 1 to Ail, channel 2 to Elev, channel 3 to Elev, and channel 4 to Rud. No Curves, no logical switches (yet), no special functions (yet). Now I have all four flight controls plus full flaps on with SB but I'm still trying to figure out how to get SAFE and AS3X. To bind, turn on the transmitter and connect the plane battery. You don't need to use the bind function in the Taranis model setup menu. If I figure out the rest I'll post back. Hope this helps someone else get started on this project. Maybe we can finish it up together?

You can select/Reflash OpenTx with AETR default config... as well. And in the settings you can also select the channel mapping as well....

Yes it's not obvious at beginning.... More complex IMHO than DeviationTX.

Correction: To bind, hold the bind button on the IRX4+ while powering on the transmitter. The red light on the IRX4+ will blink. Now power on the plane, and whammo, you're bound.

I done the range check the plane was fine I went way out of sight of the plane, and still had a signal. It was like I said the Flysky reciever reads the RSSI as RSSI-. So I just disabled the RSSI alarm, and created a RSSI- alarm it is working great. So if you ever bind to the Flysky AFHDS 2A protocol on a Taranis Qx7s with this muti module and want RSSI telemetry this is how I got it to work. Just thought people should know.

Après des heures de déboire j'ai finalement eu l'idée de consulter le dépanneur en chef, et effectivement grâce à toi j'ai enfin pû mettre à jour ma QX7 (qui à ce jour est toujours livrée avec une version 2.2.0 antérieure à la version officielle.) Par contre sous la version 2.2.3 de janvier 2019 l'option "flash bootloader" semble avoir disparu. Pas grave j'espère..

The module needs 3.3V but the Taranis X9D plus has 6V and Vbat pins. Is it safe to put it in? It seems like it has a resistor in the input pin, right?

I wonder if this will work with my old Taranis 9D+ which is running OpenTX v2.0.9 ? I never bothered to upgrade FW because I don't want to have to redo all the models. This looks like it will work with older FW. Thanks for the review. Cheers.

I hope somebody can help me. I got a irx4+ and it used to work ok. I used it with h36 before. now i have a e010c whoop and when i try to bind using mjxq e010, the screen says "bind' (with beep) once then stops. tiny whoop is still fast blinking. I really don't understand why this is happening.

Have you had success with binding Devo receivers to this? I can't get mine to automatically bind after restarting the transmitter, I always need to manually re-bind. Other protocols are A-OK. I've already flashed the latest firmware on.

I don't understand because the green light of IRX4+ lights up almost immediately even though I only pressed the small bind button of the IRX4+ for a few seconds while I turn on the Taranis. what is the best way to bind UR65?

if I am not wrong the best way is to use a CLI command to bind your builtin DSM receiver. with such command : "set spektrum_sat_bind = 9 save ". Then return to sat bind = 0 and save when bound

I bought the taranis Qx7s and can't seem to flash firmware because it says the firmware isn't compatible. So it seems I need the accommodating boot loader you spoke of could you put a link to where I can find it?

In practice it's the same .bin file but you use it as new bootloader. I show in the video how to proceed.

However I got the ppm mode to work thanks to you, but I noticed the fail safe disappears, and every time I go to another model, and back I have to rebind does this happen to you in ppm mode?

Those aren't protocols...they are model/brand names. Access, AFHDS, DSM2, DSMX, TBS, FASST ...these are the most common protocols

In this video your TX power on with a Short Press of the power button, and after you flashed the firmware you have to Long Press the power button to turn on/off the radio. Is that configurable or the new firmware is just this way LP? Thanks.

With the original version it was also a long press to turn off. I didn't look into the hundreds of options but should be possible to do a fast turn off. In the worst case, I think the openTX can be recombiled with such behaviour.

it's more in betaflight to do this job. Assign a range of your switch to acro. Acro is default one so when nothing (no angle, no horizon) is selected

I got the IRX4+ to bind my Taranis QX7 with my UMX Timber. I have tried everything I know of and I cannot get a bind with controls that make sense. I fly mode 2 but when the plane binds all the control surfaces are crazy. No throttle, elevator on throttle stock, ailerons are okay but backwards, and the rudder is on elevator but backwards, switches and variable pots do nothing. I'm beginning to think I wasted my money!

The Timber looks for DSMX. One approach I found on KZbin was to set the module on dial setting 8 (DSMX/DSMX-22) and select PPM on the transmitter. Thats how I got where I am now. It binds but with crazy airplane controls I can't change on the transmitter. Another suggested approach I found was to select zero on the module and select Multi mode on the transmitter and use DSM2/LP45, which did not bind, so I tried DSM2/DSM2, again no bind. Lastly I tried DSM2/DSMX, which didn't bind either. So, the closest I've gotten is setting 8 on the module and PPM on the transmitter, which does bind but with crazy controls on the plane I can't correct in the transmitter.. It would be great if I could contact Irange to ask if they could help but there is no way I can find to contact them. It would also be nice if the instructions wee complete. Do they assume we are RF engineers and already know what to do?

Well I wrote the firmware to my radio, however I wouldn't let me reflash the boot loader the prompt wasn't there. Tried it twice still wouldn't work. I don't now what I did wrong I copied the SD card contents, and the open TX to the SD card like you said. I do have the muti option on the radio now, and everything seems to work except I have a real low signal and RSSI is critical. You think it's something I done wrong, or a bad module?

My signal is just fine in PPM mode I have flown the plane about eight times without any issue. It's just in PPM mode the telemetry isn't there. You think that the previous SD card contents I put on the SD card could be the reason the boot loader prompt isn't coming up? I appreciate all your help in this.

Yah it has a RSSI reading, but I was just looking closely at it on the Flysky transmitter, and it reads it in negative RSSI- where the Taranis reads it in regular. When you assign logics I see a RSSI-, RSSI, and a RSSI+, but I don't see how to change it in the telemetry. I think I will do a range check on the plane tomorrow and see if I'm just getting a false warning. if so I guess I could just turn off said warning.

I would suggest people not purchase this from banggood. I purchased one for my taranis qx7 because the concept is fantastic. Unfortunately like many others, it has constant and random dropouts. I contacted banggood and they just replied that it was not covered by warranty. I attempted to contact I range multiple times but they will not reply. Finally I ended up going to buy an orange module

SeBy DocKy I had it bound to my Spektrum dsmx receiver. Binding occurred fine and range test was fine but then it would drop out and failsafe intermittently

SeBy DocKy I have not tried to flash it yet because as you said, it is not easy. Plus I would have to put more money into the pieces just to try flashing. It would be nice if banggood or iRangeX had stood by their product and offered to help but they have not.
